I love this place! Fantastic pierogis and great prices. They also have excellent breakfasts.

This place flat-out surprised me. I saw the good reviews but still didn’t get my hopes up, expecting another disappointment like Brown’s. And when I walked in, my hopes dropped further — just a diner-esque little corner plaza building, with worn-down décor and neglected front desk. But the food is great. I had the lemon rice soup, which was great. Not too acidic or starchy, just homemade tasting. And the variety platter that included stuffed cabbage, pierogies of each filling flavor, sausage and sauerkraut. The sauerkraut tastes like the real deal. It actually tasted fermented and not just boiled down with vinegar like a lot of places do. The pierogies were huge, reasonably stuffed, and doughy. And my favorite was oddly the stuffed cabbage. The stuffing was moist, airy, and just fell apart when cutting into it. It tasted like a mixture of beef and pork, which is pretty traditional Polish. My wife, who is overly picky, really liked her pierogies, but could only eat 2 of the 6 that came with an $ 8 meal. My mom, 100% German/Austrian, loved it. Oh, and service was friendly in a motherly sort of way. The waitress was very nice to our 3-year old daughter, and food was served fairly quickly. I’ll definitely be back, and hope this place can hang in there.

Top notch but not a very fancy place. They are only open 8 – 8 most days but they do what the do perfectly. Home made soups that are fantastic, desserts amazing and food that tastes amazing. If you want a good home made meal give this place a try.

Finally decided to try Alexander’s tonight since I’ve been meaning to. There aren’t very many options in town besides Coney Islands and pizza, so I was looking forward to trying something new. I had read some decent reviews and after a friend was there tonight I decided to get a carry out. Very glad I did! I decided to try the Polish Plate Combo so I could try several things at once. The sausage and cabbage had great flavor and the cabbage was cooked perfectly without being too mushy as it often can be. The combo included one of each of the pierogies they offer. Sauerkraut, potato and cheese. I think they needed a bit more salt but other than that they were delicious. My husband loved the stuffed cabbage and pickle soup as well. This is definitely going to be a new go to for us.

Love Polish food but don’t run across it very often. So, when we wanted some grub to take in to the Witch’s Hat Brewery next door, Alexander’s was an easy call. It just wasn’t a really good one. We got the pierogi and cabbage roll dinners, dill pickle soup on the side with both. The soup wasn’t bad, though it was a bit more starchy than most, with less dilly tang. The cabbage roll filling had a decent flavor, but the rolls themselves were overcooked and couldn’t hold together when cut. I don’t know if the mashed potatoes and gravy were of the«instant» variety but they tasted that way, and the corn on the side was straight from a can. The pierogi were large but skimpy on the filling. The cheese ones had a pleasant sweet taste and would have been enjoyable with a better filling/dough ratio. But the potato version lacked any flavor beyond the dough and the kraut ones offered merely a hint. Honestly, these oily half-cooked dough blobs left me longing from the frozen pierogi I can get at the grocery. Maybe Alexander’s traditional diner selections are better. But I’m not making it a mission to find out.

Being a true Polack, I find myself craving dill pickle soup. Had heard of this place & finally decided to give it a try. Upon entering, the smell of kielbasa permeated the air. You could also savor the kraut waifing throughout the restaurant. Such great smells !! The staff was busy but very friendly and told us just to take a seat where ever we wanted. And we did! The menu is quite extensive but what caught my eye was the daily specials… AYCE fish & chips, frog legs, smelt, tilapia & a 21 pc shrimp dinner, just to name a few. All dinner include either soup, salad, cole slaw or applesauce. We decided to order the Polish plate which was ONLY $ 8.95. Had the DELICIOUS dill pickle soup to start & it was served in a large bowl — piping hot. The Polish Plate consisted of 3 pierogis(kraut, potato & cheese) REAL mashed potatoes w/homemade gravy, smoked sausage AND a huge stuffed cabbage. I died & went to Polish heaven. We left totally stuffed & satisfied beyond belief. The portions are more than any place I’ve ever been to & will definitely return to try the seafood. Just sorry that I didn’t take pix of the food but you will just have to go & check it out for yourself. I double dog dare you !!!

We just moved to the area, which is much further from Hamtramck, and were hoping to discover a local place with good, Polish cuisine. We found it! My husband(who is 1st Gen Polish American) and I ordered Polish Plates with soup. Get this… you can have unlimited soup and switch up the type if you want to try more than one! Who does that?! And it’s not about being free or «a lot» of food, this is delicious soup and NOT watered down nonsense. We tried the dill soup which had the most pickle flavor, but not overwhelming, of any I’ve tried to date. After hearing we could have more or try another, we also tried a ½ cup of beef barley. It had a rich, dark brown stock that was loaded with seasonings and barley. Both soups were served piping hot too, which we loved! The Polish Plate included 3 giant pierogies(I tried one of each flavor), smoked sausage, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and a stuffed cabbage. Everything was delicious. Everything! To begin, it was homemade. The potatoes were real, of course, and the gravy was tasty(I’m not a big gravy fan, but this was good stuff). Even the cheese pierogie was tasty and not too sweet. The stuffed cabbage was a fantastic highlight! Less tomato-y than I’m used to, but it was stuffed to the hilt with a wonderfully flavorful stuffing.(I find that some places serve a bland rice/meat mixture, but this place isn’t afraid of flavor!) We agree that this place deserves 4 stars and two thumbs up. The only reason I can’t justify 5 stars is because the place is small and they jack up the heat; which I typically like, but it’s probably due to the fact that they lose a bunch of heat each time someone opens the door so you get a bit of hot/cold effect even if you’re sitting in the booths away from the door. It’s not extreme and wouldn’t stop me from coming back or getting takeout, that’s for sure!
