For a members only retail club, it is a long way from an exclusive shopping experience. We managed to win/test a free membership last year. We were automatically renewed for this year(not free). Convenient? Tricky. I have learned that there are some good things to be found at Sam’s: triple berry Sunday, sample day, cupcakes, and Lysol Professional. There are also some frustrating things: they always seem to be out of ice cream or berries, they don’t accept Visa, the bathroom is disgusting, the billing process is deceptive. So… Is it worth it? Not unless you really need to buy things in bulk and don’t mind the special credit card. That said, I love those stupid Lysol wipes! If we manage to cancel our membership next year I might go begging others for access to those wipes.

I give this 5 stars all because of Lucy in customer service and her supervisor who was on his way out the door from work. I spent a couple of hours in SAMs today picking up things for gifts and food for Memorial Day cookout with friends. I had a basket full and spent some time in line only to pile my things upon the belt for the cashier to tell me that my membership was expired. I explained that I had renewed it online in April and I had the receipt to show her. She told me I would have to go to customer service and get it renewed. I told her that I did renew it and showed her the receipt. She never looked at it or me and said I would have to put everything back in my cart and go to customer service and they would check me out. I guess i wasn’t moving fast enough I was trying to give the people behind me room so she started throwing, yes throwing stuff in my basket. I asked her to not smash my fruit or chips as she sat the large can of bush baked beans on top of them then with an attitude she told me that she saw it and wasn’t going to hurt anything but that the can was heavy. I said I know I picked it up and put it in the basket but not on top of my food. She made a remark about that’s what she was saying do I just waited for her to finish got my card, thanked her and went to customer service. Now the other part of me wanted to leave that basket full of $ 200.00 stuff there since her attitude was so bad but the better part of me that mama and daddy raised couldn’t do it! I went to customer service where this wonderful mature woman assisted me. She read my receipt checked the computer and stated yes you did pay in April and it is renewed let me get s manager over to fix this. She called and paged and called and paged then she flagged a supervisor going out the door and stated that hated to bother him but asked if he would help me. He said sure came over saw that I had paid and that my receipt showed that and got into the computer and renewed it just like that. We both thanked him and I told both how much I appreciated their time. Lucy checked me out with lightening speed and with a great attitude thanking me for my patience and I was thanking her for hers. My bill was $ 275.57. What started out with one persons bad attitude could have turned a customer away and is probably why her line was short. No one wanted to deal with her. But thanks Lucy and her supervisor they went above and beyond.

As a branch of Wal-Mart(the absolute WORST shopping experience on plant earth), I cannot give a 5 star rating to this establishment. If you’re a member, you already know what to expect. The store is clean and the pharmacy staff are very friendly and knowledgable. If you want a quick meal to clog your cardiovascular system, their snack bar is available and fairly clean from what you can see from the front.(I really like their ice cream for some odd reason) There can be long lines at times at this location, but hey… do Southaven residents really work these days? You can surely find most of them either here or their sister property – Wally World.

I don’t feel the need to write a review on the great wholesale discounts one receives when shopping at a SAM’s Club. The prices are fair when coupled with the membership fee’s, add the free samples and you’ve got yourself a wholesome and enjoyable shopping experience whether it’s the 10lb jar of crunchy peanut butter you came for, or the 2/$ 5 Doritos. I’m only here to tell you about the checkout experience. JUMPING-JESUS-ON-A-POGO-STICK they’ve added self-checkout lanes! The dark clouds of cashier-misery separated for a brief moment, and laser beam of red glory shot down to bless us with a cashier stand of our own! Here’s the setup… you get everything the snotty underwhelming cashier gets… INCLUDING A WIRELESSLASERGUN! …Did I mention the wireless laser gun? I know what you’re asking yourself, «Self, do they give you that sweet laser gun too?» CHECKYES. Follow up question, «How pissed were all of the patrons behind me in line while I was shooting them in the eye Call of Duty-style with what I believed was a super-powered death laser instead of checking out my 80lb bag of diet dog food, 9 dozen eggs, and new truck-bed liner?» Answer: DOESN’T MATTER. HADLASERGUN. So, in summary, you don’t need a club card to get in on Sundays… Laser tag anyone?
