Smokin Steves delivered the taste of old west style BBQ. Highly recommend and will use again.

HORRIBLE! Do not use them and if you do BEWARE!
We used them for our wedding in April. There are so many things that were wrong with this company. Candice couldn’t figure out how to get our order done properly. Once they did (and it was ONLY because they wanted full payment at that time and we explained they couldn’t get full payment of an incomplete order). They overcharged on a lot and only fixed it when I pointed it out. DJ also added $ 800 in gratuity that was not agreed upon and refused to give it back. The day of the wedding they had 1 less person then they were supposed to. They were supposed to do clean up and left with out doing it or removing props that they used! We had to stay back and do all the work that they had promised to do! Totally wish we hadn’t used them!

Summary: Smokin’ Steve’s does not fully disclose all fees and price increases until you are ready to put down a deposit. That’s when they hit you with all these extra charges. They also expect you to put down a deposit when they cannot send an honest proposal. Transparency is an obstacle with this caterer.

Working with DJ at Smokin’ Steve’s has been such a frustrating experience.
I reached out to Smokin’ Steve’s July 2015 to request a quote for our wedding. They provided a quote for both the BBQ Buffet and the LIVE BBQ. Fast forward to January 2016. I called DJ to discuss the quote, so I can get a better idea of what is included. I mentioned that we will need help setting up the tables (including linens, napkins, and glassware) and cleanup after the event. We spent over half an hour on the phone, and DJ assured me that we will get 4 servers (already accounted for in the quote) on wedding day and that they can certainly help with all those things.
My fiancé and I went in for a tasting two days later. I emailed DJ the following day to let him know that we are ready to put down a deposit, and he informs me that the prices have increased. Additionally, he advised that we will need to pay for additional servers since we need setting up /​cleaning up. Why was this information omitted from our previous conversations??? If prices had increased, why would you spend 30 minutes walking me through the quote line by line and advise at the end that the price listed is what we are expected to pay when you’ve increased everything at the start of 2016? You wasted my time and your time by discussing a quote that is no longer valid, and now, you’re also backtracking and telling me that I will need to pay for additional servers?
If a business cannot even provide something as simple as a fair and accurate quote, then I cannot imagine how they would be able to survive on wedding day.
I asked to talk to Steve directly, but DJ says he handles all questions and concerns. Seriously? I highly doubt if Steve knew that a customer would prefer to speak to him that he would refuse to. Otherwise, he is bound to let the office admin run his business to the ground.

This place is horrible. Way too over priced, they are such a rip off. We paid over 800 dollars and the food was terrible. The meat, which was supposed to be tri tip, tasted like hot dogs and was way over cooked. The potatoes were so bland and the beans weren’t even that good. Then they had the audacity to give us rolls still in the bag from the store. Like they didn’t even put them in their own packaging to make them look nice. Overall everything was just horrible.

Do they only cater now? The restaurant is never open. Food was good, what a bummer.

We use to come here a lot last year. Tried it again twice this month. Both times they were closed contrary to what the Internet (nothing on their web site) AND their phone system says. I wish them the best but we are tired of driving all the way there to see a closed sign.

WOW. a job well done in all respects! The smoked ribs were Outstanding! — we catered a party for 30 people and they brought food, plates, utensils, sauces (Oh the raspberry chipotle is so great, nice and spicy and flavorful) and a bright and cheery demeaner from the guy upon delivery. The whole package we ordered was well worth the price and they delivered. I will order from them again.

Used them to cater our co-​ed baby shower. Aaaaaaaamazing! My hubby craves this food all the time! We are forever customers now!

I had Smokin’ Steve’s cater my wedding last week, and I can’t say enough good things about them! First of all, their food tastes AMAZING! Go for the live BBQ option — it’s definitely worth the nominal costs. All of our guests raved about how yummy the food was. Their prices are super reasonable for the quality of food and service you get. Other caterers that I interviewed were extremely expensive, and I felt like I was being up-​charged left and right without a clear explanation for why. No so with Smokin’ Steve’s! Their prices were competitive, and they were wonderful to work with, both on the day of the event and leading up to it. Steve is really responsive, and even though he’s busy, he’ll always get back to you in a timely manner. And his team is top notch. We got our rentals through him as well and it was so simple and easy. I’ll be visiting their Simi store front quite often now that I’ve found this gem, and I can’t thank them enough for making our wedding a huge success!

We were having a party for my husband’s department employees and their spouses at our home and we decided to give Smokin’ Steves a try instead of the other BBQ resteraunts in town. We have been to the resteraunt (and are thrilled we can now order a beer with our lunch) however this was our first time using their catering service. We figured we would have between 35 – 40 guests at our party so we ordered 2 Team Party packs. There was a lot of food! No one left the party with an empty stomach! And the food was AMAZING!!! I would totally recommend our local Simi Valley Smokin’ Steves for catering or dining over any of the chain BBQ places in town.

Wonderful food perfectly prepared. Staff friendly. Owner has catered two weddings and a 18^th birthday party for members of my immediate family. All attendees raved about the food. Difficult to understand the one very poor review… must have been a competitor. Will return often. Highly recommended.
