The food was good, but it took FOREVER to get served and get the check. The first thing I ordered, they were out of… but it took 10 minutes to find that out. Then after I re-ordered, it was another 15 minutes to get the appetizer, and another 10 minutes after that for dinner. Probably another 20 minutes after I ate to get the check. That can be OK if you’re prepared for it, but I was not. I was also the only non-Salvadoran in the place, so if you’re not comfortable with that, be warned. The wait staff was nice, but barely spoke or understood English. Expect to hear Latin pop on the speakers, but not so loud you can’t have a conversation.

La Posada is a quaint little Salvadorian pupusaria tucked away in a Latino strip mall off of Piney Branch in Takoma, Maryland. I dream of this place’s pupusas. Literally. When I lived in Washington, I would go here at least twice a month. I’d always get the same thing: a pupusa with beans and cheese, one with locoro(a vegetable like broccoli), and a plate of plantains and refritos. The food was always excellent. Sometimes I’d get a horchata to drink, because their horchata was a miraculous hangover cure that saved me from the most dismal of post-party blues. The waitstaff seemed to be a bunch of sisters all from the same family, and their mother or grandmother was the chef. They were very nice, quick, and welcoming(they knew me, since I couldn’t stay away from their cooking!). You can eat quite well here for under $ 10. There are always a bunch of regulars at the bar watching soccer, so it felt like a pleasant place to be. If you like Salvadorian food, it is well worth it to come to this little corner of Takoma Park and sample their variety of pupusas and other Central American fare.
