When I saw the menu the prices were very reasonable, but then I saw cash only. So make sure you have cash. I ordered two Bombay bowls and an order of the chicken tikka masala as well as naan. The very nice woman explained that may be too much food so i agreed and settled for the bowls and naan. When we got the food, it was nostalgia for me, I felt like I was eating at a relatives house. Delicious and rich. I ask for mine to be spicy and it was a gentle heat with good flavor. I still considered ordering more food but then realized towards the end of my bowl that it would have been too much. Over all the atmosphere was very nice, and where else would tell you not to order food? They older couples who seemed to be the owners were very kind and genuinely nice. Would recommend highly!

Decided to try this place out. Ordered the paneer tikka masala and it was very strange, weird color too. I think it was a little off for Indian and needed more flavor and spice. The people who work there are very nice though. Pakora app was really good!

A great family restaurant run by a Pakistani couple. I have known«Aunty» for a long time and her food never disappoints. «Uncle» is a fun character who loves sharing his stories and memories about their married adventures. The place maybe a bit small but the hospitality inside definitely compensates for it. If you are new to Indian/Pakistani food, I would recommend you trying the Kati rolls(chicken). If you have tried chicken tikka masala before, go with chicken makhni and some naans, you can’t beat that there honestly! Also try out the lamb chops, huge in size for a very decent price. Always another great option would be chicken and lamb over with white sauce! Make sure you add a lot of white sauce to all your food!!! Overall this place is a gem with good quality and great service! If you are from the area, you will be bound to be back over and over at this spot :)

All too often it seems that food is just a commodity that we eat in a rush and take for granted. The clay oven makes food to be savored. They are very accommodating(I can’t have wheat) and happy to explain what everything is. The woman who works there greets everyone so warmly and it’s obvious she loves cooking for people and the food reflects it. I leave there feeling like my aunt prepared my meal. Love this place!

I was very surprised to stumble into this place. Very delicious food, full of flavor and Indian spices. Fairly priced, well actually really cheap with huge portions. The owner was really nice explaining most of the dishes as it was really hard to choose with so many great options available. I will definitely be back in the near future and this might be a go to place for me moving forward.

Don’t let the small storefront deceive you this is one of the best places to eat around. The food is made to order and is flavorful and delicious.

This is a very yummy place. The food is incredibly flavorful and fresh, the owners are really sweet, the prices seriously cannot be beat, and, best of all, they deliver(through GrabMyGrub — took me a while to figure out what that site is as I had never heard of it previously). But, you have to be aware of a few things. They make all of the food right when you order it, as you might imagine this takes time. Sometimes a LOT of time(30min-1hr), but it’s well worth it. Just don’t go if you are in a rush. Order pick up or delivery. And, it’s cash only. However if you order delivery you can pay with card. This is one of those amazing ‘hole in the wall’ places that once you find out about it, you will be going there, and going there often…

We have explored 80% of Inidian cuisine in Nassau and Suffolk County. If you are in the mood for above average, mouth watering, extremely delicious spicy dishes in an establishment that is not pretentious and just really soothes the soul then you will be back. The owners are extremely hospitable and even the cooks said hello.

We’ve followed Mrs. H from her food truck, to her restaurant in Selden, and now to The Clay Oven. Her food is worth traveling for! Not only is Mrs. H incredibly hardworking and hospitable(and somehow always remembers us), but her food never disappoints. The prices are so reasonable and the menu has something for everyone. I personally love the chicken over rice, lamb and goat dishes, as well as the Bombay bowls. Honestly, you can’t go wrong here. You can certainly eat in, but keep in mind it’s a smaller space and not a fancy one(which to me is not a problem, but to each their own). If you plan on taking out I’d recommend calling ahead and placing your order as the food is fresh and cooked to order. Keep in mind it is CASHONLY. I’d recommend this restaurant to anyone — go and try something new!

I needed a place like this in my life and so glad I found it! The chicken and rice is better than the Halla food in NYC. Very affordable and tasty! They like when you call your order in ahead of time so you don’t wait as long. The owner and staff are so sweet and polite. Will be back a lot! Cash Only

First of all the owners are the best people I’ve ever met. This was my first time at their restaurant and they made me feel like I’ve been coming here since a long time. They are the friendliest people ever. Now coming to food, it was amazing, like each and everything starting from starters to main course and desserts. Their taste was homely. Best food I had in a very long time. In short this restaurant is perfect

I’ll start out with that we came here for the food. The eating area lacks the home feeling that their previous location(time out to eat) had, specifically due to the significantly smaller footprint and now use-of plastic plates and utensils. Service was friendly but a bit slow with no other patrons to compete against. I ordered a bombay bowl with chicken and spicy red sauce(later which I found out is just Sriracha) and a vegetable samosa. Both the samosa and bombay bowl were very delicious. Our group also ordered the cheese naan, chicken karahi, chicken taki rolls — all of which received positive reviews. Overall, we were very happy with the food. We also noticed that the express menu has gone up from $ 6 to $ 7.

Delicious food and when other reviewers state that the owners are incredibly nice, they’re not joking. They go above and beyond for their guests and are the reason I’ll never go elsewhere. Food is definitely made with love, and the menu has great variety. I ordered the chicken makhani(butter chicken) and was not disappointed– definitely give it a try! The Bombay bowls look delicious as well. Only downside you’ll want to note is that they’re cash only. But in the grand scheme of things, they’re so good that it doesn’t affect my rating.

What happened to this place? Was so good not too long ago. My last 2 visits were total disappointments. My dishes were botched completely. Ordered beef Bombay bowl got chicken instead. Next time I ordered the Bombay bowl I ordered lentils and got chick peas, and now tomato slices(???). Someone has no idea what they are doing. The same dish is different every time. How insulting that this guy cooking thinks it’s okay to throw anything together and just expect people to not notice. Maybe put your phone down. The mixed vegetable dish is nothing but stop n shop frozen carrots peas and string beans. Remember that weird mixed vegetable concoction you used to get in grade school? That’s what it reminded me of. Not sure if I’m coming back.

Food with lot of flavor from India/Pakistan/Mediterranean region. I have been to this place couple of times now. it’s ideal for take out or quick lunch out there The prices are reasonable. Lot of options in chicken and lamb and goat. Some options for vegetarian too. Food quantity is very good for the price. Staff is very friendly and helpful and attentive in providing good service It’s cash only. For that reason giving 4 stars. Overall a great experience.

Delicious new addition to the Smithtown-Commack area that serves up burn your face off hot Indian and Pakistani cuisine. Chicken makhni immediately exploded into mouth like a firecracker. The Bombay bowl with ground chicken was equally an inferno. If you can handle the heat, the food is delicious and tasted very fresh. I will definitely return after loading up on Immodium. It’s best for take out. The dining room only holds about 16 people and is suffocatingly hot. The staff were very helpful though. Just note that it is cash only but prices are very cheap. Dinner for two of us with drinks was only $ 22 which is an awesome bargain! Hopefully, this place sticks around for a long time.

Sometimes great things come in small packages. Now this was an unexpected, yet welcomed addition to our Smithtown’s «restaurant row» which lines Jericho Turnpike. We really had no Indian/Pakistani joints in this area to speak of(closest being the Curry Club in Setauket), so I was psyched when The Clay oven took up shop here. Situated in a tiny little strip of stores,(one can easily miss this place), lies a diamond in the rough serving up some pretty damned good tasting Indian food at ridiculously cheap prices. I almost hate to do a review because I want to keep this place all to myself… buuuut that would be selfish of me and they deserve tremendous amounts of success. The people that run this place,(also of «The Time Out Restaurant» in Selden), are extremely accommodating and pleasant. I placed a take out order last night over the phone and the lovely woman who took my order actually called me be back to ask what kind of spice level I liked! Talk about customer service. A couple of my favorite spicy goodness here include their Tandoori special, Chicken Tikka Boti(chicken cubes, yogurt, lemon, garlic, spices) [$ 7}, Palak Paneer(spinach, cheese cubes, herbs, spices) [$ 6], and Chicken Kati Rolls(which is like an Indian burrito) [$ 6 for 2HUGE rolls]. Throw in an order of fresh Naan for 2 bucks and EACH one of these dishes can easily feed 2 people,(each come with rice), so you can imagine my dismay when the first time ordering here, I ordered all of the above for 2 people. I had enough food for 5 people! Beware, it’s very easy to over order here. A few other notable points: they only accept cash as of this writing; they do have a dine in area, however it can only probably comfortably accommodate 8 – 10 people max(more of a take-out vibe going on here), oh and most importantly, mention Unilocal and a complimentary Mango Lassie yogurt drink is yours which is high on the yummy scale! I highly recommend The Clay Oven for a delicious quick meal where your buck goes a very long way…
