Although the dining room is meh, and the service is unpredictable, the food is fabulous. These are the best rolls and nigiri I have had(so far) here in the PacNW. The toro is always so fresh, and the tempura is light, crunchy, and never greasy. They have an excellent selection of sake. Try a flight. You will love it if you love sake. If you don’t think you like sake, you might after you try some of the light fruity ones. The servers should be more knowledgable about their selections though(beyond what one can simply read in the menu). I would like to urge the restaurant to make sure their hostesses are polite, friendly and plan well. The last time we went, the hostess was abrupt and sat us where they would soon have a large party; leaving the server to have to ask if we would move. Shame on that hostess. She’s the one responsible for appropriately seating the guests. She shouldn’t have sat us where we’d have to move, nor should she have made the server deliver the bad news.

We just got in from Japan a few weeks ago and were feeling ‘homesick’ so we tried this place out — so good! It’s hard to find a Japanese Restuarant that lives up to all the incredible food we eat in Japan, おいしい!

Maybe because it was my first visit or my first attempt at Spicy Beef Ramen Soup, but I thought my lunch here at Jo: a was delish. Hot, spicy and a good balance of flavors.

The Avocado tempura is amazing! Sushi is outstanding and the servers are great. Pair that with very fair prices and in my book it will always be 5 stars.

Jo: a Japanese Restaurant is an excellent find in Silverdale. I ate here solo before, but today’s visit was to celebrate the kiddo’s birthday while visiting across the Sound. Coincidentally, we had the same personable wait person as before. Kindly received ice water and edamame to start off. I love that one can customize the bento boxes. I had the monster beef teriyaki bento that also came with miso soup, salad with sesame dressing, 4 pieces California roll, yakisoba, assorted tempura, and tender grilled beef. We also had the yellowtail roll and the salmon roll. The kiddo chose the chocolate lava cake with coconut ice cream and whipped cream. Our wait person kindly added a birthday candle which was a nice gesture. Excellent lunch and is comparable, and in some cases, exceeds some places in Seattle. Delicious and highly recommended if in the Bremerton/Silverdale area.

My husband and I have been looking for a good sushi place since moving to Bremerton last month, and Jo: a did not disappoint! GREAT sushi, and very fast service(although going on a Monday night probably helped with the crowds). We ordered several rolls, but the Ninja was the standout for me by far — such great flavor in every bite! We will definitely be back for more!

First time here and will definitely be back. Great food, very friendly staff and the place was very clean. The sushi rolls are huge and they have a good variety to choose from. Would be a great place to go with a group and order several different meals to share.

Found this gem and now I cant stay away. Quality food, outstanding service, and decent prices make this the destination for your next meal out. Quality sushi and a huge selection. I have gone three times now and each time it has been a great experience.

Fabulous, best sushi around! They have a nice variety at fairly good prices. The wine is always perfectly chilled. Service has been OK to good. Restaurant does a lot of business. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

When Jo: a opened last year, it quickly became my favorite sushi place in Kitsap. Sadly, the service and food quality have declined. On the Jo: a website, they say that they serve exquisitely crafted perfection in an upscale stylish atmosphere. Perhaps the perfection existed at the grand opening, or maybe I was giddy to have something in Kitsap that wasn’t a tired iteration of «fast casual», but its no longer the case, and the staff seems to have a «meh» attitude when problems arise. We went on Valentines day, which was probably a bad idea after receiving terrible service on my birthday. We were the second group in the door at 5 pm, and we were jammed into a corner at the sushi bar, the wait staff stated that we could not have a table. I assumed that there were reservations coming, but 2 two-tops remained open the entire time that we were there. We ordered the Gyoza, which I normally love, as they are usually cooked properly and remind me of the ones at a yakitori place I really love in Japan. Very undercooked dumplings soaked in oil arrived. I sent them back, and the waitress came back and said«The chef says that is how they come», with zero apology, and was told that he would not remake them. The waitress said we could try the«deep fried» version, and we agreed. The skins on the top of the new batch were rubbery and the bottoms were tough. We then ordered a few rolls and my husband’s Mariners roll had bones all through the Unagi. While it is normal to find a stray cartilaginous bone now and again, it was apparent that the eel had not been cleaned properly. Now, it may have been pre-cleaned and arrived at the restaurant that way, but when it was pointed out to the sushi chef, there was again no apology and a very«meh» reaction. Save your money and don’t buy into the hype that this place is the bee’s knees of sushi joints. While I will miss the Kona roll, I will be going to Hakata. Sugi values his customers.

Group of 7 with a reservation. Seated 15 minutes early on a busy Saturday night and couldn’t of had a nicer server/staff. ALL of the food was delicious and fresh. From sushi rolls(Crazy. Philadelphia, Boss, Spicy Tuna, Oh Yea, Eel) to Bento boxes and the 10 oz. Ribeye… all rave reviews with a lot of stuffed bellies. They even brought us compliemntary Mochi balls for dessert for the birthday we had there. My first time having this but YUM! Great atmosphere, food services, and good food. For those in the Silverdale area looking for a fresh sushi location this is it! Will be back when in the area.

We’ve been three times now, twice for dinner and once for lunch, each time it was stellar. Excellent, friendly service in a well designed and decorated space. We sat at the bar one time and had a good time interacting with the chefs back there. Onto the food — all of its fresh and delicious. The server brought over complimentary edamame, super cool guys. My favorite menu item is the tuna stack appetizer — lots of fresh tuna and avocado with sticky rice and a great/spicy wasabi sauce. We had a few rolls, including the kitsap and we looooved it. What was great was the staggering of the rolls, pretty much as soon as we were done, another would show up, but with very little overlap. When we had lunch there, we ordered the phở, it was the seafood one and it was EXCELLENT. I would highly recommend it.

My family moved to the WA area last August and found Jo: A through Unilocal. It’s one of our favorites now. You can’t beat the kids bento box if you have kids. Great value and healthy option for them instead of McD’s. I myself have gotten the bento box and there is plenty to eat. This time around we got ramen noodles. Note they only serve during lunch. Friendly service and awesome sushi. Delicious.

My wife and I ate here tonight. We got the Saba for the appetizer, ninja roll and the tempura battered fried oreos. Everything was delicious. My wife and I have eaten a lot of sushi in the best places in Hawaii, and this place is on par if not better than any place we’ve ever eaten. This is saying a lot. The fish was fresh and the rice was perfect. Their menu is huge, so it was hard to decide, but I imagine there isn’t a bad thing on the menu, if what we ordered was any indication, The place was clean and the service was great. We will be back!

As far as sushi is concerned, I’m pretty picky. Jo: a gets it done the right way. There isn’t too much rice overwhelming the nigri, the miso soup is delicious and tastes fresh. The rolls are really the stars though. My husband and I have tried two of the special rolls, and they were both amazing. The fish is fresh and just what you’d expect for a good sushi place. My husband got the katsudon the first time we went, and he said it was probably the best he has had. There’s no doubt in my mind that we will be back!

Awesome sushi! Great food overall. We had the deep fried scallops(which my fiancé rates a 7 out of 5 stars). The tempura was perfectly crispy and the scallops on the inside were perfection. We got the chicken katsu meal — pretty decent. A little average, but edible. We also split 3 sushi rolls — spicy tuna, the Alaskan and the spider. The spider was beautifully crafted! My favorite wherever I go still remains to be the spicy tuna. All 3 were good. The service was perfection(they redeemed themselves from last time I was here). Overall good experience. Will return!

Initial review is a three star only because I was craving ramen(which is only served at lunch«because it is so popular» — our cute waitress) also because the calamari was nothing special. The breading was bland, but it was cooked perfectly. The aioli dipping sauce was nothing spectacular either very plain. The miso soup was good. OHPETPEEVE… Although Miso dressing is one of my favorites and theirs is pretty good, it did not seem as if they rinse their lettuce first. It tasted as if it came straight from the bag into my bowl. Okay so they redeemed themselves with my main course which was the Thai Scallop and Prawns Udon with Red Curry Cream Sauce. This dish made up for their lows. The scallops and shrimp were cooked perfectly along with the udon. The cream sauce had the right amount of heat to make me want more. Will be back for their sushi and their ramen.

I’ve gone to Jo: a several times now and I can definitely say I’m a fan. Admittedly(as I’ve said in my Trapper’s Sushi review too), I am a raw fish wuss. I can’t deal with the texture of raw fish — so I opt for chicken, shrimp, crab, and vegetarian. What I love about Jo: a is their wide variety of me-friendly rolls. What’s even better is that they have happy hour from 8pm to close and everything on their list is super reasonable and quite extensive. The restaurant is really nice, it’s always clean, and the servers are friendly. Service is quick — even when they’re very busy, the wait time isn’t terribly long. Lots of tables of different sizes, lots of bar seating. The food always looks great. I also love that they are now open on Sundays, with late hours — as opposed to closing at 5pm like some places do… Definitely going back many times, and bringing friends along.

I’m giving this place 5 stars for their food alone. We got 4 rolls and an appetizer and a kids meal and everything was delicious. For the appetizer we decided on the caprese dip which was pretty good and not at all what I was expecting. The Kitsap roll was SO good, I would recommend this roll over the others we got. And let’s take a second to talk about the kids menu… so ridiculously awesome. $ 6 for soup, rice, a generous piece of salmon, Cali rolls and dumplings. It was the best kids meal I’ve ever seen at a restaurant. I also LOVE how they didn’t have the same crap food for kids(hamburger, hot dog, Mac and cheese). For the kids meal alone we will be coming back. The only minus was the waitress, which I’m sure she is still being trained. She forgot to add the sake on the bill so we left an extra $ 7 on top of her tip hoping that she realizes later. She also forgot our daughter’s juice and brought it halfway through the meal(she must have remembered suddenly). Also, she never refilled our drinks, which is only a big deal because the water glasses are extremely small. I’m sure the next time we dine here the waitress will be more experienced.
