Their Unilocal page claims they’re wheelchair accessible, and said that they would have no problems accommodating a wheelchair when we called to make a reservation. There’s an 8 inch step at the entrance. ‘Nuff said.

We have been here at the end of 2015 and the food was very good, 4 stars, but the service was rather amateurish, so 2 stars for that. That is the reason for the 3 stars. The entrees are around $ 18. We think they are a bit overpriced. $ 12 to $ 15 would be more appropriate for the cuisine. So we just hold off on the drinks in that case, as this is not really a place to go to for drinks anyways. The food is a lot better than Cantina La Mexicana in Union Square, however. Worth paying a few bucks more.

Yum! I enjoyed a cozy delicious dinner here. I could honestly just live off of their tamales alone, but this restaurant has more to offer than that. Tu y Yo offers more Prehispanic dishes, interesting ingredients foreign to other Mexican restaurants in the New England area and a charming atmosphere. I had the cerdo cooked with delicious savory cuitlacoche sauce and topped with cubed fresh cheese and it did not disappoint. Pork is not my first choice at restaurants unless I am dining on Korean food, but the flavors werre fantastic and the rice and beans complimented the dish nicely as well. The service was fast and the sangria was good. I will have to try the michelada next time as I haave always been intrigued by this complex drink, but I wasn’t sure what to pair it with. The beer menu offers many Mexican lagers that will pair well with heartty flavorful dishes.

I first tried this place when I moved to the area a year ago. I was happily surprised with the unusual menu and variety of food. After I ate the food though, I was ecstatic! Their service is excellent and their food is delicious! I particularly enjoy the stuffed bell pepper with beef in a creamy sauce with pomegranate seeds… yum, I’m drooling now. Still enjoying the food a year later! Definitely worth trying!

Wow, was brought here after running the ½ marathon. Love love love the unique take on Mexican food. Had a red mole chicken dish that has me drooling. Tamales so so good.

Solid place for Mexican food. The service is what turned me off. Attentive with water refills. However we felt VERY rushed. Literally 2 minutes after we were seated she asked if we were ready to order. Our menus were still open and we didn’t even look at the drink menu. Then 3 minutes later, she asked again if we were ready to order. So we put in the drink order — half carafe of white sangria, which was pretty good. There were only 3 tables seated at this point. Not busy by any means. She came with our drinks and this time we were thankfully ready to order. Flautas de pollo — bland, chicken had no seasoning. Needed a lot of the salsas served with the flautas to give some flavor. Caldo tlalpeno — solid soup, not too much chicken, good for a cold day like any soup. Hearty. Mole Colorado — amazing flavor. Could definitely taste the ancho and chipotle with the nutty flavor of almonds and pumpkin seeds. Would definitely recommend. In the middle of our meal, she came up to us and asked if we wanted to take anything home. We still had pretty full plates. She was not perceptive at all. When we were finally finished(no food left on plates), she asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. I wanted to take a peek. When she returned to our table, she asked if we wanted our check! I was taken aback. Seriously? Why offer the dessert menu then? My husband was nicer and took over — he ordered the Mexican coffee and informed her that we were going to share the flan. The Mexican coffee was the other highlight of the meal. The flan got better as we ate more. It had a sour taste at first but weirdly became mildly sweet. Ambiance was comfy casual. We were one of the first people to arrive and we didn’t have to wait for a table but it did eventually fill up on a Friday evening. Overall an «okay» meal — our last minute casual date night was made to feel awkward by the service.

Very traditional Mexican flavors and approach, but not the same tired Mexican staples on the menu. Original items and a nice selection to choose from. I’ve eaten most of the menu at this point, and basically you just can’t go wrong with anything you pick. Just go.

Really good mexican food. Went here for brunch and it was super chill. Not from around boston so I don’t know how it stacks up in that scene, but it’s better than a lot of places in NYC.

Excellent! This place is awesome. Nice, little place with some amazing food. I do wish they had a proper bar but that’s nothing to take stars away for. I will definitely go back here. Try the sangria and mexican coffee!

Remains one of my favorite spots in the greater Boston area. Very authentic taste on Mexican food. Love the coconut tamale, and anything in their mole sauce. Their Mexican coffee is also unique and out of this world. Cactus and corn fungi stuff are cool to try, but in my opinion were not as tasty.

Cozy, perfect date night spot. They put a different spin on Mexican food which I really like. Started with the tamales which come with two corn, one coconut, a chicken and fish tamale. All were great– the corn was definitely my favorite. For an entrée I had the chicken breast entrée(Mole Colorado Tiaxcalteca) with red mole which is Chocolate based and a blend of almonds, peanuts, seasame seeds, pumpkin seeds and peppers. It was quite interesting– I have never had this type of mole before and would definitely order it again. My boyfriend had the carnitas and seemed to like them a lot. He literally licked his plate. The sangria was decent– I wish it could have had more of a wine taste but it was still quite good and refreshing. It’s a different spot and a breathe of fresh air from the super trendy, try hard joints all over Boston. I like the authentic vibe and the fact that there was no wait on a Friday night at 7PM!

Tu Y Yo is always a winner! IMPORTANT: Tu Y Yo is not«standard» American Mexican food, so it’s a great place to go even if the thought of a burrito is totally unappetizing. It’s like Olé in that regard. The assorted tamales and the cuitlacoche crepes are my go-to appetizers. Note: If you’ve never had cuitlacoche before, definitely DONOT look at photos of it on your phone or ask too much about what it is before your meal — just get it, eat it, and look later. For an entrée, I got the Puerco En Salsa De Cacahuates, and my friend got the(beef) Chile Relleno. Mine was really good, but my friend’s was better — the Chile Relleno sauce was really, really tasty and fragrant. I’ve tried many other apps and entrees here on prior occasions, and I’ve always been really happy with the consistently excellent quality. Service has always been great too.

This place is a neat home-cooking restaurant right near Powderhouse square. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the Davis Square t and right near Tufts campus. The windows make it easy to people-watch from the inside, which is always fun. The food was quite flavorful. I had the Chile Relleno En Nogada and thought the flavors blended together well. I didn’t think it would be possible to combine all of those ingredients into something delicious, but I was wrong. I just wish it was a bigger meal! The sangria was pretty lackluster. Nothing to write home about. My friend was really underwhelmed, too. Service was on the slow side, but our waiter was kind. The price point is between 2 and 3 dollar signs. Bottom line: you might not be in love with this place, but they pull off the vibe they’re going for.

Delicious and unusual food in an unpretentious and relaxed setting. The menu contains many ingredients that I had never eaten or even encountered before. Pre-hispanic options! And great vegetarian options. The food tastes and feels real — not fussy, flavorful and nourishing. Portion sizes not overwhelming. Entrees come with a side of rice & beans, which means you can create a mixture to your liking. I don’t always take pictures of my food before eating it, but I could not resist with the Indio Vestido — a cactus ‘paddle’, dressed and filled with cheese. Heavenly.

Have to post an update. We made a reservation for this place for a graduation late lunch several weeks in advance. We arrive to find that they just decide to close up shop for the day without any warning. We had one missed call from them with no message, and they didn’t pick up after we tried calling back several times. Talk about unprofessional. Ridiculous.

So flavorful and special, this restaurant makes me realize how real Mexican food is supposed to taste. I didn’t really recognize some of the dishes on the menu and I have eaten my fair share of Mexican food. Even their rice and beans were something else… I had the tamales which came wrapped in banana leaves and were each uniquely delicious, the mushroom quesadilla, perfectly crispy and soft on the inside, and the bisteces en salsa borracha, a very tasty and tender beef stew. Everything was amazing so I don’t even know what specifically to recommend. The waitress was also very pleasant. The music, paintings and photos on the wall, and even their leather bound menus all transported me to another place. Great experience and fantastic meal :)

Honestly, I came for the grasshoppers. No, really. There are very few places that’ll do chapulines, and I wanted my wife to try them, so we came for grasshoppers on a slow and snowy Saturday night. They were decent — spicy and tasting mostly of crunch, with a creamy and tangy avocado sauce. The rest of the meal was not bad, but again, mostly«decent». Huitlacoche crepes were cheesy, with more of that avocado sauce, but lacked the really smoky punch of good corn fungus. Pork with cactus paddles was tender and in a sauce with a good blend of smoke, chile, and nut… but desperately under-salted. House sangria was pretty bland, and they were just flat out of any beer that wasn’t super light(no Negra Modelo, no Bohemia Obscura, etc.) The avocado cheesecake was, as other reviews have claimed, pretty innovative and avocado-ey. Nothing was wrong with the meal, the servers were attentive, and we had a decent time. I just walked out failing to feel like«wow, this is a place we have to come back to.» I know it’s home-cooking style, but especially given their focus on authenticity, it seems like the overall level of flavor could be bumped up a notch.

Come here if you want a Mexican food experience beyond enchiladas and tacos — if you’re looking for that, walk down the street to Painted Burro, which better services diners who are looking for«common» Mexican fare(also delicious, but not what Tu y Yo does). We loved the coziness of the restaurant and having our eyes/mouths widened to what Mexican food could actually taste like. The menu is extensive, and a true test of my high school level Spanish(I failed). On top of that, the prices were pretty reasonable considering we left with enough food leftover for lunch the day after. For appetizers, we got the crepa de camaron, which had shrimp, olives, and cheese. It was wrapped like an enchilada, and this somewhat odd, but delicious, combination was drenched in this masterful spicy and creamy sauce that we sopped up desperately with our spoon and fork until the plate was empty. We commented that neither of us have ever been so obsessed with a sauce. Our entrees, the mole colorado tiaxcalteca and the special, looked similar, but were both delicious, moist, and although the sauces looked similar they had wildly different layers of flavors. Came with rice and beans, which were surprisingly good as well. We had enough leftover for a meal for two the next day. Overall, an appetizer, two entrees, and a half carafe of sangria put us at around $ 30.
