Dinner consisted of the Johnny Cake Biscuits and the Reuben with the Kale Salad as the accompanying side, while dessert was the Hazelnut Bombe. My drink of choice for the night was the«What’s Up Doc?» The biscuits were well made, not too soft and just enough crunch. The honey sesame butter also had the right amount of sweetness to it and complimented the biscuits perfectly. My only gripe is that I paid $ 7 for biscuits. Bread and/or biscuits should really be an on the house item, just as most restaurants do. The drink was also a surprise and I found it to be right on the money. It had just the right amount of sweetness and tang with all the flavors coming together nicely. No one flavor overpowered the other. Was it worth $ 10? If you look at it as a very once in a while treat, then yes. As for the main course and dessert, well, that’s an entirely different story altogether and are the reasons I docked three stars. The Reuben I was served wasn’t just one of the worst Reuben’s I had ever had, it was one of the worst meals I had ever consumed. The meat was almost nothing but fat, the flavors were almost nonexistent, and the bread was soaking wet from all the butter that it was cooked in. I managed to finish the sandwich, but that was due to feeling very hungry that night and because I don’t think it’s necessary to complain to the wait staff unless the dining experience is truly horrific. As for the kale salad, it was the best part of the main course. It didn’t suffer from the usual problem of being doused in dressing like I see at many other restaurants, the vinaigrette had a smooth texture to it and wasn’t overly bitter, and the kale had a nice crunch to it. Lastly, we have the Hazelnut Bombe. The presentation was spot on but that was about it. Again, I found the flavors to be bland and void of sweetness, and to make matters worse the cake was very, very dry. Although I did not enjoy most of my food, I found the layout and atmosphere of the restaurant to be wonderful, it’s in a lovely spot in Simsbury, and the wait staff seems very pleasant. Unfortunately, I’m not sure I’ll ever eat there again. The main course and dessert were both just so abysmal that I’m not sure I’m willing to give the food another shot.

So I will start off by saying this was an amazing experience. My boyfriend and I dined in the downstairs tavern on Saturday night which offers both the dining room menu and the tavern menu. I would have made reservations for the dining room but calling Friday morning was too late to squeeze in at a normal dinner spot. Downstairs was very nice, almost preferred how cozy and not open it was compared to the dining room. BUTTOTHEFOOD. After reading reviews about the tasting menu, my boyfriend and I decided to give it a try. We were here for his birthday so we decided to tack on the wine pairings also. Everything was phenomenal. The menu changes very often so I feel it would defeat the purpose to list everything we had, but I will say The crab stuffed quail and the swordfish were some of the best I’ve ever had. The wine pairings were perfect. The whole meal was well worth the money. I highly recommend the tasting menu. And although we talked to our waiter a lot, neither of us caught his name. But nice, bearded, waiter, twice removed cousin of the bartender, you were the best. :)

Love, Love, Love. It’s about 30 minutes northeast of Hartford out in Simsbury, but worth the drive, yes worth the drive. Have done the chefs tasting, $ 85pp, twice in the last few months loved every minute of it. Warn wait staf of any allergies you may have and they will cater. Service is attentive, the wait staff explain the ingredients in every dish to you as it is brought to your table. New table wear brought to you during each tasting, and napkins folded if you get us to use restroom. The building is spectacular, and the view of the waterfall during the day or night can’t be beat! Have a romantic night, or just want some good food and spoil yourself. Book a table on Fri — Sat nights it gets busy.

I have no doubts in my mind. Millwright’s is superb in every way, from the dishes created to the chefs and servers. There is no other way to say it: I am extremely impressed. Before all else – and if this is all that you read – please note the kindness and hard work of the staff at Millwright’s. Each time I have visited, the servers have been welcoming and kind, and have gone out of their way to make for the best dining experience. They have made an extremely positive impression on me each time I am here. This includes a couple of the chefs I have met as well, including Chefs Tyler, Kristin, and Niles. Having visited Millwright’s for a Cook & Bear collaboration dinner as well as a special workshop dinner, I have been able see and taste the most innovative dishes. Truly, thought and care are put into each dish. At my most recent adventure here – the workshop dinner – Chef Tyler showcased dishes that were based on his life experiences. Snagging a front row seat at the counter in the loft’s kitchen, I saw first hand the skills and talent of Chef Tyler as well as Chefs Niles and Aaron. The dishes and drinks for all of the guests were prepared carefully and skillfully right in front of me. The flavors of each dish were outstanding, working in perfect harmony with one another. I also sampled various libations paired with the food, and all flavors complemented each other so well. I tried new foods and flavors, and found I thoroughly enjoyed each. The chefs took the time to chat with guests in between courses and explained each dish they had thought of and created with passion. This workshop dinner was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. It is difficult to describe the experience that Millwright’s gives until you witness it firsthand. You, too, will be impressed. If you are willing to or would like to experiment, then Millwright’s is the place. There is a reason this restaurant – both the staff and the food – is consistently discussed or is given awards. Take the opportunity to see and taste the amazing talents of the chefs here!

I’m not sure where I should start. This place is amazing(we were here Jan 2016). I used another app to make reservations which simply stated: My friend is not big on celebrating birthdays and I’d like to make this special for him. Well, they did not disappoint!!! We arrived and was taken away by the view. Beautiful, red, old rustic mill surround by white lights. We are upstairs and the décor, exposed wood and view was soo romantic. We were seated next to the window with a perfect view of the water. There was a note on the table welcoming my friend and wishing him a happy birthday. They gave us glasses of champagne to toast(I’m not a drinker so more for the birthday guy). My friend received a complementary large glass of wine which he enjoyed. The waitress was attentive, nice and made us feel like we were the only couple in the place. I can’t say one bad thing about the meal. It was absolutely delicious and fresh. I’m not a fan of Brussels sprouts but this place has changed my mind. I highly recommend. My friend still raves about this place and I can’t wait to go again. They even brought out a special, new dessert which was being added to the menu in addition to what we ordered. I can’t think of any place that comes close to this one. The meals are reasonably priced but you feel like your meal was prepared by a personal chief who’s cooked for you for years. Great food, location, service and ambiance. One of CT’s hidden gems. You must experience it for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

We had our wedding reception last night at Millwrights and it was amazing! We used the intimate loft where the staff took amazing care of us! Jeff, The maitre’d, called us multiple times to ensure we were pleased with the menu and set up. When we arrived it looked even more beautiful than we expected. There was a private bar in the loft with 2 great waitstaff to help us for the night. Ron and Ashley took care of us and addressed us by name all night. As a special treat my groom and I were allowed to go into the kitchen to meet Tyler Anderson himself!!! We were thrilled!!! The atmosphere and ambiance alone was enough to make us happy, but the hospitality and extra details had us on cloud 9. All of our guests admitted it was one of the best meals they had ever had at a wedding. Thank you Millwrights for making our wedding day magical!!! :)

I’ve had dinner here twice. When you go to a place like this you expect to be wowed, because that’s a big part of what you pay for. Too bad something is intrinsically wrong with Millwrights, because the ambience is great. The hostess was rude to me and my mom and treated us as if we were street urchins when we came in without a reservation on a Tuesday night. When my mom asked if she could make a reservation for six for a week in advance, it was as if she had asked the girl to move a mountain(or you would have thought as much by the angst she exhibited upon hearing the request). Whatever, once we sat down I was hoping things would get off to a better start. Millwrights changes their menu seasonally and keeps it in tune with local farm offerings which is very cool. They had some mushrooms that were delicious and I had beef tartare that was exquisite and I would highly recommend. The«fried chicken» entrée was very disappointing and weird… once you realize that«roulade» isn’t just a French sauce but actually means the chicken is rolled up and sliced… I dunno I wouldn’t recommend it. 2 other people in my party of 6 got it and my little brother got the kid’s menu chicken fingers. The three of us agreed that his dish looked better than ours. The service here has been odd unilaterally. Once they refilled my boyfriend’s beer without even asking him(he was very surprised as he hadn’t been planning on ordering another) and charged us for it … Weird… The seasonal vegetable dishes are where it’s at. Avoid the«roulades». Like a lot of high end farm to table-y restaurants I think they could benefit by not having all the mains be super rich. Sometimes simpler(and less butter and cream and animal fat) is better… All that being said, the building itself IS lovely and it would be a good place to bring a date(overhead wood beams, low lighting, rushing water outside… very romantic).

One more reason to love Millwrights. Millwrights used to be closed Monday Nights. But not anymore! Their downstairs tavern is now open Monday evenings at 6:30(for the foreseeable future) with a monumental twist. Guess who is collaborating with Millwrights to serve up tasty BBQ inspired dishes on Monday nights? How about Jamie«The Bear» McDonald of Bears BBQ fame. Yes indeedy, this is a culinary collaboration worthy of a Food Network special. We had dinner here tonight and this is the tapas-like menu we saw: $ 5 Bites –small plates of 4 wings, BBQTine fries with foie gravy and pulled pork, mac and cheese balls with marinara, pickled farm vegetables, scallion-honey butter biscuits, and mexican street corn with lime-cayenne and cotija. $ 8 salads –iceberg wedge with radishes, seeds, and a pickled ramp buttermilk dressing, smoked beets with ricotta and walnut pesto, and farm greens with fennel and a miso vinaigrette. $ 6.50 choices from the smoker — pulled duroc pork, leg of lamb, prime beef biscuit, baby back ribs, and smokes beets. $ 10.50 sandwiches –burnt ends, nashville hot chicken, and a smoked lamb gyro. $ 4 sides– mac and cheese with chicken cracklings, baked beans, cole slaw, cherry tomatoes with cucumbers and kale, broccoli salad, crispy potatoes, and grits with charred squash. $ 6 desserts are banana puddling with chocolate and pretzel crumbles, and a plum crumble with vanilla ice cream. We had 2 beers, mac and cheese balls, a smoked beet salad, a hot chicken sandwich, baby back ribs, and a side of the grits. It ran about $ 50 and was worth every single penny. The mac and cheese balls were light, delicate and flavorful. The beet salad was freaking delicious. The chicken sandwich was a big slab of fried chicken on a roll with shredded lettuce and pickles and it was excellent. There were 4 big ribs, but I thought they were a tense dried out. and the grits was wonderful. What a great idea for Millwrights and the Bear to work together for the benefit of mankind.

service service service. followed by graciousness, gratefulness, and deliciousness. That is millwrights and Chef Anderson’s team. We have be lucky enough to eat in the restaurant once and the tavern twice. We much prefer the tavern atmosphere and the good news is that you can get the dining room menu downstairs as well. The tavern is super popular which was evidenced by an empty dining room but a full tavern at 630 on a Friday. The cocktails are made with care and the Old Fashioned never ever disapp
