I just left there and I’ll definitely go back. My hair is so straight and she gave me a good trim. I highly recommend this salon

I am now updating my review. I literally am sitting in the parking lot on a Monday at 11:31am. I walked to the door and they were locked and no one was there, even though the sign says they open at 10am. There is no sign or anything on the door or windows saying why they are closed. Unfortunately this is not the first time that this has happened to me with this particular salon. Now I’m Unilocaling to find another Dominican salon that I can get to quickly today. The owner and her mom are really nice but this is not a good way to run a business and I am fed up with it. I will not be returning.

This is my first and LAST time I will ever come here. i am currently under the dryer as I type this review and yes, like another person stated, this place is over rated! i don’t know what service u guys got, but all i know is that this place is shitty. its dirty too. First off, the shampoo girl had NO clue what she was doing. By the time I was done washing my hair, water was trickling from my neck to my back .and they have some sort of plastic cape you have to hold at the neck while they are washing your hair(first time I’ve ever had to do hands started to hurt). Secondly whoever was putting rollers in my hair saw it fit to use smaller rollers. what was she thinking? that I plan to sit under the dryer for 2 hours? my hair is long so I obviously need bigger rollers! I complained and asked her to use bigger rollers and she had a frown on her face .they are all so loud and unprofessional .im never ever going back.

I had a different experience the goal was to get a blow out. My hair is natural kinky/coils. I was asked if I want a perm. No, I never mentioned I wanted a perm however, the goal was to get a wash, deep conditioner and a blow out. Yes, my afro was blown out into a silky straight bob at the end with pain. However, a young lady that took care of me. Fair skin, waist length hair. She was not personable, needs training on natural hair. I’m not sure if this is a family operation but the basic skills this young lady didn’t have. The technique of combing natural hair, the patience wasn’t there, providing advice on my hair wasn’t given. I did receive a deep conditioner. My biggest pet peeve is applying direct heat to the scalp. There is a technique to this. Leave the edges I will slap some edge control on it. You’re not burning my face. The blow dryer nightmare causing me a headache for 2 days. I have to go back to you-tube to find a video on how to achieve the Dominican blow out at home. Take another advil for this headache. For those of you like bone straight hair maybe salon will work. I just don’t like to be tortured to achieve straight hair. I’m missing my 2 strand twist already. There have to be a better way to cut the excessive heat. I hope when I wash my hair the next time it won’t be from heat damaged. I had some bad experiences in the past but this experience brought back unpleasant memories.

I think this salon is overly rated and here are the reasons: 1) It is a hole in the wall, extremely small, and not very clean(particularly the bathroom). This place needs a serious upgrade. 2) Johanna is a very nice lady, and I take nothing from her personality; however, my daughter was the second person in the salon, she had previously made an appointment and was not a walk-in, but it took 4 hours to do her hair, not to mentioned that the perm was left in her hair too long which caused a small amount of hair loss towards the hairline. Her appointment was at 9:00. Johanna finished at 1:00. This is too long to sit in a very small salon. 3) The are three women who work in the salon(Johanna, her mother and one other lady). Johanna and her mother are nice; however, the third woman working with them is very unkind. She acts as if she doesn’t want to speak even when you say«hello.» My daughter asked what conditioner do they use and she totally ignored her. How rude. Also, there was a little girl approximate 3 – 4 years of age who had natural hair, and sorry for the little girl, but the third woman in the salon who is the most unkind, would be the one detangling her hair. The little girl made a gesture that her head was hurting by the way that the lady was combing her hair, putting her hand to her head to indicate that she was combing it roughly, and the lady moved her hand away with no sympathy what-so-ever. This was very disturbing to me. 4) The dryers used in this salon are not the ones that most Dominican salons have. Most Dominican salons have the flip top visor hair dryers for thorough and faster hair drying so if you have long hair, there wouldn’t be an issue with sitting under the dryer for long periods. This salon only uses the hooded hair dryers which don’t completely cover the head. Even if they had one flip top visor dryer, that would be better than having none. Most Dominican salons have both types. 5) Parking is an extreme headache. It is very cluttered in the area where the salon is located, and parking is very tight and limited. Please look for nicks and dings when leaving. Sorry people, but you all give this salon more credit than what it deserve. I really do like Johanna because she is a very pleasant person, and I really wanted this to work, but unfortunately, I can’t return.

This gets 5 stars for being fast, efficient, and yielding amazing results! I was done in under 2 hours. I don’t know that many folks can say that. I normally spend enough time in a beauty shop to be added to their payroll. But not this time, thank goodness! I had a regular wash and roller set. Johanna noticed my ends were raggedy. They were. No shame here. So I asked her to clip them for me. She did a great job. Everyone here in the salon was really sweet and fast. I cannot over-emphasize how quick they worked. And quality wasn’t sacrificed. My hair stayed straight as long as I wanted it to. Normally, I’d have to intervene with the straightening comb a few days later. Nope. Not this time. There was rain, humidity and everything else. Hair stayed straight and bouncy and fabulous. I’ll def be going back. A few things — parking is a little tricky. –You’ll park near Game Stop or get towed. –I paid like $ 50 for my blowout. –My hair is shoulder length and natural(could have had a bearing on the price)

I am new in town and rely on recommendations that I find on Unilocal.I pass by this salon every day and was impressed by the reviews. I went on Tuesday. The sign out front advertises $ 25 wash and blowdry on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I noticed in Jerica’s review that the price may vary according to hair length so I asked the stylist for the price. She didn’t respond. I went ahead and got started anyway. The pros: I have thick, type 3b/c hair with a lot of body that is below my shoulders and was in and out in 1 ½ hours. My hair is silky and shiny. The lady at the bowl was very good. She gave me a very thorough wash and smooth roller set. They take debit/credit cards. The cons: When I was finished, I asked, again, for the price. She heard/understood me then and charged me $ 40! Therefore, the advertising is misleading. She did as little as possible to style my hair. I have a layered haircut and the ends just stood up. She did not curl them. My hair drooped. I will not return to this salon or recommend it. Although I prefer the Dominican/Puerto Rican style of blowdrying my hair, I would not go back to Johanna’s even if it was the only one that was close to me. Fortunately, I have choices.

Really enjoyed my visit here and this may be my new Domincan Salon! I have noticed this salon multiple times when going to visit my cousin and then I saw the 25 dollar wash and set price(which is only on Tuesdays and price may vary based on your hair length) in the window. As a result of continuing to pass this place I decided to try. I called ahead on the day I went, to check the time they closed. Johanna answered and told me the closed at 6:00pm. Since I live in VA I rushed to MD as soon as possible to reach them before close. I was a little late and called again to inform Johanna I was running behind and she still waited for me and took me when I arrived. As soon as I walked in I went straight to the wash bowl and then I was immediately rolled and placed under the dryer. Johanna checked my hair after a while to see if I was dry and then I was immediately placed in the styling chair. Johanna was very sweet and we had good conversation while she was styling my hair. This isn’t a huge Dominican shop but the process is still fast, wonderful, and reasonably priced. I also noticed Johanna was adding weave to another clients hair and it looked amazing. I will be back and I will try other services.

Johanna is the best Dominican stylist I have ever had do my hair. I have very thick natural 3C/4A curls. She washed, deep conditioned, and then blow-dried my hair bone straight before using a flat iron to perfect the look. I felt she used the appropriate amount of heat on my hair, and only ran the flat iron down my hair with one pass. My friends were amazed at how pretty my hair was. Thank you, Johanna. See you soon.

I love this salon! Johanna is so nice and she makes every newcomer feel right at home. Most importantly, she did an excellent job on my hair! I’ve been to the salon several times and each time I’ve loved how Johanna has cared for my hair(and I’ve gotten many compliments). Go to this salon, you’ll be happy that you did!

My first time here. As there are many Dominican salons in the area but this one I drove past and read a good review. I was literally in & out in 2 hours. I got a wash & roller set and I love my hair. My hair is short and in between relaxed and natural stage. Its never been this bouncy. Johanna was very nice. I will be back.

I was so happy to find Johanna who use to work at Visions Salon in Adams Morgan. She left there in 2010, but because I had been in braids for a few months I didn’t find out about her departure until late and they did not provide any contact info. It has taken me 2 years to find her and I am so happy I did. When I first started going to Johanna in early 2009 I was so happy to find someone who could give me the Dominican bounce, without the fried ends and permanent damage that so many others have caused. At the time my hair was relaxed and I had heard horror stories about Dominican hair damage – not to mention the less than customer friendly disposition of many of the stylist. Johanna proved to be the total opposite of both of those stereotypes. During my time away from Johanna I have since done the big chop and have gone natural as of November 2010. I have learned even more about my hair texture and have grown even more leery about trying out any new Dominican salons. Which brings me to today… I found Johanna’s new contact info – through what feels like divine intervention — as I needed to was my hair but had no desire to deal with the natural hair process today. I called her and was able to come in 2 hours later. I came in to find her just as pleasant and hair conscious as 2 years ago and even more efficient, since she is now in her own salon. There is no shuffling between 3 – 4 different people or sitting in silence as conversations happen all around you. I highly recommend giving Johanna’s a chance, as a former relaxed client and as a current natural client. I can’t believe how straight, shiny, and healthy my tightly coiled 4b hair feels after my visit.
