This library is very kid friendly. The book selection is minimal and I had to download an e copy of a book to my iPhone today. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. It sits in a very cool part of town right on the lake. I like that they use technology, but I wish they had newer versions of books available.

We were visiting south Lake Tahoe and decided to stop at the library, the kids didn’t want to leave. Fun library with lots of space and toys. Great selection of books in Spanish.

I take my children here ages 1 ½, 5 and 9. Great place for them to get to know books and reading there are also fun little play areas for them. The staff is super sweet and I love to take my toddler for the reading circle on Wednesday and Thursday! They also have a lot of extra events and things they do especially in the summer where we got to watch a puppet show as well as see some wild animals. Support this local library!

A library is not the first place that comes to your mind when you think of South Lake Tahoe. And I bet I was the only tourist that day when I strolled into the library while the rest of the crowd was out there on crushing pow on the slopes. I came here to learn a little bit about the history of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada and went out pretty happy with my experience. Though definitely not as large as the public libraries of big cities like San Francisco, the library had a good diverse collection. Most importantly though, I loved the space — large, open galleries with comfy seating, a very academic vibe and no suspicious characters lurking around(unlike the SF library at Civic Center). Definitely a cool place to relax and get some reading and/or writing done.

I love libraries and think that they are a very important part of any civilized, educated society. The South Lake Tahoe branch of the El Dorado county library system is a wonderful place. They do an excellent job there, and provide great service for the community. The location is comfortable and the librarians are nice. There is a decent selection, and easy access to all of the catalog for the rest of the county. Thanks for being there, and support your local library!

A decent smaller library. The building itself could be nicer(it feels too dark in there). It is conveniently located near the lake and Freshies, Rude Bros. The computers and free wireless are a popular community resource(especially for the many young foreign workers).

For a small town library, South Lake Tahoe’s brand of the El Dorado County library isn’t bad. Free Internet, a surprisingly good selection of new releases, an eclectic selection of DVDs and music CDs, and a hefty books on tape/cd section. I like using the library because I don’t have enough room to buy and keep books, and I don’t have to feel guilty for borrowing a chick-lit novel or an enormous cookbook tome(they have the huge Bittman and Bön Appetit volumes — need I say more?). While the actual building feels a bit old and dated, I’m happy to see that the library’s funds are going to adding books and materials instead of new furniture or blinds.
