You know you’ve found a legitimate dive bar when they open at 10:30am on a Tuesday morning. This is a great little spot in Davis Square with cheap drinks, HOWEVER, lacking in a patio space in front and out back. This is a cash only bar, so make sure to hit the ATM before heading over.

Ohhhh yesssss! Day drinkers rejoice… you’ve found your bar and people. The drinks are strong, the clientele rowdy, and the bartenders attentive. Perfect place if you want to drink your worries and cares away, because at this point any imperfection is hazed over by alcohol. If you’re in the neighborhood this place is worth a visit… or an overnight stay.

Great dive, don’t go here if you’re expecting ambience. If you’re in Davis and need a drink, this is where you go.

This place brings me back to the good ol’ college days of cheap beer, getting cut off by bartenders(who actually care about you), and grimy bathrooms. This place is a gem. My favorite line from the other night was from a customer, «Can I get a lagunitas?» and the response from the bartender, «-A…WHAT??? Heres a bud light.»

Unilocal says this place is not wheelchair accessible, it is. I was in there recently in my wheelchair. With that said, if the place is really busy, it might be difficult to get in or move around.

Solid dive bar with good music, great beer prices, and colorful bartenders. If you’re looking to be pampered with exotic cocktails this isn’t the place for you. Want some beer or bourbon at a reasonable price in Davis Square this is a great spot. It gets a little crowded later in the evening Thursday to Saturday. By crowded I mean wall to wall tough to move crowded. This would be a five start dive if it wasn’t for the smell of fresh turd. Not sure what the deal is with the smell. Maybe it’s just part of the ambience. I’m sure it scares away some of the non locals. Overall a decent place for a cheap beer.

This is one of the best bars in Somerville. The last of a dying breed. Sligo caters to bankers, grad students, construction workers, restaurant industry people, and degenerates alike, the way it should be.

CLOSETHISPOOPOOHOLEDOWN. this is the poopooiest bar in all of Somrville, yet because its in Davis Square it continues to stay open, probably because it serves watered down cheap beer to underage college kids so they give it great reviews in return. Close it down and put something decent in its place. the entire bar smells, the tables and walls are all graffiti. every inch of the wood in this poopoohole is carved with expletives and trash. the bathrooms are extremely unhygienic with no locks or flowing water. I have no idea how they pass inspection day after day. I walked into this caca smelling place for a friends birthday, we were walking by and decided to stop in. Upon entering I was immediately inundated with the smell of human feces and sewage. it was like a punch in the face. It smelled if the bathroom toilet was expelling excrement for hours and the bar simply didnt care. I immediately covered my nose. Upon doing so, the unhygienic overweight angry townie bartender immediately gave ME attitude. Like the problem wasnt the way his disgusting bar smelled but was ME. He then threatened to throw me out If i continued to «have a problem». Basically, if i had an issue with his smelly bar smelling like feces then I could leave. GLADLY, LARGEMAN. FORGETTHISDISGUSTINGCACAHOLE. dont go here, dont walk by here, dont recommend here. Its the WORST place Ive ever stepped foot in in my entire life and it needs to be erased from existence. Especially since the owner forces Unilocal to remove any negative posts about his bar. If you see anyone giving it 5 stars its because they know someone who works there, are underage and get to drink, are extremely stupid, are extremely disgusting and enjoy disgusting places or are fake users

This is one of the few remaining bars on the Cambridge area where you can get a beer for less than $ 4. The staff isn’t friendly, but they’re fast and good at what they do. The regulars are a mix of up-and-comers and down-on-their-luckers. It’s a nice spot.

Bartender was amazing but that nasty heroin addict with the narsty attitude and disgusting hair can go die in a public bathroom waiting for her narcan. She will anyway.

The world is changed, and the Davis Square that once was, is lost. A majority of the quirky establishments like McIntyre & Moore, Someday Café, Disc Diggers, and the fascinating Your Move Games/Yee’s Village symbiosis that made it unique have perished. Into the voids left by their departure have arrived unnecessary banks, purveyors of frivolous knick-knacks, overpriced resale clothing stores, and upscale yet soulless bar+grilles. However, a few defiant survivors from the glory days still persist to give a big fat middle finger to nü-Davis, and foremost among these is Sligo. Sligo hasn’t completely avoided changing with the times: thanks to the 2004 smoking ban, the front door no longer belches forth a reeking cloud of cigarette smoke when you enter. The venerable Golden Tee has been replaced by some variety of Big Buck Hunter-style megafauna-massacre shooter game. And perhaps most significantly, the old-fashioned disc-based jukebox has been replaced with a sleek digital one with a nigh-infinite selection ranging from Howlin’ Wolf to Lady Gaga to Megadeth to Kenny Chesney. But fear not: the giant handles of well vodka and peach schnapps are still gathering dust on the shelves behind the bar, the barflies are still gathering dust on the stools in front of the bar(in rapt attention to the Sox game on the TV, natch), the beer is still the cheapest in Davis by far, and the tables still look like they were used as targets for bayonet charge practice during the Civil War. Sure, the bathrooms are state-park-level disgusting. Sure, they don’t serve food. Sure, the entire establishment is crammed into a space no larger than a bowling lane. Nonetheless, the total far exceeds the sum of its parts, and with the possible exception of Underbones, no other bar in the Davis Square area is fit to carry Sligo’s beer-stained jockstrap.

Few and far between they are these days: a true cash only poor mans bar with sticky floors and a piss stinky pissa. Music maybe or not. Dimly lit, the inside is a welcome respite from bustling Davis square. Duck in and grab a seat at the bar. Watch the game. Order a slice from Cristo’s next door. Cheaper n’ cheap shots in plastic cups. Beer in plastic cups. Brusque but efficient service. Bring a date here and ye’ll likely not have another. Bring the boys and a good time will be had by all.

Sligos is almost perfect at being a dive bar. Cheap drinks(are there $ 4 beers anywhere else in the Boston area?), a crowd of locals, and a bathroom for us guys without a lock on it. Almost perfect. The bartenders are friendly enough, if a little snide if they don’t agree w/your drink of choice. The place is a bit small, but there’s just enough room to make it all work, so long as you’re willing to brush by some folks now and then. Really, so long as you’re with a couple friends and just looking for a dive bar in Davis with cheap drinks, this is probably the place to go. There are definitely classier, cleaner, and cozier bars a few feet away, but you if you’re coming here you probably don’t want those things. You just want to pay $ 2 to shoot some zombies on an old arcade machine with some of your buds.

Soooo glad to have an awesome dive bar so close to me! Do yourself a favor and go here with 3 of your best buddies, buy a pint for all of them(don’t tell them how much you paid), and treat them to a game of Buck Hunt. It will be at least an hour of solid entertainment and you’ll still pay around half the price of the tab at another place. It’s cheap and grungy and awesome. The only thing out of place is the jukebox, which has a nice selection, but is an indicator that maybe even Sligo is gentrifying? I hope not.

While not the diviest of dive bars, Sligo is still a dive. A wonderful saving grace amongst the plethora of expensive bars in Davis Square. A sweet escape from the upscale and more upscale establishments. A place where you can, for $ 3 per PBR, $ 4 for others, extra for Guinness, sip away in definitely-not-quiet-yet-still-somehow relaxation. Excellent for all casual, less than casual, and sometimes formal occasions.

The Jukebox here is so fancy now… luckily nothing else is, so it still feels like Sligo. Dimly lit, highly graffitied, no food just booze, cheap pours, shoulder-to-shoulder and still slightly smelly. Bring cash and low expectations and you’ll be happy as a dive-bar clam.

Cheep beer. Nice staff. Clean for a dive. What more could you want? We didn’t have cash when we arrived, but still ordered drinks and paid when we left. Not many places let you get away with that. Once my friend came back I thought he’d come over and ask us to pay, but he wasn’t bothered. Not in an ‘I dont care kind of way’, but in ‘I trust them, they’ll pay’ way.

I want to like this place so badly… dive bars are usually my jam. but every time I go, it’s SOCROWDED and really does smell awful and every beer I’ve ordered has been luke warm. At least it’s consistent?

It’s always interesting what you find in Davis. A Davis once with dirty coffee shops, cheap diners, bowling alley, and parking now with very similar contemporary american pub grub, a diverse and wonderful cultural menu and less parking and something that is pretending to be a bowling alley. What I want to say about Sligo is its consistency. Someone once said that it doesn’t matter if you are good or bad, as long as you are consistent, so people know what to expect from you. That’s what Sligo is: Boston game on? Packed. Fri/Sat late night packed, Sunday evening? Perfect, warm, seats, other cities game on, but not too loud. Messy, but not dirty(which is a step up from years ago), and friendly people. The bartenders are good, and there are locals that still come through here, just a little less than before. For those who talk poorly of this place, I think they haven’t figured this out. Like all cities, there are things you want and don’t want out of an evening, Sligo will always give you what is expected. Beers are 5 bucks, except for the PBR which is 3.75, the Guinness is 6(this is with the added dollar for tip, don’t be cheap)! Lastly, jute box(juke?) game anyone? I think the longest song and most annoying song is the Day the Music Died, pay for 20 times in a row and see how many time you get to until someone unplugs the thing. Don’t do this. Very bad idea.

Sligo is the jam! I don’t really understand why people are reviewing it as if it’s foul, but then I cut my dive bar teeth in the Rust Belt where *every* bar looks like Sligo, so there’s nothing horrifying at all about this to me. I usually go in with another female friend and I don’t feel weird or like some scuzzy dude is about to grab me on his way to play Buck Hunter in the back. The bartender is really nice, the price is right, they have outlets for charging your phone at the table and you can bring your own food, and they have the Pogues on the jukebox. I really can’t ask for more. It can get super-crowded on weekend nights when the Tufts hipster crowd shows up, but all in all it’s way more chill than the Burren or, God forbid, the J-tree.
