Very pricey for the quality of the sushi they serve. I just order food for take out, so I am not sure about service, but I don’t think the food is worth the price.

This place is officially off the list. We have been coming here for years. Service has never been very good. The waitstaff/hostess are usually pretty unfriendly. I have known then to answer the phone with a «hey» when calling for takeout. That hasn’t changed at all. They are all still very surly and unpleasant. We used to be willing to overlook that for the amazing sushi and hibachi. However, the food is just not good anymore. The spicy roll combo was drowning in mayo-ish sauce. The wasabi was old and greyed out. The wine was old and bordering on vinegar. Last time we got hibachi in the dining room everything was cold. It has just gotten progressively unpalatable over time. Over it and time to move on.

Not very accommodating with special requests on the menu and the foods never as impressive as I expect it to be for the price. I’ve had far better Sushi and Hibachi before from places in and outside of the Simsbury area. The lack of interest in satisfying their customers wants is enough to make me never return, though.

There are so many sushi options in Greater Hartford now that good sushi isn’t good enough. The sushi here is good, but the service is consistently awful. Polite, but awful. Long wait for everything, delivered California rolls when we were told tuna or salmon rolls, asked for lemon and never got it. They seem understaffed and staff is disinterested, perfunctory. Would never go without Groupon.

I used to freaking love this place! My family has been going to this restaurant for over 20 years or so. It has always been my favorite place until this last year when it has gone down hill in service, cleanliness & quality of food — especially sushi & sashimi. We were there last week for lunch & were 1 of 2 tables. Service was slow & the food was even more disappointing. I am not a neat nic but the tables were covered in a dirty film that had the odor of stale dirty water . After our sushi sat on the counter for 5 minutes — the waitress finally appeared & brought it to us just as I was getting up to retrieve it. Portions were small, both sushi & Kani salad. Sushi was Luke warm. We ordered Sapporo beers and couldn’t find a waitress so we could get glasses. Tonight I went there and ordered the same thing to go. Again, disappointing. When I got home the order was wrong. On top of that they placed hot soup on top of sushi & Kani salad on top of soup. The Kani salad was pathetic, warm & mostly shredded cucumber. The sushi was someone else’s order & skimpy… so disappointing. This place was always a bit pricy especially years ago but it was always worth every penny ! Now it is not worth it… it has become just another run of the mill sushi place . So disappointing as this was always my favorite place . There has to be better places in the valley for sushi . One week later here… I tried Oishi in West Simsbury & what a pleasant surprise. The lady who waited on me was wonderful — the portions were good & sushi well made — will definitely go here again instead of saki muri.

My girlfriend ate here in July and enjoyed the sushi here as one of the best of her life– we ate here again with a Groupon and it could not have been worse. The tartare was prepared with a sweet, sickly miso sauce not mentioned on the menu and the fish was mealy and lukewarm. The black and white tuna appetizer was tasty, but expensive. Far and above, the sushi and sashimi combo was the worst– stale nori, limp salmon and tuna, and yellowtail with large hunks of skin on it. Attention was sparse and the food was just so deeply underwhelming.

Happy we went… this was an old favorite of ours many years back. We just moved back to the area after four years and wanted to return. After reading the recent reviews we were very hesitant. But… service was great and sushi was awesome. We will go again…

I’m being kind with 2, because I really think this is more like a 1& ½ stars. I went a few years ago and enjoyed it. It was nothing spectacular but overall good. I’m a sushi addict and moderately picky about it. Since I’d liked it, we bought a groupon for«dinner for 4» and went with my boyfriend’s parents for a night out. When we arrived I wasn’t sure if his mom would prefer hibachi, so when the hostess came to the front and asked how many and where we wanted to be seated, I asked her to wait a second for us to figure out where to sit. She looked ridiculously annoyed and went to do a few things, came back and we said regular table for 4 please. She said«1 moment» and then proceeded to disappear for a few minutes. We just stood there at the door wondering what happened since the place was only ¼ full and there were tons of open 4 top tables. Someone else showed up and seated us after we embarrassingly just stood there for awhile. Unfortunately, the original hostess was also our waitress and she’s miserable. I don’t know if she’s like that in life or just at Sakimura, but she should not be a server. We got the sushi dinner for 2 and his parents got the pork katsu and teriyaki chicken bento box. She asked if we’d want forks. Both his parents said yes. We all got our miso soup and salad. My boyfriend’s dad proceeded to sit and stare at his salad because he’s not good with chopsticks and the server never brought the forks. Their dinners came and we waited and additional 15 or so minutes for our sushi. They tried to sit and wait for everyone to have their food but it was getting cold so we told them to go ahead. On top of that, we had to ask for the forks we were offered but never received. She practically chucked it at me and I didn’t even need one. So I kindly handed it over so my BFs dad could eat his salad and dinner. Once we got all the food and a refill on drinks(she just wants to bump up her tip with more cash spent on drinks obviously), she once again ignored us. I tried through our entire sushi to get her attention. She made eye contact with me and would look away and walk in the other direction. We wanted the low sodium soy sauce and had to just grin and bear it because she never once asked if we needed anything. FOOD: Our sushi rice was badly made. It fell apart and was overall not made well. The rice is very important and it needs to be done with skill. Apparently, the sushi chefs don’t have much. The fish quality was fine, but you can find better sushi at feng or even mikado. The pork katsu was dry. The only thing I really enjoyed was the wine and they don’t actually make that. We ended with the crème brûlée to share. Who knew a japanese restaurant could suck at sushi but do that nicely… so the dessert and wine are good. Once she shoved our bill at us, I gave my groupon to her. She did it by hand and chucked it back on the table. We did attempt to tip on the original price but we were all so unhappy we did not give our typical 20−25% tip. I wanted to give even less but my boyfriend was being nice. I will never bring guests here unless I want to give them a laugh at how horrible the service is. I don’t want to spend $ 150 bucks for a miserable experience.

This used to be my go-to place for sushi. Since the ownership change a few years ago the decline seems more and more noticeable each time I’ve gone in. Met a friend there last night for dinner. Walked in, and while there was not one other person in the dining room, wasn’t greeted and ended up seating ourselves. Service is lukewarm, with not a hint of friendliness from anyone. Food has declined as well. I think this was my last visit here.

This review is for the hibachi part of the restaurant. We went here for my daughter’s birthday, her request. It was our first time visiting Sakimura and we were very pleased. The food itself was very well-prepared, and the chef was delightful and silly and skilled. We all tried each other’s food and it was very good. I had the shrimp and scallops, our daughter had chicken, and my husband had steak. They were all served with veggies, rice, and noodles. It was a lot of food for the price. Our waitress was polite and attentive. Our daughter got a special birthday dessert(a really nice crème brûlée) on the house.

We came here with friends for hibachi and the food was great, the dining room comfortable and clean, and customer service was satisfactory, Service was a little slow, but It’s to be expected due to the nature of table-side cooking, so we overlooked that aspect and we enjoyed our cocktails while visiting with our friends, so it was not a big issue for us. All in all, we enjoyed our visit to the restaurant,

I have been a loyal fan of Sakimura Simsbury for 6 years, although the last two visits I have noticed a decline in service. After reading some of the previous reviews it seems Chef Tony, Jessica, Nicole and the rest of the original staff left, which would account for the negative reviews about service. I have to say, although the food is pricey, you are paying for the atmosphere and presentation, and I still think some of their special rolls are the best sushi I’ve had in the area. I really hope the new management team improves their routine and Sakimura rises back to it’s great reputation :)

Food is better than average but the service is inconsistent. Sushi is a bit pricey but always great, hibachi always a good show and fun for the group but can be very salty at times.

I went to this restaurant about a year ago with two family members. This is the most relaxed and beautiful hibachi restaurant I’ve been to. The decorations, chief and other workers were very friendly. I felt like i was home lol. Every clean and even the bathroom was very pretty with a very cool sink. BACKTOTHEFOOD: I included a picture of my meals. Sorry that the other one isn’t quite visible. My first meal filled me up so fast it was delicious, i also got a second meal since my dad bet $$$ that i couldnt finish it, but i did I had a very good time there!!!

Stop rushing people through the meals… holy smokes these folks have no class. The lady who owned this place moved to West Hartford and set up Murasaki in WH Center… this Simsbury spot still has amazing sushi but my God the staff are alienating the clientele here. I keep hearing this from friends who have been dining here since the 1990s. If this is meant to be high priced fast food buy an abandoned Dunkin Donuts shop and do take out sushi. You charge too much to be pulling this garbage.

When my friend and I first arrived here we had to wait several minutes before anyone approached us. Ten minutes after our arrival the host appeared and asked us to take a seat as he would be with us in a few minutes. He started serving tables and soon disappeared in the back. 20 minutes go by and we are stilling waiting; several servers had passed us but didn’t not ask if we needed help. My friend then asked if we could be seated. The server took us to the hibachi section and seated us. It took 5 minutes to get menus and then an additional 10 minutes for them to ask us what we would like to drink. At this point we walked out. I will not be returning to this location. They had very poor service.

The food is fantastic. Quite pricey, but great treat! The service isn’t always spectacular, but we deal with it because we love the food. Mind eraser roll and the angel roll are to die for! t

Been here several times over the years. Nice atmosphere — quality food but small expensive sushi. Had tuna tartar for the 1st time here tonight. Again, where’s the tuna? It was made with avocado and apples and some tuna in some sweet n sour pineapple sauce of some sort a never again for 15.50! Service was slow and they were not even that busy. Had to wait for waters and then all the food came out at once. App, salad, soup, sushi. Glad I had a groupon but still spent 85.00 for me and 2 kids. Won’t be back for sushi soon. Hibachi is pretty good though.

Um, fuck this place and their overpriced sushi. After a long day, I wanted to enjoy a solo dinner somewhere nice and decided to cash in the living social I purchased for Sakimura a while ago. Before driving all the way to Simsbury during rush hour, I checked the fine print to make sure there want some«minimum party of 2» thing, and there wasn’t. But when I arrived and mentioned I was using a living social, the manager came out to tell me that there was a minimum of 2. And naturally, an argument ensued. Basically, he did not care that this stipulation was not mentioned in the fine print and absolutely refused to honor it. He told me I could get a refund for the voucher. I incredulously asked if he would really rather issue a refund than keep a customer, and apparently he did. There was not even a hint of kindness in the way he spoke to me. Last year, I had a similar situation at another restaurant, where they weren’t going to honor my groupon/whatever because of some stipulation that wasn’t mentioned upfront. Know what they did? Honored it anyway, and gave me a coupon to come back. That’s how you do it, folks. Luckily, there are plenty of delicious sushi spots in the area, with nice people working there.

Had dinner here tonight. The dining room was about half full with a broad mix of couples, and families with kids. There was also a big happy party in the hibachi room to the right of the main dining room. We also noticed a constant stream of take-out customers coming in for their bags of to go food. We ordered 3 dinners, a tempura and teriyaki salmon box($ 22), a spicy roll combo($ 17), and a roll combo($ 15). All of our meals came with a miso soup and a green salad with the usual sesame soy dressings. The salad was great –the lettuce was ice cold and very refreshing. Everyone devoured their food. The sushi was exceptional –my spicy rolls were 6 each of tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. My only complaint was they weren’t spicy. I know spice is a personal thing, but I’m telling you, they were tamely lame. Still good, but not too spicy. The roll combo had 6 each of California, tuna and salmon. My son’s salmon box had a nice slab of teriyaki salmon, rice, tempura shrimp and vegetables, some sort of spherical starch(potatoes?) and fresh fruit(orange slices and lychees). Service? Eh, could have been better. Could have been nicer. Pet peeve– they charge for a soft drink refill. In an expensive place like this that’s feels like a rip-off.
