Attention Caribbean Entrepreneurs: We are in dyin’ need of a Caribbean Mom and Pop’s spot in Cobb County. Then again, in all of Atlanta. Overpriced, not that good. Satisfied urgent taste buds at the time = Chris’ Caribbean Café. What caribbean food spot you know shuts down hours before midnight? Never would happen in South Florida or in NY area. Never ever ever ever, not even a thought. And by the way Chris’ Caribbean, your rice and peas suck! Yes, they do. Oxtail can use some improvement, not cool. Overall grade — D+

This place has just been«okay» for me. It’s a really small restaurant, so probably more appropriate for take-out. The food is decent-to-good — unfortunately, it’s just not«really good.» The service can be painfully slow, even when it’s not full. That’s not surprising given that at one point when I was there the waitress/server appeared to be on the phone(using her bluetooth). She was nice, just not super attentive — she didn’t have a sense of urgency(which is nice to see when I’m hungry or ready to go). That said, I’ll probably return when I have the urge for some rice and peas and plantains.

It’s nice to find a restaurant that isn’t afraid to light up your GI system. I ordered some food to go one night when we were having company. Maybe not the best decision considering we had never eaten there before, but hey, carpe diem. Ordered the jerk shrimp, jerk chicken, Cuban lime chicken, and chicken soup. The food was fantastically seasoned, and none lacked a full body of flavor. Everything is made from scratch from fresh ingredients. Even the cole slaw was a treat. Even though my order was packed in styrofoam containers, the spectrum of colors in the entrees made it so very appetizing. Will definitely go back for a sit-down. Word of caution, that jerk shrimp ripped through my system like the tasmanian devil. But it was so good going down, no regrets. The only thing that detracts from the place is the atmosphere. I would never go for a classy night out, as the layout is more arranged for take-out orders. The seating seems to be more of a place for people to wait while their food is prepared. And the cashier is all the way in the back, so it would be hard to find a seat where you weren’t getting a ton of traffic or a weathery blast from the door. I hope Chris sees some good business in this(new?) location. Expanding the restaurant would definitely be a plus, as there’s little room for improvement on the menu!
