After one of the Snowmageddons and the power outages that occurred, I was looking for a place to plug in my phone and all the chain restaurants were full. I just happened upon Kefa(only a few people in it, foolishly for the rest of S.S.), and I never regretted it. EVER. Sure, it’s a little small, but that makes it so much better. Nothing fancy, a whole lot of silly stuff to decorate the place, nothing matchy-matchy — oh, and the food… I was horrified to hear about what happened to it, but I kind of had the(extremely) selfish wish that it would mean that Kefa would move out to where I now live. I miss it bitterly. It’s a dining experience even with plastic forks and paper plates, if they had them.

Kefa Café is like stopping by a friend’s house for a sip and a chat — assuming your friends make truly delicious coffee beverages. The owners, Lene and Abeba, are warm and welcoming. The café is homey and cozy. The food is excellent, and the coffee is otherworldly. It’s tucked away on a quiet street in Silver Spring, and is the perfect rendezvous for coffee with friends, business associates, or a really good book.

This place is indeed a gem. The best chai latte EVER always served with a smile! Tasty egg sandwiches at a reasonable price and cozy tables where I invariably run into folks I know or folks who will become new friends. At the original location and at their second location at the Silver Spring library, you can also buy freshly roasted coffee beans. The beans are roasted locally at , also in Silver Spring. The Indonesian Sumatra Purbatua that I bought today was roasted on Feb 22nd and is direct trade. Can’t get that at Costco!

Kefa is easily one of my favorite spots in Silver Spring. I’ve been going for the last 15 years or so, and I STILL have not found a place that makes a chai as delicious as the one here. Highlights: the chai tea(which you can get blended w/ice, too!); the chicken salad(they make it themselves and it is quite possibly the best ever); the amazing women who own the shop! They’re always happy to see you, and it really maintains such an authentic neighborhood feel. Try it out! You won’t be disappointed :)

Kefa Café is THEBEST coffee shop around. It’s local with a wonderful community vibe. Great coffee and food. A fabulous place to meet friends to catch up or colleagues to have a meeting. Lene and Abeba are gracious, generous, lovely owners who greet you with their warm smiles, wonderful humor, and beautiful hearts. It’s my go-to coffee shop — every day.

They’re back and we are grateful. Good coffee, tasty breakfast pastries, eggs, salads, quiche, soup, sandwiches, desserts, espresso, teas, and the friendliest service in Silver Spring.

The only café in DC area out of dozens I tried that serves espresso the right way — with a small glass of sparkling mineral water — without you even having to ask. And espresso itself is wonderful. Just the way it’s supposed to be.

The best mocha in the DMV: robust and flavorful without being too sweet. Pure heaven. I’m so thankful for their stand at the Silver Spring library.

Had a very yummy cappuccino at their location in the SIlver Spring Library. In the warmer days that have passed in August, I enjoyed very good iced coffees. Always great service with a smile!

This review is a little overdue. Love their coffee and the owners. We’re constant regulars here(though we’ve noticed that they were closed a couple of weeks ago due to the fire at Quarry House). We really like the macchiatos. Coffee has nice fruity notes and pairs really well with milk or cream. During the summer they also have gelato and you can get affogatos with your choice of gelato flavor. Really sweet staff and always any interesting array of art scattered about the place. Definitely one of the best coffee places in the DC area.

The best banana nut muffin I ever had. Was recommended to try the chai latte(and I’m not a latte drinker. Coffee, black, is how I like it) and it was delicious. They were open with 10 inches of snow falling too. Lovely and friendly staff. Will definitely be returning often to try other food and read.

Gem of the neighborhood! My husband and I have been Kefa Café fans since 2002. It’s our place to stop after church. The coffee is wonderful, the desserts delectable, and the service absolutely awesome. Definitely recommend!

The ladies that own this place are the sweetest and appreciate each and every person that walls through the door. This is not a laptop kinda coffee shop even though space is plentiful and wifi is available. The cookies at the front of the register are AMAZING! And BIG! Coffee is roasted perfectly milk is always nicely steamed. Croissant sandwiches are a bit greasy for my liking.

Stopped in for a the first time. This was a great experience. The owner was so friendly and the coffee was excellent. They seem very community centered. I was super impressed. It felt like a home away from home. Charming, clean, joyous. Nice way to spend 30 minutes.

This is an artsy intimate coffee shop with a loving owner. You can tell she has put all of her magnanimous heart into this place. I’m glad I stopped by while I was in town.

Charming little café on the corner of Bonifant and Wayne, Kefa offers a nice variety of coffee drinks and teas, as well as danishes and other baked goods. Nice, cozy environment, with puzzles and books available to customers who wish to relax a bit over their drinks and snacks. Great place to stop for a quick pick-me-up or cool-me-down.

Yummy soy cappuccino and delicious quiche. I enjoyed the arty atmosphere, and the woman behind the counter was super nice. They lose a star because the food was kind of expensive for what you got, but I’m willing to pay a little more for a local joint. It’s worth looking beyond the Starbucks in DTSS for a walk to Kefa Café.

Me and my mom were in Silver Spring for a morning parade and I decided to look on Unilocal to see what cafes or coffee shops came up in the area. Kefa Café had the best reviews and it was open at 8:00 in the morning so we decided to go. The shop is adorable, the atmosphere was good, and the space is very small but we were able to find a seat. We ordered a chocolate muffin and a plain bagel with butter and cream cheese and a mocha with soy(Vegan/Vegetarian friendly). It was pretty crowded for it to be that early on a Saturday but the service was quick. The two owners/sisters were very friendly and welcoming. They have a wide variety of coffee so for all of you coffee lovers this is a good place to try.

The macchiato I enjoyed here was perfect, and I was thrilled to see Goldilocks Goodies gluten-free cookies at the register(they are not inexpensive, but they are delicious). I do wish the tables were a tad cleaner.

This is such a cute and cozy-looking café in Silver Spring(right around the corner from Pete’s New Haven Pizza) — I had a cup of their Café Mocha, which was their famous espresso, steamed milk, and chocolate syrup. Yum yum yum! It was hot, full of flavor, and I can taste the great quality coffee beans — the steamed milk and the drop of chocolate syrup also made this a nice delicious beverage, but not too sweet — it was a great balance between the two. I liked the coffee burlap bag decorating the tables throughout the place, and it seems like a great spot to get some work or studying done. Metered parking can be found along Bonifant St. I’m all about in supporting local and independently-owned stores/cafes! :D +Café Mocha +metered-parking along Bonifant

Totally in love with this place and their owners. I can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet. When you walk into this place you feel like you are home, whether you go their all the time or just once. This indeed is the best neighborhood coffee shop. The coffee is really good– which can be hard to find in drip coffees sometimes. The pastries and sandwiches are always fresh and delicious. What sells it though is the sweet sisters, Lene and Abeba. Even when my mom comes to the area, she insists we stop here to say hello to the sisters because they are just that nice.

This is a fantastic little coffee café that is run by an Ethiopian family who are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. They know how to brew coffee here. The espressos here are so incredibly fruity tasting, and the little puff pastries that are for sale are also quite delectable as well. Good brewed and prepared coffee, real nice simple comfortable setting where many locals sit and chat, nice ambiance, what more can you ask for. A perfect place to kill some time, or just grab a quick brew and forget going to the Starbucks instead. Worth a stop if you are in the neighborhood.

Do not get the scones, they are dry, dry, dry. The service on the other hand was superb. The location is cute but parking is not adorable. But, I like to support local so it sure beat the Bucks or DD… you know what I mean!
