I really like this place. I am not a big fan of stouts and the Goldhaven Stout nails it! I ordered an entire pint, and this is a rarity for me when there is a great saison on tap to compete. The beers have definitely progressed and improved. It takes time to figure out tanks, life, the flow. They have definitely gotten into the groove. The atmosphere is small and cozy, like drinking in your living room. So proud of this town for producing some of the best beer around. And if you are a triple fan… The Saint. Do it.

Local gem. They know good beer! Very knowledgable brewer. Great atmosphere as well. If you’re looking for a diverse sampler, try out this brewery.

Best Michigan beer that I’ve ever tasted. I’m an avid beer fest person. I also home brew. Anyone can make hoppy beer. Jeff makes true craft beer. He rotates often. Everything I’ve had from him has been at least an 8 out of 10. The other reviews here would be revised if they went more than once. I have tried every beer ever made so far. I was also the first paying customer. Open Mic on Thursdays. And like many breweries. He brings in food trucks from time to time. Yes his Belgians are amazing. His stout was also top notch. He makes a barley wine he calls Red Tap. It’s by far my favorite. It’s like a perfect steak in a glass. you don’t need food when you drink this one. Recently he made a tomato Basil which I thought was odd. It was very good and I don’t like tomatoes lol. I go to Michigan breweries and like 1 or 2 beers they make. I’ve been all over the State and the U.P. I’ve got paddles and extra from some and could not drink them. Jeff simply doesn’t make a bad beer. If you pass through South Lyon and don’t stop at Third Monk, you should be ashamed to call yourself a beer drinker.

I should preface this by saying I don’t particularly love belgians. Normally I would say that this is a preference and can’t review based on it but in this case I can. Belgians were the only thing on the menu; therefore, under my rule of Unilocal I can’t give this place a 3. I really would like this place to have come onto the scene and hit a homerun with some crowd favorites like stouts and IPAs, but there is just nothing there for me. The owner seemed very passionate and knowledgeable about beer and his product. A little bit on the awkward side which kind of matches the ambiance of the place(no offense.) It was a Friday at around 8 o’clock and we were 3 of about 8 people in there. I’d love for more people to go there because it had the atmosphere like you walked into church late. I suppose they got have livened up things a bit with some hymns though. In all seriousness, it is more of a place to grab a book and drink a few beers. Unfortunately, I could just do that in my own house. The seating is pretty tight and you’d definitely be crammed in there if there were more people. With competition popping up all around and witch’s hat being in the same town, I just don’t see this place lasting on a rather niche market. I feel like it could definitely survive in a bigger city with more foot traffic but not South Lyon. If they ever decide to put out a line of great IPAs, stouts, and porters I’d give them another shot. I do wish them the best as I’d LOVE to have another great watering hole in town!

Beer was decent but I am more of a hops lover than the maltiness of a belgian. That’s probably why the Blonde stood out most to me and I’d probably come back for it. Jeff exhibits pride of ownership and a wealth of brewing knowledge. The tap room is simply decorated with some memorabilia from Third Monk Records and has a dart board. Foodwise, there are some salty snacks for purchase.
