Best Buy

this looked at frist glance small… but when I needed help with something the staff came through. Alot of these have changed since I used to work for Best Buy back in the day… but I am sure the sales ideaology is the same.
The cashier was fast and it made my sales painless and quick… I was buying an emergency phone battery as my phone was on the verge on dying and I was in Lake Villa coming from Chicago. Always check to make sure the phone is charged when going somewhere far… I was driving from Chicago and I hadn’t plugged the charger in the socket completely.
Who felt stupid? This guy here.

Rather pointless to write a review on a store location that is closing. However, very little «must-​buy» specials going on here.

The reason why Best Buy is going out of business is obvious: they suck.
First off, the products are lame. They’re never very good, they always experience service issues.
To make it worse, the prices suck. The stuff is crap and they charge you out the nose for crap. I can go to
and get everything they have at Best Buy for much cheaper, with no taxes, and, by the way, since the reviews are right there– I can avoid the kind of crap Best Buy tries to pawn off to you as a «high quality television»
Third, the service at Best Buy sucks. Seriously, this brick and mortar store has customer service that pales in comparison to any online retailer’s phone bank. Wanna call this Best Buy to see if they have Kindles in stock? Forget about it. You’ll be on hold for 45 minutes until someone picks up the line and then coincidentally hangs up on you.
So is anyone confused why they’re going B-​K? I’m not. Forget this place. It blows. Try Radio Shack instead.

This Best Buy is located in the shopping center on the northeast corner of Skokie Blvd. and Golf Road, which is directly across the street from Old Orchard. There’s adequate off-​street parking in front of the store.
I’ve purchased several items from this store, including a TV and computer accessory items. In almost every purchase, something went wrong, which necessitated the need for customer service.
In past purchases, I learned the Best Buy web site available in-​store is different than the one you see from home/​work. I believe the in-​store web site is accessed through Best Buy’s Intranet – not the Internet. Be careful when checking prices.
On my most recent purchase, the posted price was one-​half of the price rung up at the register. A simple purchase took over 30-​minutes due to price checking, notifying department personnel of the error and getting a manager (s) to override the price error. The clerk apologized, but it was little solace for the inconvenience.
These stores are under a lot of pressure to perform and it shows.

Hate it. Can’t say it enough.
Can’t WAIT until Best Buy goes out of business!

I’m back with a much more conciliatory update.
Between the communication issues or the contradictions between what Best Buy’s order fulfillment systems show versus what’s actually happened, Best Buy actually did end up shipping my item in question out to me.
The unfortunate aspect is that this one item really was 1 out of 3 items that were part of the same order, and they all went together. But the 1 item in question was the main attraction. Unfortunately, I’ve proceeded to return and request refunds for the other 2 items.
Too many factors and players played roles in this one supposedly simple transaction that I don’t really know who’s really to blame for the mishaps of this transaction anymore. Is Store 334 at fault? Or any of the 5 CSR’s over the phone? Or the centralized order fulfillment system at corporate? Maybe this is a case for Guy Noir, Private Eye.
I’m giving this a 3-​star «A-​OK» rating only because, at minimum, I must give credit to Best Buy for satisfying their initial commitment to deliver everything, but only in the most screwed up, nonsensical, roundabout way.

These guys suck. The selection is overpriced and poor, the staff conditioned to annoy you when you’re not looking for them and to NOT be there when you are, and they card you for rated R movies… randomly. (Seriously, I bought Game of Thrones which has sex and nudity galore a few weeks ago and had no problems, then I tried to buy Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and couldn’t buy it without showing my ID. I’m 29 with gray in my hair and people call me ma’am all the time. There’s no need to card me like I’m buying cigarettes or tobacco. Oh, it’s «for the kids». Yeah, parents should just maybe parent instead of letting the store do it for them.)
is much, much better for electronics, and the reviewers are nerds so you kind of know if all the nerds are raving about something, it’s pretty awesome and will perform well.
If you need electronics «quickly» from a local store without waiting for them to be mailed to you, go to Micro Center in Chicago, or go to Fry’s all the way in Downer’s Grove. (Don’t go to Tiger Direct in Chicago; Micro Center is much better and is just across the street.)

I purchased a product and was assured that it would work. It didn’t.
I’ve now been on the phone for 30 minutes waiting to speak to someone. I don’t know why they don’t answer, it just rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings and rings.

So I went in to this store looking for a tablet. I had a very specific one in mind and a friend of mine had purchased it from the same store not too long ago. I went in and asked for it but they said they only had a 32g and that the 16g tablet i was looking for was not instock. I asked them to check again and then they told me that the 16g version had been discontinued. I found this hard to believe and the staff member I was speaking to asked a fellow coworker and he also agreed that it was discontinued. He asked if the 32g was ok but of course I refused to purchase it and came home. I returned home and checked the bestbuy site to see who would have it in stock. To my surprise the site said that this store did in fact have it. I then called the store asking for them to confirm that they had this in stock. I was put on hold and told that they do have many in stock and was asked if I wanted to hold one. I have never had such a odd experience at a best buy. Either the employee was trying to sell me the more expensive version of the product or he was incompetent. Whatever the case I was not happy at all by this experience and will probably go to a different store in the future.

+1 star for very helpful and knowledgeable staff in the Home Theatre department – we had great conversations with Moe, Kathleen and Phillip. They were all friendly and awesome!
UNFORTUNATELY, this Best Buy at Old Orchard only gets 2 stars total, because after we left the store with our Samsung TV, we were in for a major disappointment.
We bought the TV «open box”– meaning that it had been purchased before + returned within 30 days. The guarantee is that Best Buy had checked all the pieces out and made sure that everything was present and in working order.
What actually happened to us tonight was that the box is missing all 7 screws to mount the TV to the stand. There is no way to have the TV stand up, whatsoever. It couldn’t even work by leaning against a wall or anything – there is literally no way this TV can be set up.
We call the Old Orchard store, told them the problem, and they say they’ll look for extra screws. We explain we live closer to the Roosevelt store in South Loop, so can they check that store? Best Buy says sure, we’ll call you back.
An hour later, at 8:30pm (stores close at 9 pm), no one has responded to us. We call Old Orchard again, relay the problem again, and the staff person who answered the phone said «Oh, I don’t think we called…» Thanks, pal.
They take us off hold and say that they probably don’t have the screws, and Roosevelt store probably doesn’t have them either, because the screws are «proprietary» and they don’t keep them in stock.
They tell us we can go to a hardware store and try to buy screws that would work (but if they’re proprietary, then Samsung makes them for their products, and a hardware store might not even carry them!).
They also tell us we can return the product and get a new TV, but that we’d have to pay an additional $ 80 to make up for the return on the discounted open box item and purchase of the brand new TV.
What about this guarantee that you check the entire product and make sure that everything is inside? What a waste. We’re not shopping at Best Buy again due to this disappointment.

this is an update to my story on Best Buy… so I finally received my stove — but not without more problems! Turns out that at the time of delivery, the installers could not guarantee safety of the stove. I asked them why not — the installers indicated that one of the stove flames was just exploding upwards (shooting in all directions, instead of a controlled flame). He insisted that we disconnect that one stovetop and leave the other ones operable. We had to call Geek Squad (Best Buy’s repair team) to fix the NEW STOVE that we received! They did send someone the next day which was great, and the parts were repaired immediately. Best Buy did send us gift cards as an inconvenience to me, but it still does not resolve my complaint from the beginning: never an apology, never able to get things right the first time. I had to go and contact corporate (in Minnesota) to get someone to fix my problems because the ppl in the Skokie # 334 store just couldn’t handle it.

Wow! In reading the rest of the reviews– I feel like I went to an entirely different Best Buy altogether. For on my recent visit– everything went like clockwork and the service was outstanding.
We were on a two fold mission. First — to return a purchase, and secondly to look for a new notebook computer.
The return went quickly and smoothly. There was no line (and this was the week between Christmas and New Years so I was expecting the worst) and we were taken care of within seconds.
We then walked over to the computer area– and were directed to talk to Parth, computer guy extraordinaire. He was very patient in answering all of our questions and showing us all the options for the Notebook. The best part? I didn’t feel like I was only being shown the most expensive model– he actually suggested a different model that had an older operating system as my friend was all about speed and not necessarily all the «bells and whistles» that a more expensive model would offer.
While we were still in the «just looking» phase, we didn’t buy anything, but the service was great even though Parth knew we were not going to purchase anything on that day. When asked about whether he worked on commission or not– the answer was «no» but we know that when it comes time to buy– he is going to be our «go to» guy.
I’ve been to Best Buys all over the country. And this Skokie location is doing it right. If you’ve gone before and had poor service, I’d give it another shot. For the experience we had the other day was nothing short of terrific!

I went in here today to find a computer for my daughter. I was so impressed regarding the lack of knowledge of the support team. My questions were simple regarding the extras that come with a Toshiba laptop. Each question brought another person… no one could figure out how to upgrade a laptop.

Here’s an easy way to lose a star, in a few short steps:
Step 1: At Customer Service, create two lines: one for
pickups only, and another for returns, etc.
Step 2: Put large overhead signs over the registers indicating which is for
and which is for returns, etc.
Step 3: Place signs on line stanchions indicating which line is for
and which is for returns, etc.
Step 4 (stay with me): When customers follow the signs and stand in line for the register they need, go ahead and disregard that and just take customers from one line exclusively. When the single customer in the
line asks you, the person at the alleged
register, whether your register is in fact for
pickups, tell said customer «Well it’s for either» and go about accepting a return. When said customer politely points out that she’s been waiting in this line for the purpose indicated by all the signage, do nothing. When said customer joins other line, taking her place behind all the people she watched come in 10 minutes ago, grab another employee to open a register and point out to him the person who’d been waiting and should be helped first, except make sure to point out the wrong person. Bingo!
I think this girl’s got a future at the DMV…

I have called this store five times and cannot get a live person on the line to see if they have an item in stock. why o why do you make me suffer so much?

I used to work at this store. Lets just say that the quality and the staff significantly went down hill since the new GM started working there.
The biggest problem here is constant, non-​stop talk about budget and how we are not hitting them which causes employees to make stupid sales, rush with customers or just not care because a department is 50% to budget for the month. (Yes, they have daily budgets, daily meetings about them and how you can turn a $ 20 sale to an $ 800 one. All retailers do, don’t act surprised.)
There are some good Blue Shirts and Geeks who work there, I hope they can outlast the tyranny of Satish, who is an asshole.

OMG-​this is just the worst store… went there on a freezing cold night (one of the coldest in Chicago weather history) to buy a desperately needed computer, as ours had just crashed.
My senior is in the middle of finals, and I am taking an online class… so we needed something fast.
I was waited on by a young man whom I will call H. I bought a floor model computer (it was the only one there that fit our specs… a lousy selection!), and took it home (with no box provided, so that was fun getting it to my car!)
Got home and hooked it up, and Lo and Behold, it was locked and needed to be cleared of all the promo stuff the Best Buy had put on there, to show it off to customers, when it was a floor model.
After making four calls to Best Buy (they hung up on me twice) I learned that I would need to bring the computer back to have it cleared of their junk. The manager refused to send out one of their techs (Geek Squad, who go to peoples homes) the next day, which would have been a reasonable thing to do.
The next day I disconnected it and hauled it in in 10 below zero weather. The manager on duty, Mark, simply said «Mistakes are made». I have already ordered what I need from Amazon, and will NEVER shop here again… I will go to ABT for any electronics I might need, or order online.
One more thing… my local Panera does a far, far better job that this Best Buy in helping customers, being polite… perhaps Best Buy (if they survive this current economic climate) could send their employees to Panera to observe how to deal with customers!

I do not even have the patience to write about my entire disaster story I had. I will just say that I had to pay $ 50 to have my window fixed at the dealership due to a bad install.

This Best Buy always has what I am looking for! It’s always well stocked for the most part and if they are out they usually restock pretty quick. I have always had one grief about this location, as with alot of Best Buys. UNDERSTAFFED! Especially yesterday! Wow, and it was late, around 7:30! There are 8 checkout lines… and only TWO open with a line forming down the store aisle??? What the heck! That is uncalled for especially yesterday being the biggest return day!
I like this location, but when i see uncalled for lines like that i throw my cd’s and dvd’s on the cloest shelf and leave! I saw alot of others doing the same!
Pay some more little guys in the blue polo shirts… pay them time and a half, do something… no need for those types of lines!!!
It’s the holiday season Best Buy… wake the F up!!!

This store is either overstaffed or understaffed. I went there on a saturday afternoon to help a friend pick a digital camera. She and I were approached at least 4 times in a 7 minute period, not exaggerating.
I’ve been there on a super busy day when it’s impossible to find someone to help you. The cell phone booth is always crowded and there’s only one person working there.
The only reason I go to this Best Buy is because it’s the closest one to me.
