By far the best bakery in the Silver Spring area. Their rugelach is to die for — it stays«fresh» for days and is beyond amazing. After reading the reviews for their turkey and cheese croissants I finally nabbed one(got to get there early or else they are long gone) and they truly are as good as everyone says — they even reheat well in the oven! The ganache cake is outstanding — definitely a best bet for a major chocolate fix. The NY Rye is also amazing and perfect for a hot corned beef sandwich! We’re moving from the area in just over a week and I will definitely miss this place!

Clean bakery, delicious goods, great variety of product, professional atmosphere, delightful attitude, & fun personalities! We found them on Unilocal & we WILL be back! We showed up on our motorcycle in leathers, that didn’t negatively effect their perception of us in the slightest! They treated us with respect & professionalism, treated us well, efficiently & effectively! I look forward to our next Sunday at my brother’s house & it is our turn to pick up the dessert!

I went here for the first time based on some of the reviews and pictures i saw on Unilocal. The bakery is stocked with a large variety of goods, especially the number of different breads. There are so many, but I wasn’t in the mood for breads during my visit. My wife and I bought a scone, zucchini tea cake, apple strudel, and almond croissant. The scone was not the texture I expected based on other scones I tried. This one seemed more like a chewy biscuit and not really crumbly, but it tasted OK. it was just different. The apple strudel had a nice crust and tart/sweet filling. Nothing earth shattering, but a good strudel. My favorites were the zucchini tea cake and the almond croissant. The zucchini tea cake is moist, sweet, has some different textures from the nuts and raisins. I really enjoyed this very much. The almond croissant had lot of almond-flavored filling and tasted great. I wish i was closer to this bakery. If I’m in the area, I’d definitely swing by to try some more items.

What is an artisan bakery doing in the drab little corner of SS known as the 20904? I’ve no idea and I’m not questioning this gift from the gods. Can’t give specific recommendations, pretty much all of the bread I have tried is great. Okay, pushed I can say I really like the pumpernickel, rye and wheat. Also the artisan baguette which, I think, has no dairy(yay!). Not so big on the danishes. Love the chocolate croissants but they always sell out. Also I have a habit of getting a craving for something from here on a Monday and driving over, only to realize that Monday is the day they are closed! If that happens to you, do not go into the Giant next door for a substitute baguette. You will only be asking for disappointment!

I’ve been visiting and enjoying this place for the past 10 years, at least. Never been disappointed. ***Cough*** I love this place so much that — is there any surprise that when I chose a name for my maid service company, I included the term«upper crust»? The meaning is different in context but it’s my salute to the metro area’s best bakery!

After reading the reviews it sounds like they do the challah bread and croissant sandwiches really well. I’ve gone 3 times now to try their other baked goods and thought only their Tres Leches cake was decent. Brownies were bleh, cupcakes were really bleh, carrot cake tasted stale. Sour cream peach cake was just ok too. To be fair, all 3 times I’ve gone were in the late afternoon(so they aren’t at their peak of freshness). Still, I expect more from a bakery. Sounds like they have a lot of regular patrons which is great but aside from the Tres Leches cake, I’ve given up and won’t be back.

I love love love their challah and tres leches cake to the point of OMG @#%(*&FYEAH. The carrot cake is interesting — light colored with shreds of carrot instead of your usual dark cake, but it also tastes good. just not OMG @#%(*&FYEAH good. The tres leches is unbelievably moist and luxurious yet not overly sweet. If you go too late in the day looking for something in particular, the selection can be limited. But just about everything I’ve tried here has been decent to great. The high schoolers(at least they look it) behind the counter are pleasant too.

Ok so I’ve really only tried the challah bread here. but to my defense I’ve tried to plain challah AND the raisin challah. so there! =P. In any case, it’s D-licious!!! I always try to persuade the hubs to let me get it every week but alas, I think we only get it like once a month now. In any case, this little bakery is right next to Giant on New Hamphire and Randolph road. It’s so cute actually. You come in and the smell of bread hits you right the face and it smells soooo good! They have so many varieties of bread and they always have samples on display so you can taste whatever they are displaying. So we’ve gotten the challah bread about 9 or 10 times already cuz it’s that good. It’s subtly sweet and so soft and moist. I love love love it! I’m sure they have more to offer, but if this place only sells challah bread I would still give it a 5 star because the challah is that good. Oh and the whole loaf is $ 4.95… which is why the hubs had to put a stop to my madness of getting it every week. but if I could, I would buy it every week. In any case, one day I will try their other breads and maybe update my score, but don’t take my word for it. Go and try it out yourself =)

First things first — I love bread. I could live on bread. Bread for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Bread alone, with butter, jelly, you name it. With that said, Upper Crust has the BEST bread I have ever tasted. And trust me when I say that I’ve had a lot of bread in my day — from countless cities and countries. This quaint little store boasts a bread selection that seems unmatched for any other bakery in this area. And though their speciality is clearly bread, their pastries are sooooo good too. I wish I could name ONE thing I love most about this place, but I cannot. I can, however, list some of my favorites: — Cranberry Walnut bread(or rolls) — Garlic Parmesan — Challah — Harvest Bread — Pecan bars — Caramel Brownie — Pineapple Carrot Cake — Rugulah If you are a true lover of all baked goods, like me, this is the place for you. The prices are very reasonable(for the quality, size, etc.), the staff is friendly and the place smells so gosh darn good. Note: there are no preservatives used in the products. So don’t be surprised if a loaf of bread does not last more than a week. However, with everything tasting so freakin’ good, I doubt you’ll have leftovers in a week anyway. :)
