Stony’s is a burger joint with a nice location right by the train station in downtown. The backyard seating is very nice especially now as the nice weather is starting. The prices are fair, the menu is limited. The service was hard to find, after my food was brought I did not see a server and cleared my table and deposited the trash myself. The problem I had is that the burger was BLAND I am guessing that must be the choice of the owners. There was no seasoning at all and no salt or pepper or the table. The bun was too large and also flavorless. I like this location, but the food I had left a lot to be desired.

Average burger place. The food is brought to you after you order and pay. The staff were nice enough. answered questions and offered suggestions. The Turkey burger was ok. kinda thin in comparison to whole foods or another place that makes their patties, and the fries were cold. Not sure if I’ll be back. The menu has a few God sounding options though.

Stony’s Salad is MYFAVORITESALAD ever! I can eat them 3x’s a week and never tire of them. They also make delicious milk shakes. And yes, the sweet potato fries are pretty legendary.

Another great Unilocal recommendation! Looking for a place to get a quick delish lunch in South Orange, look no further. Friendly staff and affordable prices with tasty food make this one a keeper. Can’t remember the names of the sandwiches but mine was grilled chicken with bacon, avocado, lettuce, cheese and ginger mayo. My husbands had mozzarella and roasted peppers and we shared a cheese fry. Freshly made lunch for two for under 25.00 give this one a try!

Food typical fast food from restaurant depo, older lady at counter nasty and has no customer service skills, a waste of a hard earned dollar.

I’ve never been more disrespected by a serving staff. The cook decided to debate whether or not to give me some extra cheese for my cheese fries. After I said it wasn’t that big of an issue and that I can do without the cheese, the cook thought it wise to throw the cheese fries at me. Managers were on location and showed no concern towards me as a customer. I’ve been going to Stony’s for years and always loved their food but they have lost not just me as a customer but friends at Seton Hall and family friends from the village. Thankfully, there’s always more spots around town to grab a burger and fries. Disheartening, unprofessional and plainly rude. This is not how business should be done, especially not in the kind and caring village of South Orange.

For a place that prides in their burgers and hot dogs… Well, they have some improving to do in my opinion. First of — working hours. If it says on the board/website/Facebook that they close at 9 pm, the grills are shut off at 8:30 … sooo no burgers or hot food until closing. Maybe that should be posted somewhere. Second — service. Friendly as a box of rocks is a compliment in this case. The cashiers are rude and most of the time would tap their foot/fingers while waiting for you to order. Lastly — the food. Burgers are A-OK, haven’t tried the hot dogs. The chili is mild, pretty standard. Their lemonade, however, is fantastic and so are the milkshakes. It’s a descent spot for lunch, but don’t expect too much.

Friendly enough place but seriously overpriced and sort of generic. They project the image of cute, independent business with real food but really the burgers are frozen patties and the milkshakes are corn syrup… can’t beat the location though, it’s a pleasant enough place to eat fries while waiting for the train

I had a nice lunch at Stony’s Saturday afternoon with a group of six friends. You order at the counter and sit down to wait for your food. I got a turkey burger with broccoli rabe and avocado. The burger was pretty good and the sweet potato fries were delicious– thin and crunchy! Overall, a good lunch.

Decent spot. Neither major impressive nor disappointing. Good burgers, has almost a 5 guys style to it allowing you whatever toppings you choose. They have a great chicken sandwich with avocado, mozzarella etc. Fries are good not great but good nothing that stands out. I had the rib eye sandwich tonight and it was okay. Unseasoned thin cut rib eye with grilled onions and cheese on a pretty good baguette. The sandwich could use a bit of salt. All in all it’s a decent spot for a quick bite.

Lunch for 3(2 kids and 1 adult) cost me 25.00. Free refills on large drinks, cute area outback to eat outside. Good service, pretty quick. Cool place! I enjoyed my wings !!

Is a good place to grab a burger. Like the previous Unilocalers reviewing this place the sweet potatoes are worth it. I am a vegetarian so finding a good place is a pain in the derrière at times. Is decent and worth the price. The veggie burgers are good along with the sweet potatoes fries. The cashiers at time when taking the order by phone tends to put you in a long hold ehem 20 mins hearing the conversation from the background. For which I know avoid calling hem to order by phone, go in person and avoid that scenario. As for the fries, love them. Mix them with mayo and ketchup and is a yummy fest. Lastly they sell cupcakes from Gigi’s which are divine! I would had deducted half a star because of the order by phone incident but I go there whenever I need my fries fix.

Good little burger joint right in the heart of town. Burgers were cooked correctly and to the correct temperature. They have crinkle fries which are awesome. The staff could be a little more attentive and with it period plus they’re ordering system seems to be a little off.

Went here for lunch today and got the double bomber, bacon cheese burger and I must say it was quite good. But it had some minor issues. I don’t care for those giant buns where you’re getting more bread than meat, not to mention if you have loads of other toppings on there. Also the bacon could’ve been a little more done. Other than that the burger had a nice grilled flavor and was hot when I unwrapped it. They are generous with the small fries order I got. Speaking of generous, they gave plenty of napkins and ketchup which is very nice. Since I got take out I can’t say too much about the actual place but it seems nice, decent seating as well as outdoor seating. I’d say this is on par with five guys. Five guys has the unlimited refill drinks but I’d like to try the varied menu here beyond their burger which was A-OK.

I’ve eaten here as well as picked up. I really like the ambiance. There’s an outdoor area that’s great for families/children. I’ve ordered the steak sandwich, burgers, grilled cheese and fish tacos. Everything is decent, nothing particularly spectacular or special, just decent. The staff is always really nice, however, you may wait a bit if you call an order in, not for your order, but I’ve been on hold a few times for a really long time. When this happens, I just hang up and call back, at which time my order is taken immediately which leads me to believe that they simply forget about phone calls sometimes.

Honestly, any time I have called to place an order I have been put on hold for at least 2 minutes. Last night was the best. I called when I was about 15 minutes away to place my order after work and was immediately told to hold. The girl child that answered the phone must have just placed the receiver down, because I was able to hear everything that was going on… every person placing an order, paying, etc., you get the picture. I was actually on hold for the entire 15 minutes it took me to drive by Stoney’s on my way home. There was no parking, so I decided to skip it. Now I know why the number is busy 50% of the time. Food is average at best, the staff need to learn customer service. Boo to Stoney’s

The food is mediocre. Burger was quite dry, but the sweet potato fries were excellent. With all this said. It is EXTREMELY overpriced. Especially for what it is. South orange just does not really have much to offer.

Really delicious for take out. I get the Sloan Street Chicken sandwich which is a huge portion. It comes with two pieces of chicken and the broccoli rabe is a great addition. I don’t know if they make their own balsamic vinaigrette, but there is something greatly different about it! Sweet potato fries are yummy too!
