Always up for trying sushi especially at a new to me location. I was given a tip by the bartender at backbar to get the Chef’s Special from Shawn. 10 unique pieces of nigiri sushi. Every one a different flavor and texture. Worth the $ 30? Well good sushi doesn’t come cheap. All I have to say is you must try the eel. I’ll say it again. TRYTHEEEL! It’s not sweet like most people. It’s savory. Words used by Shawn and I’m in total agreement. My friend ordered the blizzard roll and she loved it. Cute spot. Tough to find parking but worth it if in the area.

I don’t understand how this place gets a 5 star rating. Pretty regular sushi joint with a few fusion rolls. Over, this place is okay. Maybe amazing for the Somerville area but sushi was just okay. Most likely wouldn’t be interested in going back here again.

I was pleasantly surprised when I came here! At first glance, it seems like every other average Asian fusion-y inside-out-roll Japanese place in Boston. But, it has a surprisingly authentic menu with items you can’t find elsewhere in Boston that still perplexes me. I don’t know any other place that has real teishoku — Japanese set meals often centered around a rice bowl(donburi) or cooked fish. This place gets kudos from my friend who lived in Japan for 2 years and myself(half-Japanese, grew up on Japanese food). The flavors are not necessarily stand out, but I applaud this place for offering food I haven’t seen elsewhere. — Croquette — basically a fried, breaded party of mashed potatoes. Very authentic and delicious! — Takoyaki — stuffed octopus dough balls. The flavor is great, though the inside was a bit doughy for my taste. — Neba Neba stuff(the tuna-yam teishoku) — this is the biggest surprise for me! «Neba-neba» describes a category of food that is sticky and slimy(but thought to be very healthy for you). You won’t really encounter this in American food(maybe pizza cheese?), so I am surprised they would have so many options! The tuna-yam combo was very fresh(and that type of yam gets discolored easily, so it’s hard to have it on hand). Overall, I’m excited to see what else this place has, and am eager to support their endeavors to offer unique Japanese dishes you wouldn’t find elsewhere.

Great place to come to for a nice Saturday night with friends or for a casual date. Sushi portions are generous, roles are delicious, and overall the vibe is very relaxing and simultaneously the perfect amount of energetic. The two general themes that I wasn’t too thrilled about were 1. the saltiness of the sushi I had and 2. too much mayonnaise on some roles unless you specifically ask for it to not be included. Not sure if that is a deal-breaker for authentic sushi lovers.

Chef’s choice nigiri combo was spectacular. Creative combinations of flavor and texture.

Starting appetizers: –gyozas(avg?) –miso soup(also avg, you can’t really mess up miso soup) –crab cream croquettes(definitely worth trying) Sashimi: Definitely fresh for what you’re buying. We ordered some mackerel, salmon, octopus, and they were all yummy. Maki(rolls): –tiger roll(SOOGOOD. you can taste a little spice, which i’m not complaining) –eel w/cucumber(avg) –spicy salmon w/cucumber(avg. not spicy at all. not too much salmon) Overall, I can say service was fine. There was sorta a wait for food at times. The menu was nice to look at with pictures, but Ebi Sushi Bar wasn’t anything special.

Came here for lunch on Sunday. Service, décor, and everything besides the food was alright. We were waiting a pretty long time for our food so they gave us some edamame on the house, which was nice. We got the 10 piece chef’s special and chirashi bowl and both were delicious. The rice was just perfectly cooked and seasoned and wasnt gummy or over vinegared in the slightest. We were hoping to get 10 different pieces but the chef ended up giving us two sets of 5 different pieces, not terrible but I thought there would be more variety in a 10 piece set. Let me tell you, the fish at this place is impeccable. Aged perfectly and just seasoned and cooked very well. I work in a restaurant too so when I was looking at the chef prepare things I got a little moist. He knows what hes doing. Out of 5 pieces of nigiri, here are the rankings: 1. Shrimp– there was just something different about it, I think a little bit of yuzu and mayo that just made all the difference. 2. Eel– It had some truffle salt on it and was also different and delicious. 3. Torched tuna belly– Warm and like butter in the mouth 4. Fatty tuna– looked like a slice of steak, tasted great. I mean its one of the most popular cuts 5. Some fish– It had jalepeno or some pepper on it. Once again, different, and delicious. Would come again.

For anyone who truly knows good sushi, this place is as good as it gets in the greater Boston area. They know how to prepare fish the traditional Japanese way; from marinading the saba to massaging the tako. It is obvious that the itamae have been trained by someone with an extensive knowledge and it shows in the food. I don’t post many reviews but when a restaurant takes the time and effort to prepare sushi like it should be, they deserve the recognition. Keep up the good work because people do notice.

Fresh and very, very satisfying. Cannot complain about the price at all for the quality of the fish. The head chef at the sushi bar knows what he’s doing and the chef special is a must have. Very delicate flavor combinations that doesn’t hide the fish and he’s also fun to chat with!

Solid 4 star rating. Came here based on the positive reviews online and their smattering of options of sushi, sashimi, kichen fare and other things. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy, simple layout with a sushi bar and a lounge area. I liked that they had parking in the back, since that area is a little difficult to consistently find parking in. Service was okay, i got the order in and out but not much in the table maintenance beyond getting my water filled and some plates cleared. Simple and effective. Ordered: kaiyake(scallop) which is a baked crabstick, mayo, tobiko, scallop salad served on a shell. It was okay, nothing special. Dumplings: Very good, nice and crispy and gave 6 pieces with a good flavored sauce(not a salty one!). Crab Croquet: I also enjoyed this too, but I love crispy mashed potatoes. No crab flavor though… Maki: I ordered the spicy salmon, crispy salmon skin, and philly rolls. I loved all 3. Good flavors, with good amount of rice and content(good balance). Also ordered a special roll that I forgot the name of but it was good too. Sushi: I ordered the unagi with truffle oil, nice rich tastes. The scallop, unagi, squid handroll was pretty good too, very generous portions of seafood. The toro sushi was very nice too. The only thing that wasn’t too great was the hokkaido scallop with green apple and mayo. It tasted too unbalanced for my enjoyment anyways. Pricing was very fair given the quality and overall enjoyment of the food. Definitely will come back here.

This review is for take out experience. On time for me to get back to my meeting. The osushi is delicious and the avocado is very fresh. The ladies in the front is very friendly and I will be back to eat in. The sushi chefs did a great job!!! It’s not too big and too small.

Very positive experience at Ebi. Had the lunch menu there and it was a feast and very fresh. Salmon sashimi is to die for. While there, I also saw a act of kindness from Ebi staff helping an elderly traveling patron to find taxi home. When she couldn’t hail taxi for him, she called the taxi company for him and helped him to the taxi once arrive. Nice to see waitress with a good heart.

So let’s talk about how I have this unhealthy relationship with Ebi and how I would probably name my children after it. Okay, maybe not but I love Ebi Sushi. Hands down, my favorite restaurant. To be honest, I can’t even conjure the words to describe how much I love this restaurant. Just try it and you’ll find what a hidden gem this restaurant is. I do recommend getting the Agedashi Tofu and Shrimp Tempura. It might sound basic but Ebi makes it like no other. Try them and you’ll understand.

Everything was good. Service was OK. Got the samma set. I loved the taste of the fish(but definitely not for those who don’t like the fishy taste). Would recommend it. The katsu set is probably the best set on the menu!!! comparable to those found in Asia. Crispy outside and juicy inside. The soft shell crab is also tasty with a salad underneath.

My neighborhood sushi spot and my favorite Sushi in the Boston area. Chef Sean and the crew never disappoint. I usually order a couple of my staple, Spicy Tuna rolls, then I pick a fish and ask Sean and the crew to whip up something special. Last time I visited, they made me a special Salmon roll that was hands down the best Salmon roll I’ve ever had. Check out the picture :)

Ebi is my neighborhood sushi spot — I love coming here, and I’m here almost every other week. Sure, I live in NY, but I’m still here all the time! This is literally my first stop when I land in Boston. The lunch specials here are outstanding(my usual go-to is the sashimi set with a roll), and I’m usually in and out within 30 – 40 minutes! The sashimi set is fantastic in the variety of food you get — some sashimi, a few pieces of a California roll, tempura, shumai, salad and miso soup — I know! It’s awesome! And the quality of their food is top notch — their tempura is so good that the batter almost shatters when you bite into it. The sashimi is also sliced expertly — if you’re expecting giant chunks of fish aka supermarket style you’re not going to find that here. Sashimi should be sliced thinly(as it is here!), and each piece is astoundingly tender. I’m such a big fan. And the quality you get for the price keeps me coming back! They’re so nice and friendly, and I love how welcomed I feel here. This is like my own personal Cheers!

Big fan of Ebi! Makes me want to use the term«unassuming,» like, non-stop. It’s a no frills Japanese joint cloaked in glass and concrete with loads of seating on the outskirts of Union Square, serving the raw you’d expect from the moment you walk in. Plus, curry dishes! Toraya is the gold standard for exquisite suburban chirashi, yet Ebi holds its own against Arlington’s best kept secret. At Ebi, you’ll find more sweet egg, fewer pickled mushrooms(read: none), more krab and mackeral as a front-runner. All in all, a hearty, healthy lunch of sashimi artfully plated atop a bowl of sushi rice. The miso sips standard issue, and my lunch buddy Annie G raved over the agedashi tofu. You’ll find lunch bentos, sushi specials and a slight price drop on the chirashi($ 14.50 while the sun’s out), which is nice, given that the pricing feels a bit high for the wheres and whats of the Ebi story. A very solid 3.5 with a bump for smiling, attentive service!

Been here several times and very worth the price. Love it when they have tuna fat belly. Price is reasonable and the quality of the fish is very good. They have a nice menu of variety. Service is well and they are friendly. Most of the time its not packed when I go so I get a seat immediately. No parking lot but you can park next door when the garage closes.

Good sushi place that does good takeout. Must preface this with the fact that I am a Los Angeles native and might be considered by some to be a Sushi snob. That being said, the sushi from this place was fresh with very good quality fish. Seaweed was not chewy, avocado and vegetables were also on point. Salmon and yellow tail was quality and they have a decent amount of rolls to choose from(most of which do not use cream-cheese which is refreshing to see). Would order from again without question.

Soooo I really didn’t want to write this review because I wanted to keep Ebi Sushi all to myself. But I thought that’d be unfair since Boston is SERIOUSLYLACKING in the authentic sushi game. I went last Wednesday and had a seat at the sushi bar in front of Jose. I had been there before and ordered okonomiyaki and a cooked salmon teishoku so I wasn’t sure what to expect w/the sushi. Oh. My. God! Completely blown away. We got the Chef’s Choice Nigiri for $ 25. $ 25 friggin’ bucks! Cheapest sushi deal I’ve ever had. It came w/toro, squid, bluefin tuna, hamachi toro, ikura, amaebi, unagi, seared salmon topped w/miso, scallop topped w/a bit of uni, tai w/shiso and a dollop of ume… omg. Everything was so good. The fish were all fresh and delicious particularly the toro and hamachi toro. melt in your mouth goodness. The thing that made Ebi my new favorite sushi restaurant is their ikura! Never have I had such fresh, amazing ikura in Boston. Ever! They marinate the ikura which makes a world of difference. They pop in your mouth immediately instead of leaving that gummy texture behind(which is a sign of not-so-fresh ikura) and release this oceanic deliciousness that makes me want a whole bowl of it. Goodness. My mouth is watering just thinking about this place. I need to go back! Jose is super friendly and also very passionate about his sushi, you can tell just by how he talks about each neta. I also reeally really liked his sushi rice as well. Thank you Ebi Sushi! You’ve made being away from Tokyo a little more tolerable :)
