Apex Windows Cleaning

Apex has cleaned the windows inside and out for a couple years now. They are on time, very thorough and pleasant to deal with.
Their men are polite and professional. Accessing our unit and windows is complicated but they never complain.
Our windows are over 30 years old. They offer a deoxidizing and scraping service for about 25% more. We had it done this year and were very pleased with the results. The old windows are crystal clear again and we can enjoy our views of the city again.
I have used other services and had unsatisfactory results. These guys are very good and competitively priced.

I second the review. Apex Window Cleaning (PO Box 304, Winnetka, IL) have been irresponsible in their scheduling, change the scheduled dates, not honest about their commitment. I have used them for 3 years, work has been fine, but due to recent disorganization and frustration with their scheduling, I will not use them again. They do not respond to phone calls, cancel appointments, and cannot be relied on.

Please do not call this company for window cleaning or painting. They are horrible to work with, and my experience has been completely frustrating and disappointing. I first called Apex in May (2013) to have our windows washed. The technician came and did all the windows, but not the storm windows. He said that it made more sense to leave them in the garage for the spring and summer, and that Apex would come back in the Fall to clean and reinstall them. Like an idiot, I believed him. The work was prepaid.
I also used Apex to repaint the trim of our house. The same technician came back with another employee, and they got to work. They scraped the peeling paint off the wood, but did not sand it. Their paint job is messy and looks unprofessional. They didn’t use tarps, and when they were done there was white paint on our front path, in the driveway, on bushes near the house, on our back patio, on patio furniture, and on the greenhouse window of our kitchen. It’s a mess. I asked the technician to clean up the paint that had splattered everywhere, but he never did.
In late October I called Apex to schedule a time for them to come clean and reinstall the storm windows. On November 1 I got this email:
«I just wanted to follow up with you per our conversation earlier this week. I am looking to see if I can send a technician on Monday if you are available. If not, the next available is that weekend, the 9^th.
Please let me know what works for you.

I replied the same day:
«Hi Bridgette,
Monday will work if the technician can come after 1pm. If not, we will go with the 9^th. Let me know which one it will be.

There was no further communication until November 6, when I got this email:
«I wanted to touch base with you and let you know what is happening here on our end.
Most of the guys are on a project that is going to keep them busy until the 15^th, at a minimum.
Until then, they might be working on Saturdays only. Would you like me to schedule you for a Saturday or would the week of the 18^th work better for you?

November 8:
«I am sorry but the technician that I was going to send to do the touch up work for you this Saturday is unavailable.
Can you please send me your availability for next week?

«Good Morning Marie,
I am waiting for the guys to get back with me so I could make the schedule for next week, as soon as I do I’ll let you know.
Their project has been extended a few more extra days and into early next week because of the incremental weather we’ve been having.
Sorry for the delays, it will be sometime toward the end of the week next week that I could have someone come and finish up the work for you. Will let you know asap

«That’s pretty late, Bridgette, considering that I first called Apex about this at least two weeks ago. By the time the job is done it will have been close to four weeks. Is it not possible to take someone from the other job to do a few hours of work at our house? I need an absolute confirmation for the first available time possible. If it is not soon enough, I will have to call another company. I understand that this is not your fault — you can’t change the workload or the number of people employed, but I’m getting pretty frustrated.»
Apex responded on November 15:
«That’s ok Marie, I understand and that is why I’ve tried to remain closely in contact with you to let you know what is happening here on our end.
I am certainly doing the best I can to send someone to finish the work that was not completed.
I have another meeting this afternoon with the crew and will have a final finish date on the completed project.
And as soon as the opportunity becomes available, I will take a guy from the project and send him over.

I didn’t hear anything after that, so on November 20 I sent this:
«Bridgette,
At this point I suspect that I will have to hire another company to finish what I pre-​paid Apex to do. Apex can either send someone here by Friday to finish the job (clean and install the storm windows), or reimburse me for the part of the job that included cleaning and reinstalling the storm windows.
Let me know which one it will be. I am happy to accept reimbursement and not work with Apex again.»
Today is November 26 and I still haven’t heard anything. I just scheduled the work to be done by another company, which I should have done in October.
