Meh. I guess this is a case of you get what you pay for. If you’re looking for a $ 35 trim, by all means have at it. If though, you are looking for a new style, some cutting edge scissor work and/or something new, this is not your place. They are nice. They give you an awesome massage with your shampoo. They don’t oversell the products. But when presented with a request for guidance about what to do with your hair, they seem confused & revert back to the same trim they gave you previously. It’s a good trim. It’s just not an awesome cut.

It’s really hard to trust someone with your hair… It’s your hair. it’s the first thing people notice about you. With that said. I will never. ever. EVER go any where else. I had my hair colored and cut about a week ago by Norman. I don’t know how to describe it… It’s kinda like the day after you buy a car you really love, you wake up the next morning excited and hope it wasn’t a dream … It wasn’t. I wake up each day in disbelief this is actually my hair. The girls at work are still stopping me mid sentences and say. and I quote, «I’m sorry, I don’t mean to stare, but I’m in love with your hair. Girl, that color!»(it’s a beautiful dark, dark red) Also, he didn’t attempt to sell me anything. That is a huge change from most other salons. And the neck and head massage… awesome… Norman is super nice and knows exactly what he is doing. and that’s magic.

There is very little if any negative I can say about this salon so I gave it 5 stars. Having received plain bad to supremely excellent styles in the 23 years I have been going to salons, I put Fuse on the top of the list for excellence. Many stylists aren’t trained well, have very little passion for what they do or simply think they know all there is to know about hair and will give you a mediocre or bad cut. Norman(owner, head stylist) has many years of experience under his belt(he was even an instructor for a while) but is open to learning new things and understands that you never stop learning techniques in the hair business. He has never given me a bad cut/style! My hair has been just about every color in the rainbow from red to lilac, platinum blonde to deep brown. Never have I left with the sinking feeling you get from getting a bad do. As a matter of fact, having moved 35 miles away from Fuse and testing out local stylists & being disappointed, I have decided make the 70 mile round trip drive for Norman or Christy to cut, color and style my hair. Because it is worth it. I am female and have hair that shouldn’t be difficult to cut. It is fine, but I have TONS of it and there is enough wave to respond well to styling and products. Honestly a stylists dream. Yet, several stylists(even other Paul Mitchell Focus salons) have given me AWFUL hair cuts! I wear my hair short as a pixie but occasionally grow out my bangs and top more towards a short/cropped bob. Neither style should be difficult and I am not a super picky client but other stylists have left me unimpressed or even sick. You can’t cut more to fix a bad pixie! A good stylist takes time to understand your styling concerns and needs and learns your hair and cuts accordingly. Every person is not the same and at Fuse they realize this. Norman cuts my hair with confidence and ease. I have never had cut marks(he is the KING at texturing), ridges, lopsidedness or bad difficult spots. While he may do his best to convince you of what he feels is best for your face, hair, etc., he will listen to your requests as well. Their customer service is top notch too. They serve hot and cold drinks, have a WONDERFUL separate wash house for a relaxing experience and head massage and the stations are spaced out enough to give you a sense of privacy. This is the only salon I have seen in middle TN that has a dedicated color bar with separate seating for color treatments. It allows the stylists to work like artists which means great results for you. Norman is seriously a color expert. He understand the science of color techniques with each persons hair as well as details such as why certain shampoos and conditioners need to be used following certain treatments or how to correct bad color as I have seen him do it for many new clients who needed saved from a box or a stylist gone wrong. I highly recommend Fuse salon but suggest you pre-book. Their pricing is better than fair for the quality and experience. I just wish I could move Smyrna to Franklin. For the high quality service and atmosphere you get, you’d pay legit nearly double in Green Hills or Brentwood. Don’t let the humble exterior prevent you from booking. I’m pretty certain you’ll be happy if you appreciate great hair. They also have a private room for waxing and offer many(but not all) waxing services at reasonable prices too. Although their website is currently down, you can call for pricing or even have their menu emailed to you. And a REALLY handy side point but Norman and Christy are GREAT with kids. They have been cutting my son’s hair since he was 1 year old.
