Hard to find but worth it. Beautiful drive out(easier roads coming from Napa out toward Skaggs, the Sonoma side is a little bumpy) past hundreds of acres of vineyards, hayfields, and marsh/grassland. It’s not easy to find, look for the big hay barn — the parking lot and trail head are just at the curve in the road there with very few signs(the biggest sign says it’s a private railroad crossing but the public lot is just across the track). Bring a hat and binoculars if you can — little to no shade but TONS of birds and many colorful, different species. A little windy but that’s nice when it’s so sunny out. The(treated and recycled) water looks lovely but loads of signs warn against drinking it. Warnings not to being dogs from March 2 through June 30. A neat wooden bridge pops up and there are loops around a couple of the ponds/marches. Nice view of the eastern foothills of Sonoma as they lead out toward Novato with a view over the water you might not have expected to be so close to Sonoma and Napa as they approach the bay. Hat and sunglasses make it very nice, careful on the gravel trails that are very clear but a little loose in spots. Hiking shoes would be nice but tennis shoes would be fine. No garbage can so be ready to pack out your stuff, including your dog’s. We’ll go back but I think a morning walk without full sun would be the best time to try it. Great look at Sonoma as it leads out to the bay.
