Kabuki used to be our favorite sushi spot, we’ve been patrons for 5+years but I can no longer recommend it. The last three times we’ve been the sushi quality was sub par and the service was usual(slow and lacking). Hopefully the owner can turn it around but as of now, they have lost a longtime customer.

This is the worest japanese restaurant we’ve ever had. Waitress even added on 18% gratitude by herself and highlighted it… Tempura was deep fried with european beer batter, nothing close to any japanese cruisine.

Kabuki is definitely better then your run of the mill sushi restaurant, if even only a small step ahead of the pack. This shows when you get the fresh and amazing sushi rolls, which are rather large and great as a family meal option. The ambiance is okay, and I give them credit for doing what they can with the space given. The slow service is mainly because they are preparing each roll individually from scratch after you order, and orders can pile up during the lunch rush. However, if you can hold out until about two, the place is almost completely empty and service is quicker than usual. Nothing mind blowing, but nothing to sneeze at. Doesn’t deserve this low of an average rating, in my opinion.

With the low star rating I knew we were taking a chance, but we were really pleasantly surprised! The waitress was very sweet and attentive, so as far as service goes we had a good experience. We ordered 3 different rolls — spicy tuna, rainbow and tempura shrimp. All 3 were fresh and delicious! We are from LA and have experienced amazing sushi. Kabuki is a great option when craving sushi in Solvang! We will definitely be back.

The sushi was bland, the service here sucked the waitress was not helpful at all asking for a glass of water seemed a task for her. Then the added gratuity on the paycheck even sucked more I was like you did not deserve anything at all.

Been to Solvang many times, but felt like something different from the usual Scandinavian fare. Despite some hit or miss reviews, we gave it a shot. We had the Rainbow Roll(excellent) and the Kabuki Roll(very good) along with two of the eel sushi and washed it down with cold Asahi. The fish tasted fresh to us and the portions were ample. Service was great and our waitress was knowledgeable.

WORSTSUSHIRESTAURANT I have ever been to, please stay away from this place. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Horrible location, horrible menu, food has no flavor & decorations are terrible. There is no descriptions for the rolls. You have to ask the waitress or look at the tiny whiteboard on the wall. There wasn’t a single soul in the place on a beautiful 80 degrees day. I feel so sorry for the employees & whoever decides to try this place out. They need help.

Guys! To be honest, this place deserve 1 star. I and my boyfriend been here for over 1 hour already and still nothing to eat, no one pay attention to us, the old guy sitting next to us get mad too. He has to go find someone to ask why the heck it’s taking so long(we’re actually here right now) and I can see many customers around us are waiting and frustrating and upset as well. Seriously never come back here ever again. P/s: To you the restaurant, you guys better change the way you guys serve the customers, really bad customer service, even there’s no pictures in the menu, you are not successful.

Loved the Roll of sushi and for $ 5.99 !!! Great deal . A nice lady greeted us with a tray of very tasteful sushi, so we came back for early dinner. Wouldn’t know about this place as it’s hidden upstairs. so kudos to the lady and the tray !!! Loved it.

I have been a customer of this restaurant since before their location changed and all I can say now, is that they have been steadily going down hill. My most recent visit was awful. I ordered takeout. Not only did they leave out the freshwater eel sushi, many of the other items were bad. Do not order the green mussels. They were obviously bad and smelled like manure. The spicy scallop hand roll tasted like ammonia. The sashimi was mediocre at best. I’ll have to say the Godzilla roll is the only thing that is consistent. In previous visits, the service is typically awful. If you like sushi and other Japanese foods, don’t eat here. It will ruin your joy of eating it.

This place seemed quaint enough, located upstairs. They had the Happy Hour special for $ 5.99. Just wanted a quick bite and be on our way. We had the familiar chicken terriyaki with rice, salad, and soup. The salad was a bit too vinegary. We ordered the G Roll(cooked tuna, fried, with green onions), fried chicken balls, gyoza(do not order! waste of money, terrible), and California roll(just ok). The food was ok. I like the space, like eating in a gazebo. Saw some young ones, getting a big ice cream dish.

10÷11÷14 Before the wine festival we decided to base the belly and grab some sushi rolls. As we walked around we spotted this place and decided to give it a try. Interesting lil spot in this court area with other businesses. The staff was very friendly. She came and took our order. I got the shrimp tempura roll and the boo got the spicy tuna roll. We both got the miso soup. All were great. The only issue I had was the wait time. Rather lengthy for a simple order and it was not that many people in there. Overall a good experience. The setup and ambience was unique to say the least.

Number of people at our table: 5 Number of other tables with people at them: 4 Number of waiters/waitresses working: 1 Number of people whose orders she could remember without asking upon delivery: 0 Number of times she came to check on our table between delivering food and delivering the bill: 0 Number of «free refill» beverages she actually refilled: 0 Number(in ounces) of paper thin slices of beef on my $ 12 «steak teriyaki lunch special» plate: about 2.5 ounces Number of times she came to offer a fork to the member of our party who had never used chopstiks in her life: 0 Number of checks brought to the table of five clearly unrelated college students who are very obviously intending to pay seperately: 1 Number of checks she brought after we informed her we needed seperate checks: 1, for the whole table Number of times she refused to do seperate checks because they«don’t do that at lunch»: 4 Number of Managers On Duty to speak to a dissatisfied customer: 0 Oh, also, for funsies, they had a sign on the tables indicating that water will only be poured as a beverage on request out of an effort to conserve natural resources, accompanied by an image of a fish in a drinking glass? wtf? Obviously water is only served on request, as with ANY beverage… isn’t that how ordering food and drinks works? Plus, they have their menu on display facing the street downstairs in their building, and the same menu on display upstairs at the entrance to their restaurant. When you sit down, you are given a totally different menu with approximately 10 choices on it. You may not order from the advertised menu at lunch. A gentleman at the table next to us tried to order fried rice for lunch, an item that I saw on the dinner menu but which was not on the lunch menu, and the waitress refused and told him«we don’t have that». When we called her out on the fact that we needed seperate checks and it makes no sense that she«can’t do that», she immediately said«it’s not my fault» instead of simply apologizing and going and fixing the problem. The check was hand written, which means other than an absurd policy and a stringent refusal to bend that rule in favor of customer service, there was no ACTUAL reason it could not have been done. If the person seated next to me had not offered to take their credit card out and pay the whole bill for our table, I was ready to explain to the waitress that if I was not given my bill I would assume that meant the meal was free and I would leave without paying. I was furious. Good customer service should not be such an alien concept to so many people. That kind of thing drives me nuts. The food was average at best, the prices were far above reasonable, the service was pathetic, the location was not convenient(hidden in a remote corner of an awkward interior courtyard), the ambience was laughable and weird(clear plastic picnic table cloths on every table and a tile floor? is this a murder room?).

This sushi bar is tucked away in a corner upstairs within Frederik’s Court retail shopping center. From Alisal, you enter the courtyard, go left and up a short flight of stairs to get to Kabuki’s front door. The place wasn’t very busy on a Saturday night during Happy Hour, and we were seated right away. We opted to sit in the«patio» area, which is enclosed, with windows. The area was lit with Ikea pendant lamps and seating, an eclectic array of iron chairs. Happy hour menu selection and prices were decent. Portions left something to be desired, however, they made up for it in presentation and content quality. They really set the bar for veggie rolls here! The sashimi combo platter was a bit of a disappointment. $ 13.95 for the«platter» which consisted of 3 different types of fish(tuna, salmon and yellowtail) with 3 very measly pieces of each on a gigantic pile of spiralized daikon. Really nice ambiance in the courtyard outside at night. All in all, not an outstanding experience, yet not a bad one either.

If are absolutely must have sushi in this danish town then come on down. Relatively large menu option for everyone to pick from. I had yellowtail sashmi and a ahituna roll. Both decent grade fish with mediocre cutting technique. Overall pricing was comprable to other such sushi joints.

Worst sushi restaurant, ever. To start, the décor was odd and there was no sushi bar. The service was horrible. We waited for what seemed like forever to be asked for our order and then another wait to actually get our water. We were in town for one night and wanted a romantic meal… we got far from it. After eating, my boyfriend spent the rest of the night running from store to store getting Immodium and then Pepto Bismol. Needless to say, the entire vacation was ruined and I was sick for a week. Never go here.

Came here with the extended family to enjoy a Sunday lunch. This review represents only the owners of this establishment given that our food never came out after waiting for almost 2 hours. I realize that we are ordering sushi in a Danish themed town. Our group was forced to leave due to time restraints. After canceling our sushi order we were then yelled at by the owner /cook. The service staff did their best, but to be yelled at by the owner is UNACCEPTABLE! Shame on you Kabuki owners and never again. Stick to eating at nearby Solvang Restaurant.
