Steak ‘n Shake

There’s more wait staff here hanging out and goofing off than customers in the seats. More like a personal hangout for them rather than a place of business. Took forever to be waited on. Maybe one or two people actually working. I don’t expect this place to stay open much longer after the Freddy’s opens a mile up the road.

The food was great but the services and what means the most in the restaurant I ordered my food and waited almost 20 mins for it to come out. Then when I got my food I asked about my milkshake and she said «oh I forgot sorry» just horrible.

Wow. To begin with, the restaurant was dirty– bathrooms, floor, table tops. My party included two couples and an infant, and we visited most recently in a Sunday at lunch. I requested a highchair to use to house my infant carrier and place at the end of our booth. I was as told by my waitress that the chair, «wouldn’t work» for this situation. I told her that I’d already looked at the chair and knew it would be fine, but she argued with me and eventually said that she’d hate to knock it over if I chose to use the highchair. It made me wonder how she manages to avoid toppling then over when older children are seated in high chairs around the restaurant…
Next, we ordered and I chose the «sliders» and added guacamole. What arrived were three small burgers and a tiny handful of fries. I took off the bun to add mustard and found three different patties, which might sound like a sign of the hand-​crafted nature of the burger-​and probably was, but not to the benefit of the meal’s quality. One of the patties was so thin, it had a lace-​like quality. Like crunchy meat crumbles strung together.
To boot, there was no changing table in the men’s restroom.

The food was great however, service is TERRIBLY SLOW! Took half an hour for a simple milk shake!

I really wish I could give this please zero stars. The customer service there was absolutely horrible. Me and a group of 15 decided to go there for a late dinner after a movie. We had some people of our party go there ahead of us to reserve seats. 15 minutes later when we showed up they were still waiting to be seated. The waiters looked at us and looked away. No one acknowledged that we had arrived or had told us that there would be seats available in a couple of minutes. But still we waited with two other groups of people that had showed up after us. The waiters looked and then looked away they want to boat their own business taking care of the customers that were already seated and did not say one word to us. We decided to leave the restaurant and go to IHOP down the street which provided us with excellent service. The waitress received a very hefty tip from us. Word of advice: the IHOP from that Steak and Shake location is only five minutes away I suggest you go there

Had to wait for about 10mins after we got seated before our order was taken, Food was pricy for just Burgers and Fries. Wait staff was nice but slow to our needs. This was not the first time we have eaten here just the first time with slow service. I will try again then post new review.

The only reason I gave it one star is for my server. Carlos was great but the only problem was that my chicken was raw! The fucking manager didn’t do shit, I got the same chicken back and still paid full price. Never coming back …

I would rather take a swift kick to the my man parts than eat here again.
Not even sure where to start but here it goes …
1) parking is always crowded tight
2) there is always a wait which I don’t understand. I think it’s because people are trying to save money and this place serves cheap food made even cheaper with coupons
3) the floor is always greasy and you slide to your table.
4) ice cold or steaming hot. Never in between.
5) I have not had an order served the way I ordered it yet
6) the food is pretty much down right nasty
7) clean the bathrooms every now and then
8) grease drips from most of the food
I ordered bean-​less chili and it did not come in a cup or even a bow but a ramekin. It was like 3 spoons of chili for $ 2.50.
Their saving grace was that my fries were hot and fresh and that the server made an effort to be decent at his job.

I have always loved the food here and never had many issues… But hopefully management sees this… Get your employees off the cell phones… It’s rude when I can see three out of four people on them and they have to ask what I am waiting for and if I have paid… But the person in the drive through not on her phone was lovely. Didn’t get her name. But she had black hair that faded to red.

First time here for breakfast. The food was good, the service was OK. My coffee cup was only refilled once because the server did not check on us often… The store was not busy. I was not impressed with the service, but the food was great.

Nicko was an awesome waiter! He was extremely busy and very pleasant. Food was good.

Well, let me start by saying that the service here is extremely slow, whether it’s to-​go or sit down. The waiters and waitresses are typically nice but it’s just not the place to go when you’re in a rush.
Today I ordered 1 vanilla milkshake and it took over 15 minutes to make a vanilla shake– the simplest shake to possibly make. In fact, my mom and I ordered 1^st and people behind us received their SHAKES and MEALS before us. Just one shake, people. That’s all I asked for. When we complained the lady gave us extreme attitude just as she did when we ordered in the first place. NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE.

Good service, food was great. Prices are so reasonable. Even when they’re busy, they are consistently a good place for burgers and breakfast!

Food is always fairly good, but the service is horrible and makes you not want to come back. Sign at door tells you to wait to be seated and you stand there with all the employees just walking by looking at you. After being seated it takes for ever to be waited on. Food came fast and tasted good, but here I sit waiting on my check…
I would understand this if they were busy, but they are not!

The service in these places is usually bad when they are busy. I’ve been to this location quite a few times, and it has ranged from slow to decent. This time, it was nonexistent. We sat while table after table around us was attended to and served, all the while getting no service.
Tried to flag someone down to only be blatantly ignored. After twenty minutes of sitting and sitting, I had had enough, and we left. Told the server and some poor sap waiting to get a table that ours was free since no one wanted to wait on us, and she didn’t seem to care much.
If my kids had not been set on eating there, we would have just left. As it was, we went through the drive thru, where the service was friendly and quick.
Never coming back here, at least not dine in.

Extremely slow drive thru. Every time I’ve gone fries have been cold and lacking salt. I only come here because I’m pregnant and crave their burgers sometimes. I don’t see myself eating here after baby, it’s the worse one I’ve been to.

We were incredibly disappointed to learn that they changed their policy changed so that IF YOU ARE PAYING BY CREDIT/​DEBIT CARD they charged the underpaid employees the service charge that they should be paying themselves. So, if paying by card (as most of us have in the 21^st century credit mindset). Please refrain from adding the tip (gratuity). Please carry a little cash to save the poor workers from the agony of working for less then minimum wage.
The food was okay, the service was exemplary, but the short changed wait person took my appetite away.

HORRIBLE SERVICE. I was trying to go through the drive thru at about 12:20 AM, and was waiting at the speaker box for at least 7 minutes, and nothing… I decided to drive up to the window, trying to wave someone down, even shined an SOS light from my iphone, and even attempted honking, to get someone’s attention… only to see a headset sitting by the cash register.
I decided to call the restaurant from my car and asked to speak with a manager. MARY asked how should could help me… I told her my the situation, and she said the drive thru was broken. I asked why there wasn’t a sign, she said, «I just found out it was broken, you have a ‘bless-​ed’ night.» and hung up on me.
I then went inside and asked to speak with MARY. She walks up to me, and I tell her «I’m the person you just hung up on.» Immediately she has a horrific attitude. She said, «I couldn’t put a sign up I just found out it was broken, I’m sorry. What else do you want me to do?» I told her I wanted her to fix the situation. I then asked her when did she find out when it was broken, and she replied with «when you called and told me!» —- really? So I guess all of the people before me at the drive thru did not catch her attention, although the drive thru headset was just sitting there in plain sight.
The attitude of MARY, starts to increase to a disgusting, unprofessional, rude, and down right ghetto disgrace of a human, unlike that of what any ‘manager’ of a business. A server asked how she may help me, and MARY said to her «No! Walk away.» –refusing my service, with no right. MARY then said to me, in a comical demeanor, as if she were making fun of me, «You’re really sweet, you know that? Really sweet. Now you have a ‘bless-​ed’ night.» At that point I asked for her name, and called the customer service line.
I walked out of the store, with no purchased items. I will never return to that location, as long as MARY is part of the staff. She is no role model for any employee there, and doesn’t have the first idea of the definition of customer service.

I’ve been coming to this Steak & Shake since I was a little kid; it’s an ordinary, familiar part of my hometown.
I have always appreciated the food here. The burgers are first-​rate, cooked well with a huge variety of toppings and styles. I also LOVE the shoe-​string fries! They’re different than fast food fries and never disappoint. I am especially into the recent additions to their menu — seasoned fries! They have Parmesan & Herb — DELICIOUS.
Steak & Shake is famous for their shakes; I understand why! They have SUCH a wide selection with several really interesting and daring flavors! They are always prepared well and taste great! However, be prepared to wait to receive yours; the service for shakes is known for being slower than anyone would have liked.
Prices are very affordable here. They have many Steakburger meals for under $ 4! Also, the server almost always perfects my check regardless of how many items I may add inconveniently to him/​her.
Overall, the quality of the food compensates well for the sometimes-​mediocre service. The reason I deduct one star is because a lot of the wait and service staff can be rude and/​or unprofessional. Also, the service can be uncomfortably slow, though this goes without saying because the location is almost always full of families and large parties (heads up!). The quality of the service, however, does not affect the quality of the food.
I love this place because I am a local and will always return despite the sometimes-​uncomfortable service.

Came here for my little niece’s birthday party. Menu’s were sticky and had a black goo on them. I was immediately turned off. My dad ordered coffee and the waitress had to change the cups 2 times because there were lipstick on the cups.
The food came out all at disproportionate times. Overall, the this place was disgusting, and service was mediocre. I will definitely not come back. The only thing that relatively saved this place was the burgers — they were actually quite good!
