The sushi is great, the service is great, and the atmosphere is excellent. I am a big fan of how this sushi restaurant gives descriptions of their sushi. They even list where the fish came from. The sushi chef was very attentive and receptive, the waitress was extremely helpful and readily available, and the pricing is competitive with any other sushi restaurant. I am a big fan of Japanese art and culture, and there is so much art and culture displayed throughout this restaurant. I will definitely be coming back and I will bring plenty of friends with me.

Sushi is fresh and the rolls are interesting. Not just the standard stuff. The service was good and the offer hot plum sake which is our favorite. It’s not cheap but as I’ve learned good sushi rarely is.

My 89 year old father and I went to Tomodashi last night for a quick meal before a movie. We got there almost an hour before the movie started, so no huge worry about time, and we ordered very light — my dad ordered an eel avocado roll and ikura with quail egg, I ordered yellowtail sashimi and their sexy tuna roll. Our sushi chef, Ian, presented the yellowtail almost immediately, then the eel roll. Then 15 minutes went by. Then 20, 25. Nothing. It was very busy, I didn’t want to pester Ian, he was busy making takeout order after takeout order, right in front of us. Eventually he asked, ‘would you like anything else?’ I smiled and reminded him that we had ordered the sexy roll and the ikura — he blanched and said, ‘oh, right — I’ll make those right away.’ We sat. And sat, while he continued to fill takeout orders. Time marched on. Eventually, I said, ‘can we pay the check now? We’re going to miss the movie.’ Ian said something to our waitress in Japanese, nothing to us. We continued to sit, I paid the check, tipped 25%, and we waited for our final order. It didn’t come. Eventually we had no choice, we had to get up and leave. I was angry at this point — I said(angrily), ‘you can give our order to someone else, it’s all paid for.’ Ian said, ‘no, I cancelled your order, you only paid for what you had. I never asked you to cancel our order!’ I responded. I was clearly mad. Then, Ian started hissing, ‘Just leave. Just go. Just leave. Go.’ I stood there, open mouthed and appalled at this behavior — no apology, no explanation, he just wanted me out the door. So — we left. Let me be clear — Ian is American born, there was no language problem here, no misunderstanding. There was a complete lack of care and hospitality. My father is an 89 year old diabetic, perfectly lucid and ambulatory, certainly deserving of a little consideration. Someone who cared at all about their clientele would have given us the same degree of welcome that they gave any other customer. I felt insulted, devalued and dismissed. If that’s not what you’re looking for in a dining experience, I strongly suggest you choose another sushi restaurant.

I was really surprised and I finally found my great sushi spot in Simi. The service was amazing and we felt very welcomed from the moment we got there. I told the first server that this was our first time and she immediately spent a few minutes going over some recommendations. The fish was very fresh and the sushi chef seemed like he really cared that we enjoyed our food. I can’t wait to come back.

The food is good BUT, they put EXTRA salt in the miso soup, EXTRA salt in the garlic edamame, and EXTRA salt in the salad dressing, which made it all inedible. You stick to what you do best. I will add the extra salt if I want it.

Best sushi in Simi hands down! If you sit at the bar, sit on Ko’s side. He is the man! Fast and tasty cut rolls every time. The waitresses are always nice and friendly. Highly recommend. See you tomorrow!

Food is always excellent. Service can be spotty when busy. I’ve been going here since they opened because fish is always good.

Update: had to bring this place down one star from 4 to 3. Every time I come here their avocado is not ripe — and this time upon arrival for my pick up I checked my order and the avocado was not ripe yet again. I didn’t make a big deal about it, I just asked for a side. As usual Ester was the one to help me and she asked the sushi chef to give me a side and make sure it was ripe — it wasn’t . — — — Ester makes this place into a 5 star! Every time I go there she makes sure all customers have what they need, she seems to be the only one that can communicate effectively with customers and sushi chefs helping avoid a lot of language barriers. When she’s not there they usually mess up my roll or forget something but they always offer to remake but I’m so hungry by then I just get it in the side and eat my roll right away. If it were not for water I would give this place only 3 star

This place is fantastic. Food is excellent the service fantastic the place is awesome. So you say if its so awesome so fantastic, why 4 stars not 5? Well ill tell ya. First of all the teriyaki steak… great sauce but over done:( Second and i know this is not that bad but it bothers me. The bathrooms were not as clean as i would like and had a not pleasant odor not because someone just used it it lingered :( But yes i will return and this will be my go to sushi place in simi.

WOW, I can’t believe I haven’t left a stellar review for this place yet. Now is the time to let the world(all of Simi Valley) that this place has the best sushi here in town. If you wanna fight about it, meet me at tomodachi. It’s a small place but they have take out so you can enjoy this while sitting on your couch watching the new season of Orange is the New Black on Netflix. Really relaxed atmosphere and the staff treats you well. If you haven’t been here yet, YOU’REMISSINGOUT!!!

I feel like Unilocal let me down with this one. The first trip I tired the California roll with brown rice and the popcorn lobster. The CA roll was really good and was warm because the rice was just made. I enjoyed it. The popcorn lobster was soaked in sauce and the tempura seemed very thick and dense, not a fan. I also like my tempura hot and fresh, it wasn’t. The service was one waitress for the whole place so service wasn’t great. Second trip, CA roll, shrimp tempura and ichi roll. Ichi was also soaking in sauce, so sweet, did not care for it. California roll was average and the shrimp tempura was average. Wanted cut rolls but somehow ended up with hand rolls. Friday night so there were 2 waitresses however the service is still ridiculously slow and unattentive. The sushi chefs seem very sweet and knowledgeable so it makes me sad I can’t like this place. Only reason I’d come back is for the brown rice sushi factor but that won’t be enough for me to come back here. The perfect sushi bar quest continues.

TOMODACHI — This place knocked it out of the park last night. Unfortunately for me I live in Northern California so I only get to eat here when visiting… I would probably be here weekly if I lived down south. Octopus Salad, Halibut and Asparagus Tempura, Uni Shooters and Chilean Seabass roll… are you kidding me? How come we don’t serve Sushi like this in San Francisco. Eat here. You can thank me later.

The owner of this sushi bar is very nice and he really knows his fish facts. The blue fin tuna is my favorite fish and the raw Japanese scallops are delicious. The live shrimp on top of the sushi bar are absolutely terrific, I mean how much fresher can you get. My kids love ordering the salmon eggs when they come to eat here. One of the best tasting fish I have to say is the Spanish Mackerel and it is very delicious.

Celebrating my new job:) We came across this place after shopping in Simi Valley. This place was packed! Even though it was a full house the service was not lacking. There was about 4 waiters/waitress and 3 sushi chef. Hands down the BEST and I mean the BEST tuna mango crunch I ever had. The tuna was so fresh and buttery. The combination of mango and tuna just melts in ya mouth. The wonton was super thin but had the perfect crunch. Rainbow roll was really good. My BF loved the fact that it wasn’t packed with rice like most sushi places. ALL the rolls are filled mostly with fresh fishes, avocado, crab meat and etc. I don’t recommend the soft shell crab and popcorn lobster. It was okay and not worth it. Affordable and excellent quality sushi!!!
