Fireside Lodge

We arrived to Lake Tahoe a day early so we needed a pet friendly room for the night. Fireside Lodge exceeded our expectations! Clean and detailed rooms with charm. We were greeted with a celebratory baked chocolate cake & cookies for our anniversary. Included is a nice continental breakfast selection. We would definitely recommend staying here!

I was asked by manager/​owner Christine to take down my review of Way Ward House since the house was not part of Fireside Lodge. Probably not anymore, but at the time of my web search in February, I went to
and got the our keys from Fireside Lodge. There might be changes on their business standpoint since I didn’t find Way Ward House in their website.
I made some corrections: The 2 sofas (in the living room) were indeed pullout and can be beds. The cleaning fee was one time fee and not daily rate.

My Family and I had a fantastic weekend at the lodge.
I didn’t realize how dog friendly the Lodge was. I knew the owners had dogs who stay in the main lodge area. But other guest also had dogs. I mention this because my husband has a kinda dog intolerance to certain breeds of dogs thankfully he only experienced light sniffling which gives credit to how clean the owners keep the lodge.
My kids 12&11 years enjoyed closing the each night in their nostalgic game room and then smore’s outdoors under the stars. I asked my husband if he would like to return and I got a solid yes. On a scale from 1 to 10 my kids gave the lodge a 20 and I totally agree.

Absolutely great place to get away. It has a very cozy atmosphere. This place is very family friendly and the owners make sure you have a great stay. My party came after office hours but were still able to get our reserved room with no problem at all. We were amazed to go into our warm and well designed room. And the waffles were a great way to start in the morning. Also their dogs Kona and Sandy are the best!

Absolutely a gem of a place! Love the «family» feel, and the fact there are only a few «dens». Makes this spot the perfect location to «get away» from the hustle and bustle of Tahoe. From the friendly greeting by Christine and David (I’m pretty sure that’s his name), to the cheerful welcome from Kona and Sandy (the «yellow bears» of Tahoe). We truly enjoyed our 2 night stay here.
Breakfast was perfect. Make your own waffles, bagels and toast, cereals, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs… Plenty to choose from. They also offer many «fixins» for the waffles of you care to get creative. Maybe some chopped egg and bacon bits? Or some sprinkles and chocolate chips? The options are endless.
All day hot chocolate and cappachino available, along with small snacks and fruit. We didn’t get to enjoy the evening reception which offered cheese and crackers, wine, etc. but we did get to enjoy the fire pit at night and made a few smores.
The Manager (didn’t catch his name) was also very welcoming and friendly. He visited with us out by the fire pit for a while, which was nice.
There is also an infra red sauna, however I did not get to enjoy it this trip.
We stayed on the Bear’s Den (#9). Was the only room available for our length and dates of stay, and I was hesitant at first being it was an accessible room (I have this weird thing about roll-​in showers after spending enough time in hospitals. But, there was TONS of room compared to the others. And, 2 beds! I believe queen beds.
I have to say, if you are questioning staying here or not, DONT QUESTION IT! JUST DO IT! We had an absolute blast and kiddo truly enjoyed himself as well. We will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed our stay at Fireside Lodge last week. I try to take my dog everywhere with me, and finding dog friendly hotels can be challenging, so I’m glad my boyfriend found this place.
We left San Francisco for Tahoe around 2PM on a Friday, but due to traffic, did not get to Fireside Lodge until 10PM (the front office closes at 9PM), but they were able to make sure we got into our room, and we really appreciated the accommodation.
We found treats and a blanket for our dog (& cookies for the humans) when we entered our room, and a warm cozy fireplace.
They have plenty of amenities like breakfast, coffee, snacks, happy hour, smores, etc. And around the lodge, there are plenty of places to go hiking and exploring with your dog. We’ll definitely be back!

We stayed one night on Wednesday, January 06, 2016. My son and I stayed in room 2-​field and stream. It was tiny, cozy, warm, and clean! There were cookies for us too! We came an hour early, and Christine checked us in, gave us a tour, and provided snacks and drinks! This place was beautiful with a cabin feel, and it’s nicely decorated too. I loved that they provided breakfast, snacks, smores, and they have an arcade, games, books, fireplace, and a great lounging area. We will definitely come back, and we will bring hubby and our doggies. Thank you for the great hospitality and a wonderful experience!

My boyfriend and I went here late September for a few days. Dave, Christine, Bryan & the pups were super friendly and helpful throughout our entire stay. The rooms and grounds are spacious, clean and welcoming. Everyone was very kind and offered us great tips on what to do in Tahoe. The breakfast buffet, wine & cheese, smores, and open bar are just some of the many perks of staying here. I really enjoyed hanging out in the lounge and by the fire with the other guests. After a while it started to feel like we formed our own little family. Staying at the Fireside Lodge was incredible and I look forward to coming here on future trips to Tahoe!

Fireside Lodge is everything you want and more. I cannot express enough how wonderful our stay was during the weekend of 12÷12÷15. After days of convincing, my husband eventually agreed to stay at this Bed and Breakfast for the holiday season as opposed to the «fancy» hotels near Heavenly. On the day we arrived, I was welcomed by Christine, one of the owners, and her two lovely dogs, Kona and Sandy. Christine gave my family a tour of the vicinity which had a cozy gathering room beautifully decked with an array of Christmas décor, a fireplace, kitchen, meeting room, an enclosed patio for relaxation, a game room with vintage games, and the sledding hill located at the back. There were also DVDs and sets of board games that you can take back to your room and a cool bar area filled with a variety of liquor, beer, and wine succeeded by the honor system.
When Christine opened the door to our room, I immediately wanted to plop on the bed, curl into a ball, and nap because that’s how cozy and comfortable it was.
To enhance the already relaxing atmosphere was the fireplace. Oh yes, the fireplace. Fireplace + 32 degrees + Snow + Holiday Season = Best. Feeling. Ever.
The room also included a TV, DVD Player, Netflix, DirectTV, fridge, freezer, plates/​bowls and silverware, mugs, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, crockpot, and food/​water bowls for those who bring their pups. I had mentioned to Christine when making my reservation that our 4-year-old’s birthday was coming up and we wanted to bring her to the snow as a little birthday surprise. And being the awesome and thoughtful owners that they are, our daughter was welcomed with a cute little birthday cake and she was beyond ecstatic. The view from our room was an absolute beauty because you really can’t beat gazing outside and appreciating blankets of white, trees covered with fresh powder, and the simple sight of falling, white flurry.
Breakfast is served from 8am — 11am, consisting of making your own waffle, toppings, oatmeal, toast, bagels, cereal, fruit, yogurt, coffee, juice, and some delicious baked goods made by Christine. Happy Hour is from 5pm — 7pm, serving a variety of cheese, crackers, and wine and from 7pm — 9pm, there’s marshmallow roasting outside at the fire pit. Trust me, you’ll want to experience these gracious offers by Fireside.
What was supposed to be a one-​night stay for us became a two-​night stay because of the continuous snow. We did not hesitate to stay another night at Fireside. We felt so comfortable and welcomed by everyone, including our neighbors, and it was almost like we all already knew each other. We stayed in our room during the storm and watched Netflix and DVD’s, we hung out in the Gathering Room, we played in the Arcade Room, we built a snow man in the back, we slid down the sledding area, we ate breakfast, had happy hour, roasted marshmallows, made an alcoholic beverage and donated money, we did everything from the comfort of Fireside Lodge. This is an experience we will never, ever forget. If you ever desire the feeling of the Christmas holiday during the winter season, Fireside is the place to be. Fireside has definitely lived up to its numerous 5-​star reviews and we cannot wait to come back.

Absolutely NO REGRETS choosing this place over the other «posh» lodging in South Lake Tahoe.
Family owned and super pet friendly — super clean — abundance of amenities offered for the price you pay (continental breakfast, fireplace suites, happy hour (honor system by suggested donation), game room (vintage games i.e. arcade Galaga and Pacman), wine tasting (crackers/​cheese/​olives), s’mores around the fire pit — ALL inclusive during your stay and yes 2 awesome LABS, Kona and Sandy)
Great surprise upon our arrival was a birthday cake for the hubby. Now that speak volumes about their customer service. We will DEFINITELY be back and stay with them.

I miss this place soooooo much! Warm, cozy, welcoming, clean, relaxing, and just awesome in every way. Every 5 star review is on point and I’m so glad we decided to stay here to get the true cabin feeling while visiting Tahoe. Brian was a great host and made us feel at home. We stayed in the True West room which provided a kitchenette, queen size bed, fireplace, direct tv, Netflix, Blu Ray player, and an amazing view. I have to mention that the water pressure from the shower head was ahhhhhmmmmaaazzzziiinnngggg!!! This was our anniversary trip and when we walked into our room there was a delicious chocolate cake and chocolate chip cookies waiting for us. Thank you so much for that! :)
Some of my highlights include the yummy Belgian waffles, Happy Hour wine and cheese, the Honor Bar, the fire pit, did I mention their shower??? Lol to be honest there’s so much that it would be a shame to leave anything out so you should definitely go check it out for yourself. Can’t wait to go back!!!

This was a great decision, we were going to stay at Montbleu but after reading through all the reviews changed to this location, and I am so glad we did. We were greeted very politely by Brian and then he showed us around property even though it was dark and cold. He then walked us to our rooms and explained everything in clear details. The Happy hour is great, there is a honor bar with lots of different alcohol. From 7 – 9 pm they have the fire — pit going for you to make Smores. This place all in all is great I will come here again with my whole family so that they all can enjoy Tahoe.

This is the kind of place Unilocal 5 star reviews are made of. Came in June 2015 and remember it vividly.
It is bed and breakfast perfection. The owners and their pups greet you warmly when you come in and it feels like you’re in an old friends home. Amazing board game room with skee ball too. Honor system bar with all kinds of liquor and beer on tap. Great breakfasts. Awesome happy hour with wine and s’mores stuff. Free bikes too — they have a great path that’s close to the Lake.
The room itself is extremely clean (yes even being a dog friendly hotel — there wasn’t any dog hair or dog smell on anything). It’s decorated in a very cozy way and my room even had a fire place. The bed was so comfy.
The hospitality is genuine so tip well and leave them a review because places like this make Lake Tahoe and Unilocal just a wonderful place.

We recently stayed at Fireside Lodge for our 35^th anniversary and had a wonderful time.
I discovered them when I typed «dog friendly lodging in tahoe» into Unilocal.They were #1 and that rating is well earned.
The owners obviously love what they are doing and their enthusiasm shows. I told them it was our anniversary and they had a small chocolate cake, flowers and champagne on ice in our room. Dave showed us around and met our Corgi who liked hanging around the resident Golden Labs, Sandy and Kona.
We enjoyed the game room which included antique arcade games, air hockey and Skeeball. The Skeeball game shoots out tickets which you can redeem for prizes. There are also antiques decorating the entire property. I fell in love with the Tootsie Pop owl lunch box.
We stayed in Snowshoe and found it to be charming. The bed is very comfortable (lots of pillow choices that my husband appreciated as he finds most hotel pillows to be too thick and end up hurting his neck) and there is a small kitchen with a microwave, fridge, coffee maker plus dishware if you decide to eat in. Also, good water pressure in the shower!
What struck me is how truly dog friendly the lodge is. While we were there we found most of the guests had dogs with them. We were able to bring our dog into the lobby, game room and patio while we got some wine and cheese, played skeeball or roasted s’mores by the fire pit. My husband loved the Lagunitas on tap. They offer continental breakfast, wine and cheese in the early evening and s’mores from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There is always water, snacks and fruit available in the lobby. They also offer kayaks and bicycles for their guests. The patio has comfortable seating and a hammock as well.
They also have some good quality Fireside souvenirs that you can purchase in the lobby. Their mugs are especially nice.
Within a couple miles is the Tallack Historic site and the popular Kiva Beach which is also very dog friendly. We went there two days in a row and just hung out for hours. So serene.
Another nice aspect to staying here is that there are a few dining options within walking distance, a great hamburger place, a taqueria, a bakery and an upscale restaurant (which is across the road) and you’re just a short drive from the «Y» and all that South Shore has to offer.
We will return and I’ve recommended them to our family as well.

My husband really wanted to stay at this place for a long time. We finally did over the Labor Day weekend! We didn’t make it to their lodge but they reserved us instead to a big nice house. We found ourselves in front of a big vacation house surrounded by woods. A three bedroom complete with all amenities! It’s huge just to think that it’s just me and the hubby. Kitchen that is so perfect to just stay and make breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Nice bathroom. Living room was very cozy (although remote control will confuse you a little bit). Fireplace… sigh! I already miss the place.
The view at night time was magnificent. Together with the hot tub sitting in the patio. Star gazing is perfect! It’s a perfect location for a get away. Very peaceful and relaxing.
It’s a mini vacation for us and we both loved it! We don’t want to leave the place and we wished we own it. We can’t wait to come back and hoping we’ll stay in the same location.

My husband and I just returned from an anniversary trip and we cannot make enough positive comments about this Tahoe gem! First and foremost, Bryan, the manager, is a delight. He is friendly, welcoming, helpful, and so positive. The owners are also so personable! They truly want you to have a great time. We really enjoyed talking with them. We were greeted with warm chocolate chip cookies and an anniversary cake.
The rooms are charming and themed. There is a common room, relaxation room with sauna, and game room (including Skeeball that gives out tickets for the prize cabinet). There is an outside seating area with music and fire pit. Guests can use both the BBQ grill or full kitchen. There are so many thoughtful amenities it is hard to list them all.
Every morning, there is breakfast and fresh coffee. You can make your own waffles and top them with a wide variety of toppings. I favored Nutella, berries, and coconut. The berries, likely fresh frozen, were a little cold so I microvaved them for a sec. Yum! They also have bagels, English Muffins, cereal, gluten free options, juice, hot chocolate, and hard boiled eggs. They always have snacks on hand including fruit. Happy hour is from 5 – 7, complimentary wine and cheese are included. There is an honor bar which is a mixologists dream! There is a suggestion of 5 – 7 $. Did I mention the Lagunitas on tap? From 7 on, it is complimentary s’mores time. Folks sit around the fire pit, chat, and devour the goodness that is s’mores. Other amenities include Netflix, DVDs, including family, books, and games.
Now…the best part? This is such a dog friendly place. Our boy was greeted by the 2 lodge labs, Sandy and Kona. He and Sandy wrestled and played catch together. Joy! He was allowed everywhere and he was treated like a guest. The place is very clean and they make great effort to remain dog friendly and meticulous. They are located right on the bike path so we were Abe to walk to Kiva beach which is dog friendly. They have great restaraunt recommendations too. Kona, the elder states dog, will visit in your room.
We are already planning our return trip!

The bedrooms are set along a row like a motel with a common area with lounge game room etc. they have an outdoor fire pit with fixings for smores
They also have a wine happy hour and a well-​stocked honor bar in the communal area
The game room has air hockey, Galaga (yes!!) and another arcade game plus lots of board games and an extensive Dvd library
Rooms have Netflix DVD players, direct tv, and a fridge. Very pleased with everything

I’m updating as we are on our second visit and still love this place. We got to experience the S’mores this trip. What a fun experience! Get Dave to teach you how to roast the perfect marshmallow.

I decided to take a quick vacation to South Lake Tahoe because of the reviews for this place. So glad I did. I had a wonderful time with sightseeing, skiing at Sierra at Tahoe, seeing a show at Harveys, etc.
Dave and Christine, the owners are very inviting and knowledgeable about their community. Kona and Sandy (the labs) were also amazing. In fact Kona would go on walks with me and my dog down the street. Kona also spent some time in our room.
Hoping to go back next ski season.

GREAT hosts/​Customer Service! SUPER Dog Friendly!!! Our two dogs were allowed to go ANYWHERE we did, which is very rare with most establishments. If you love spending time with your dogs, stay here when you go to Tahoe!
Evans (fine dining) is in walking distance. And a short drive to all major casino’s.
Rooms were Adorable & bed was comfy!
LOVED the arcade, soooo much fun for all ages! Kids would absolutely LOVE it here!!! Snacks and drinks throughout the day. Wine & cheese between 5pm-​7pm was wonderful! Smores at night… they think of everything!
The owners Dave & Christine take pride in their establishment & it shows! They were VERY gracious and it was very much appreciate by my husband Phil and I.
We can’t wait to come back with our dogs when we visit South Shore Lake Tahoe!
