Many people have great experiences with hospice but that is not the case in for us, with end of life care for both my Dad in 2008 and currently my Mom. There is absolutely no urgency to providing the necessary care. They are there to write prescriptions for pain that may or may not work, and you administer care. My mom had a change of condition this morning, unable to keep any meds down and is in an extreme amount of pain. It has taken 9 phone calls in 2 hours to just get confirmation that someone is indeed being sent out. Nurses cannot provide the same services as nurses in a hospital, such as IV to administer meds. We had a nurse incorrectly change my mom’s catheter which was extremely unsettling for us all. Extremely disorganized and unprofessional. My family found hospice to be very unsupportive, incompetent and challenging to work with.
