When passing through over a year ago my wife and I spotted that they sold«Miner’s Pasties» — hailing as we do from the UK we were excited that perhaps these were akin to Cornish pasties. Unfortunately at this time they were just shutting up shop, but we manage to ask about this and yes, indeed they are. If you’ve ever ridden the Georgetown Loop train you might have heard them mention how the drystone walling you see was put together by Cornishmen who moved to the area… Cornwall having plenty of mining experience courtesy of its tin mines. Anyway, I digress… Several times over the next year we passed by but always at either the wrong time of year(it is indeed an summer only business, closing up shop around mid September) or the wrong day(they’re not open every day… Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon appear to be your best bets). Finally managed to score some this last week. Although they’re not quite Cornish pasties(shape/style/quantity of ingredients/type of pasty) they *were* tasty and I highly recommend them. Also had a fine malt there(odd pairing for a pastie I know, but I love malts…) Silver Plume is also a great stop just for the fact that it looks so amazingly preserved…

A small café inside of an OLD Knights of Pythias lodge(hence«KP»), and ersatz community center for the few locals who live in Silver Plume. This place is packed with antiques and there is a very friendly and cozy vibe. We had the blueberry rhubarb turnover and sipped amazing cappuccinos while we ogled their store. Like most of the businesses in this old ghost town, the KP Café is seasonal, so once the snow flies and the disappears for months on end, you’ll be lucky to catch the owners around.
