I am so delighted that I found this salon. Anthony cut my hair and did a wonderful job. I have curly hair so to find someone that understands how to work with it is delightful. My hair looks healthy and the curls fall very nicely! Anthony and the other stylists at the salon are very nice! I will definitely go back.

I’ve been seeing Anthony and his staff for years. Great environment and people. I receive many compliments on my hair so I think that’s a good testimonial. Anthony’s always willing to be flexible and fit you in as best he can. Recommended if you’re frequently in the Assembly Row area.

I went here about a year ago and was so excited to go back because they did such a great job the first time. I had Marta as my stylist both times and she is AWESOME! I love what she did to my hair and I really appreciate the fact that she listened to what I wanted to do and considered my hair and my opinions when she decided what to do. A lot of hair salons make me feel like they just want to get it done and don’t consider things like my hair texture, length, current color, etc. Marta took my ideas and tweaked them to perfectly fit what I wanted! I got a bob type hair cut with an ombré color and I was nervous it would look fake but she blended the colors so well and I love it! It took a long time and it was expensive but it was definitely worth it– and I can’t wait to go back! Marta was very friendly and it was a great experience– and I can’t thank her enough for saving my hair! =)

Went for the first time today. Great location in Assembly Square with free parking. Kelly did my hair: cut, highlights and blow dry. She was adorable, friendly and did a fabulous cut from a picture I brought to the Salon and the color was great, she knew just what to do. Definately a great find!

LOVE Anthony Capalino’s Salon! They are so welcoming when I tried it when i moved to the local area and now is my go to! Marta is my stylist amazing and super fun but they are all great!

I’m going to start this review by acknowledging that I have a hair stylist back in my hometown that I have been going to since 6^th grade. I needed a cut bad and didn’t know when I could go make time to schedule with her so opted for doing a little research and stumbled on this salon.
One word: amazing! I made an appointment after purchasing the Groupon and landed an appointment with Anthony (the owner of the Salon).
I’m honestly appalled at any of the negative reviews. This place was clean, modern, and the staff were friendly. Anthony asked me what I wanted and went above and beyond my expectations. I received the Moroccan Oil treatment and my hair was smooth for a week! Anthony did an incredibly job blowing out my hair — and let me tell you I have hair as think as 10 people combined!
I will definitely go back here!

Marta rocks! She said, «Trust me honey, you’re gonna love it» and I did! With the first snip of her scissors my hair went from reaching below my waist to reaching barely up to my shoulders — and I was quite apprehensive. Oh yes I was quite apprehensive. I have thick, bushy and frizzy hair and a short length does not work because of the volume and it tends to stick outwards. Marta worked on reducing the volume of my hair and gave me some great blow drying tips. The end result was a great sleek trendy hairstyle and she also suggested ways I could style it to maintain it that way. She and I also discussed other stuff like coloring and highlighting and other potential hair styles. Anthony is a great fellow too! The shampoo he did was awesome. I’d definitely go back.

I had the worst hair cut of my life here.
First off, the salon is located in a weird location in a kind of rundown office building. The salon looked like it had been remodeled recently and would have been nice but it was dirty — cardboard boxes piled up near the front desk, scuffed up floor, dust bunnies in the corners, pen marks all over the front desk. I should have turned around and ran at that point.
I was scheduled for a cut and color. I told the stylist (Marta) that I wanted a long bob with the back a little shorter than the front.
She did the exact opposite of what I wanted, telling me at the end «I know this is not want you wanted but I think you’ll have fun with it». It was basically a mullet cut and to me, there’s nothing fun about having a mullet.
I’ll say the color was fine. However, when I was getting ready to leave the owner said to the stylist, «I think you missed some color on her face». The stylist was like «no, that’s a birthmark on her face.» I looked into the mirror and saw a huge smear of hair color on my cheek — obviously not a birthmark. She did her best to rub it off and in the meantime gave me rug burn on my face.
I didn’t even want to stay to tell them what a crappy experience this was as I don’t think they really cared anyway. After all this was a cheapy Groupon deal. I decided to cut my losses and chalk it up as a life lesson that you get what you pay for.

Just had my hair cut and colored by Marta. She did such an awesome job will definitely be going back!

I had a living social for a wash, cut and deep conditioning treatment and needed a cut badly. I was greeted when I walked in and offered coffee/​water/​tea. It was a snowy afternoon so there was only one stylist working so I had to wait 20 minutes or so. Once I was in the chair, the consultation I had with the stylist went perfect, sounded like she was going to do exactly what I wanted. Once it was time for my cut, she didn’t do what I asked or what we talked about! Thank god I had the coupon because I would not have wanted to pay full price for the cut. I wont be going back.

I went there to get a new hairstyle
I got a really really short haircut and I loved it!
The only problem was that since it was cut with the «razor» tool (sorry, I don’t know the correct name for it) and I have a lot of hair, it took a lot of patience to grow it back since the shorter hair was «pushing» the front one and I felt like a mushroom for a while ;)
Since I wanted to grow it back I haven’t go back there but I will!

I purchased a Groupon deal for the location in Somerville. It was one of the best experiences I’ve had when it comes to hair salon. I arrived there and there’s only one customer. I’ve waited only a minute, and it was my turn. I explained what kind of haircut I wanted and that’s exactly what I got. I spent no more than 20 minutes and in those 20 minutes I got haircut, hair wash and blow dry. I am more than satisfied with my hairstyle now. Sometimes when you get a haircut it only looks good when the hairdresser blow dries it. My hair looks fantastic all the time, don’t even need to dry it. I’m definitely recommending this place to everyone and I will be back not just for an excellent job that they they’re doing, but also for a super fast service. Anthony was awesome!

I have been searching for quite a while for someone new to do my hair since my stylist of 7 years moved out of Boston. I have tried several stylists and salons over the past year and a half, and am so happy to have come across Anthony’s salon. He gave me exactly the cut I have been looking for, and I’m loving the color. He doesn’t waste time… listens and gets right to business.
The salon can be a bit tough to find, as it’s in an unmarked building, and then in a gym. I would not have come across his salon had I not initially seen it on Groupon. Luckily I did find him though! I’m hoping the rates won’t go way up once I go as a non-​groupon customer… if not he may be stuck with me for quite a while!

This might be the best my hair has ever looked in my life. Marta did an amazing job doing an ombré color for me — it looks exactly as I hoped it would! Anthony gave me a great cut/​blow dry as well. I could not be more pleased. I highly, highly recommend this salon!

Okay, so I’ve been a client of Anthony’s (and specifically Anthony’s) for over a decade and a half, even when Anthony was a junior stylist at Salonpini and then later Will Charles, before he started his own salon. Anthony is a good guy — native Bostonian. In my opinion (nothing against gay men), I’ll just say that I prefer a straight guy cutting MY hair (and you’re welcome to have whoever you want cut your hair). His male clientele have included Ben Mezrich (Bringing Down the House), the former Red Sox player Josh Beckett (and others, Jon Lester I believe was his client, and Anthony used to go down to the clubhouse and give cuts), Dino Confalone, and many others.
I’ve had a range of stylists growing up, ranging from under $ 10 Chinatown cuts to Supercuts/​Great Cuts to others, and honestly, Anthony does a great job with men’s cuts. It is a bit pricy (usually like $ 50 – 75 for cuts, on the lower side for men and higher side for women) but price does not go with quality. A friend of mine used to say, «A pricier haircut is insurance against a BAD haircut.» I’ve never had a bad haircut with Anthony in somewhere around 12 – 13 years of regularly having him cut my hair. Cuts include shampoo and conditioner. Anthony has also given me a quick rinse to get rid of excess hairs post-​cut.
Any time I need to have my head shot for something that I care about (e.g., wedding pictures, etc.) I’ve gone to Anthony. Unfortunately I have not been a regular client as we live a bit far away from the city.
He’s also cut my wife’s hair a few times over the last 3 – 4 years (I believe last was summer 2014) and she’s been pleased, and then not charged us to do a tiny trimming for my son (who was under 2) just to desensitize him regarding the scissors. (Anthony gives his son and his wife haircuts too.)
I believe Marta is still cutting, and he’s rotated some junior stylists from time to time.
I’ve never had any of Anthony’s treatments so I can’t really speak about that (I have gone in and some of his clients have had some of those, but I usually go in, have my cut, and leave).
Slight «cons»:
Yes, it is in an old office park that used to be the Loews Assembly Square and is right beside the Assembly Sports Club, but I think Anthony was talking about moving to Assembly Row when it finishes construction over the next year or two. At least it has free abundant parking and even a Bank of America ATM (although Anthony does take credit cards although not Discover).
He doesn’t have a lot of «all natural» products for the crunchy type (not me). But just in case someone who is reading it does care.
I think I still give him between 4 and 5 stars and since I haven’t met anyone better giving haircuts, I’ll go with the 5.

One word, Marta! I just walked out of there 5 minutes ago and I feel like a million bucks! Love love her! She listened to what I wanted, gave me good advices on how to manage my hair and she did an amazing job with my color and cut. No complaints at all. I’ve been searching for a great stylist for so long and I think I finally found one. I will definitely be back. Marta ! Marta! Marta!

Never going back. I told Anthony I was growing my bangs out and the first thing he did was cut ½″ off my bangs (and the lady who dried my hair blew them under instead of over so they’re driving me even more crazy.
Also, my groupon included a single process color (a $ 60 value) but I was told that only covers the roots — if there’s any color left then he’d do the rest of my hair. $ 60 just to do the roots? Are you kidding me?
Anthony was also more interested in chatting with his friends (1 of whom had been arrested!) than taking care of me. He also was wearing a gray tshirt and shorts. Not very professional.
No water, tea or coffee was offered, which is standard. He also spent a lot of time answering the phone. No wonder they want you to schedule appointments via email.
The rest of my haircut (besides the whole bangs issue) was good.
Overall — stay away unless you’re a friend of his.
Calling BS on Anthony’s response. Baggy grey tee, shorts, and no water/​tea/​coffee self serve or otherwise. And chatting with another client about his friend who had been arrested? Um, yup.

I purchased a groupon for a haircut, blow-​dry, and moroccan oil treatment. Having recently relocated to Boston, I was really nervous to try a new stylist. But upon entering Anthony’s salon, I was immediately at ease. It’s modern and clean and Anthony is both welcoming and friendly.
We first sat down to discuss what I wanted to do with my hair. I told him a little about how my previous stylist would cut it, how my hair is very thick and heavy, and that I didn’t want a style that would give me a workout each morning. I wanted something easy to maintain, but cute and updated from my regular angled bob.
Anthony talked to me the whole time and asked questions about my life, but wasn’t nosy by any means. I like being able to talk to my stylists and get to know them too, so it’s nice that we could chat. As far as my cut goes, I love it! He took out a ton of bulk, chipped in some nice layers at the bottom, and instead of a boring ‘do, I now have a more refreshed, lighter version of my bob.
As I was leaving, I went to purchase some styling cream and leave a tip, but realized I had completely forgotten my debit card. I told him I was so sorry and would come back after retrieving my card from my house. Anthony was totally fine with that, and even let me take home the product, trusting me to call with my card info later. That’s pretty awesome! I wish he did color but I trust that his colorists are just as good with hair as he is!
*tip* you have to go into the fitness center to get to the salon.

Anthony is really good and quite thoughtful. Lot of fun, very friendly, a guy you like right away. He helps you think about your hair style after your appointment and hooked me up with techniques to keep the style from just imploding.
He’s pretty bloody expensive, though – he’s a special occasions kind of place for me.

I’ve gone to a different hair dresser for years and was super anxious to try a new place out. Anthony’s salon is in my work building so I figured I’d give it a shot, even though I doubted that somewhere so convenient would also be good.
Man, was I proven wrong. Anthony is a really cool guy who takes a lot of pride in his work. He’s been in the industry for about 20 years and it shows.
I went for a cut, and like a typical obnoxiously vague customer I said «I kinda want it shorter, but don’t want to look like a mom…» and he somehow turned that into an incredible cut that is both tasteful and hip. (I’m 23 if that matters to anyone looking).
I was extremely pleasantly surprised and will definitely go back again. I highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for a great cut!
