Great food good beer and nice people, but the loud televisions make me leave early. I go for the good conversations but cannot stand the sitcoms looping

Went here on Sunday for breakfast. What a pleasant surprise… much better than what we anticipated. I ordered the«Basic». Generous portions of bacon, country potatoes and perfectly prepared eggs with sourdough toast. Prices very reasonable. Server was very friendly and attentive. I’ll be coming back on my next visit.

Friendly bartender, a nice selection of cold beers, and horrible food. We were a group of 5 local chefs and bartenders who came in for a bite to eat. The pub’s bartender(who also was the only server that night) did an OK job juggling 6 tables and a half-full bar. She sure made up for the lousy food that came out of that kitchen. Old fry oil, stale several day old coleslaw, unseasoned microwaved pasta, overcooked chicken, and flavorless french dip. They weren’t serving steak that night because one of the cooks apparently said it smelled funky… and then they served us a buffalo chicken salad with mae ploy chili sauce, because the chef forgot to order hot sauce. Enjoy a cold one, but DON’T eat there!

We had lunch here after the«bottle your own» event at Too Good Winery on a Sunday afternoon. The food was very good. I had a veggie burger in a wrap. The philly cheese steak was huge. Lots of local wine available.

OMG, this was the worst food one can imagine. We were going to order the flatbread, but were told the pizza oven was broken and they were out of several items on the menu. So, my friend ordered the fish and chips; they arrived greasy, batter falling off, and undercooked. I ordered the pub club grilled chicken sandwich, equally as awful. The bread was not toasted evenly, and came out with brown and white consistensy, the chicken tasted frozen, and the chipolte mayo was atrocious. The bacon was burned but added to the sandwich anyway. The fries were obviously frozen and then thrown in grease and served soggy with alot of salt. You would have to drink a ton of wine to stomach this food. To add insult to injury, a patron sat at the bar, obviously drunk, and yelled four letter words throughout our entire meal. Since we and he were the only patrons, we found this offensive, but the bartender seemed obvilious to it. We both agreed never to return.

Decent beer list and on tap ales. Food was alright, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich but the pork wasn’t warm when it arrived at the table. Sunday, noon, maybe 10 patrons inside and the BBQ pit was smoking. I just don’t know why the meat wasn’t warm. The fries and service were good.

OMG Had the«Pub Club» and it was fantastic! Great service! Prices are reasonable and close to wineries. It was a great save for a long adventurous drive home from Tahoe! But be warned, you may end up in a food coma!

The people that write positive reviews about this place must have spent a lot of time at the wineries first. I had chicken curry that was delivered without chicken. They fixed it by throwing some grilled chicken on top. The whole meal tasted like nothing. We also had deep fried pickles, which were okay. My girlfriend had a chicken salad that didn’t have the items listed on the menu, so she had to ask for them. They also stopped playing Alice in Chains mid song to let the juke box play some techno garbage(a grevious offense in my opinion) and then started the music again. We will not be back to this place.

What a wonderful cozy place! It is worth the drive if you don’t live locally. And the owner is very community — minded. Thanks for the donation of 2 delicious entrees to our local school mission project! You do a mean 007 too! Lol Susan

We were extremely disappointed today after trying to stop in for a late lunch. The Pub was recommended by a couple local wineries and the food that came out looked great. Unfortunately, we waited for over an hour and watched other tables receive their food that arrived at least 30 minute after us before we had to walk out. I understand having many orders put in at the same time but when other tables are getting checked in on and receiving their orders that arrived after us, that is just not right.

Stopped here on a Sunday night near the end of a 2000mi roadtrip. Made it just in time for the trivia games to begin. Ultimately very fun, friendly staff, and a nice atmosphere. Burgers were quite good. Seems to be a proper pub! Glad we decided to stop even if we absolutely failed at the trivia challenge… Cheers, A Little Attitude

Had lunch here while wine tasting. Its a casual wood pub with a bar and some tables. The atmosphere is good, but I could tell a few locals were giving us the eye when we were laughing and having fun. Waitress was real nice. I had the French Dip, it seemed kinda small compared to my fellow diners who had the cheese-steak and club sandwich. The roast beef in the french dip was chewy and fatty in places. I don’t personally care for that at all. I like soft, fat free beef and this wasn’t. In the end we waited and waited after giving her our credit cards to pay. They never were able to get the register to work properly. Luckily we were able to round up the cash, pay and go.

Three of us had a late lunch here on a Friday after tasting wines for a couple of hours. The service was friendly, and the bar service was fast. Our food order, however, took quite a while to get to us. But what the heck… this place has a great selection of beers on tap including a couple of my favorite Sacramento area choices. Loved the bangers & mash with pints(2) of Rubicon IPA. My wife’s burger was overcooked, but her wine was good. Let’s keep this place open. There aren’t enough restaurant choices in the area, and after an afternoon of tasting wines… ya gotta have some food.

We were out wine tasting when we decided to get a early dinner. Not a lot of options in the area. I ordered the Beef Pastie and the crust was badly burned and the beef was dry. Why would any chef send that out? Why the 3 stars? The service is friendly, it has a nice cozy feel and everybody else in our party enjoyed what they had. Also, I was able to have a few slices of my wife’s pizza and it had a nice cracker crust that had a hint of parmesan and was perfectly cooked. I will give them another chance.

Save your money. What horrible food and service. We went on a Sunday afternoon. One table of four was there who had been served. Two in our party with one waitress working. Our beer took 15 minutes to arrive and our food another 45 minutes. Mind you it was not crowded. Our waitress never explained why there was a delay, she just avoided us. When the food arrived it was gross. My lunch date had the pizza which tasted like it was from frozen dough. Although ham was ordered you could barely find any. I had the chicken club which I could not eat. They said the bread was grilled sourdough but it looked and tasted like stale wonder bread. The bacon was under cooked. The salad tasted and looked old. The place was filthy and full of flys. Save your money and eat out of a garbage can instead. It would be an improvement

We came through Fair Play mid-week to visit a friend and thought we’d give the Pub a try. We had heard that it had decent fare and frankly it’s the only game for food unless you want to drive to Somerset. At 1:30 pm there were a couple small groups eating and hanging out. The atmosphere is casual and a baseball game was on the TV. The menu had a the specials printed on it. One was a meatloaf sandwich for $ 9. I got the Pub Club(chicken breast, bacon, tomato, Ortega green chile and chipotle aioli on toasted sourdough sliced bread. Side options include fries or potato salad. Add $ 1 for sweet potatoe fries or side salad. My husband had the Pub burger medium. We both ordered the fries. Since it was lunchtime and I was driving afterwards, I did not have any beer. My husband had Newcastle on tap, which he thought was a little flat, but it still taste good. A 16 oz mug of draft beer is $ 5. My club sandwich was very good. The chicken was juicy and the aioli gave it good flavor. The burger was close enough to medium. The fries are cut like curvy wedges. An unusual shape and seasoned like seasoned curly fries. Everything was hot and tasty. We overheard a patron at the bar getting mac and cheese though I don’t remember seeing on the menu. All in all, I’d recommend the Pub at Fair Play if you’re wine tasting in the area and didn’t pack a picnic or have someone along that rather have a beer.

What in the heck is a scotch egg? not sure, but it’s only $ 3 and a great late-night-after-drinking snack! Much better than my normal Saturday night fare, like Taco Bell Drive thru or 7 – 11 microwave burritos! Seriously though: casual atmosphere, good food, fast service. Especially impressive considering Fair Play is just a wide spot in the road, and even the road is the middle of nowhere. Highly recommended

We were told that this was one of the best places to grab a bite to eat in Fair Play. We stopped by around 2pm and there was only 1 other person there sitting at the bar. The waitress/bartender spent more time chatting with her friend at the bar than anything else. We were told that they have good fries, so when I ordered them to go with my burger, she said they were all out. All out of fries?! I got the traditional burger with cheddar cheese, bacon & fried egg, and there was nothing special about it. In fact, I didn’t even eat it all. I would not recommend this place unless you are super hungry and can’t wait to go somewhere else. The service overall was pretty slow as well.

Who showed up on a Friday night around 8 p.m. and we sat at the bar with three locals. They were very nice and provided for some good entertainment for the next hour or so. Behind the bar was a couple of younger staff members that didn’t appear to be too worried about making us feel at home or helping us choose a drink or food. We had to interrupt their conversation with each other to place order for our drinks and then again to order our food. After about 30 minutes we had to interrupt them a third time from their conversation to ask where our appetizer was. Luckily for whoever owns the restaurant sake the person who’s doing the cooking the back has got it going on. We ordered the Scotch egg which I would highly recommend everyone try before they die. Its a hard boiled egg wrapped in pork sausage, breaded and fried served with a local honey bacon glaze. The deep fried pickles, house cut french fries and traditional french onion soup were all delicious. We’ll be back again but hopefully they’ll have new staff. So the verdict is food 5 stars, locals entertaining us at the bar 5 stars and service 2 stars.

Tried it a few more times and it seems they’ve worked out the kinks. Nice staff, outdoor dining with umbrellas. Get the pulled pork, it’s pretty darn good :)
