I have been eating here for years. I always order take out. The people on the phone are very kind and helpful. When I call, I usually just tell them what I want to eat and they make a meal for me. Today I wanted shrimp and veggies with lo mein and they happily made an off — menu lunch meal for me. The food is always piping hot and really good. I highly recommend this place.

1. Food is not so good 2. The prices are different from the menu, you won’t know the price until get your bill. 3. Tips will be added by waiter,(15%-20%, not before tax) 4. Bad service

I went for lunch and ate in. The Hot and Sour soup was the best ever. The egg roll was crispy and very big and tasty. The Shrimp Fried Rice was fantastic with larger shrimp than most places. I will be going back. Because of health problems I can’t eat very spicy food but they make their food to order and will reduce the spiciness of a dish if make a special request when you’re ordering.

omg yes yes finally Chinese cuisine where I love the entire meal– not just the rice or the meat. The sweet and sour sauce is great. shrimp fried rice is always awesome(big shrimp) and the gravy is good and not salty! Oh yea and the best part is — they have the best shrimp egg foo young! Always friendly and ready when I call in —

I mean it was ok. the sauces were on the sweet side. the service was by far the best part of the experience, the lady waiting on us was super nice. the food is very much standard fare, and dinners comr with an egg roll and a soup. but overall, nothing to get terribly excited about. I wouldn’t be opposed to returning, but will definitely keep looking around the area.

We tried Hunan Garden for the first time based on the reviews here on Unilocal. It’s truly a GEM in the world of Chinese-American restaurants! As many others have reported, the service was outstanding: genuinely friendly, attentive, and the food came out quickly and steaming hot. Everything we ordered tasted of fresh ingredients. The Moo Shu Pork was excellent, possibly the best we’ve ever had. I think we have some credibility in this opinion given we’ve eaten Chinese food in the«Chinatown» areas of dozens of major American cities, including New York and San Francisco. The Ma Po Tofu was very good. Hot and Sour soup was not the best but certainly not the worst. It would benefit from a touch more vinegar(or whatever this restaurant uses to get the sour component). The Steamed Dumplings had a terrific exterior, with house-made wrappers. The filling for the dumplings needed more seasoning but, again, they were still enjoyable. Some nice touches that cemented my intention to return: beverage glasses re-filled often and without having to ask for this, left-overs packed up for you(on a cart, so that nothing splashes onto your clothing), the check and payment handled very quickly. Fair warning: the interior of the restaurant is clean but bare, with just one or two framed things on the wall. It’s probably looked the same way for the past 30 years however this is the kind of place you go to for the food and the service rather than the ambiance.

I grew up down the street from Hunan, so I’ve been going here for years. They’re very nice, and their food has always been consistently good American Chinese. My favorite dishes are the staples, pretty much. Sweet and sour chicken, almond chicken, orange and garlic chicken, moo shu pork. If you order the moo shu, ask for extra pancakes and hoisin sauce… because sometimes they forget them all together, and that’s not fun. Their hot and sour soup it pretty decent, and their egg drop and won ton are standard, yet satisfying. I also like to order the house fried rice instead of the plain; it comes with little shrimp and bits of various meats. Yummy. Their egg rolls are also quite decent, I usually order an extra one. We did dine in once, for a birtheday party, and while they have a fully stocked bar, beers were, like, $ 8. Order carry-out and stop at the liquor store on the way home instead.

This is the best Chicken Hunan ever! Inside doesn’t look like much, but the food is incredible. This has been a staple in our family for over 20 years. You are missing out if you don’t at least try it. Once again, Hunan chicken is Legendary!

Wound up at this restaurant as a fluke to dinner plans for the night and couldn’t have been any happier. The friendliest staff(possibly owners) and the food was authentic Chinese food offerings for a change! Definitely try this place out if you’re in the area… Besides you don’t have many other options.

Great Chinese restaurant. Came here for the first time and got carry out. The staff were very nice. We ordered the Hunan Chicken, Deluxe Lo Mein, and Egg Foo Yung. It was all very good. The Hunan Chicken was soooo so good. I am definitely ordering it again when I return!

Excellent Chinese food and great service. The owners are very personable and make you feel like you’re at home. Their Hunan chicken is some of the best I’ve had. Their combination plates are reasonably priced and their portion sizes are large. Great place for take out and dining in. I definitely recommend if you pass by to stop in or are looking for a consistent Chinese restaurant.

Their hunan chicken is out of this world. If you’re going here for the first time, I highly recommend giving it a try, you won’t be disappointed!

I used to eat here all the time for over 20 years. I used to go there almost every Saturday for a General Tso’s chicken lunch combination. The last 3 times I went the chicken was prepared rock hard and was unpleasant to eat. The hot and sour soup used to be rich and fIavorful but has recently been watered down. I give a restaurant 3 times to get it right. Well, this was the third strike and I don’t plan on returning. The waitresses are nice. Sadly, the food has gone downhill and I won’t plan on driving 20 minutes from my home on Saturday when I have a better Chinese place across the street.

One of my fave local spots. The Hunan Chicken is a dish unlike any other Chinese restaurants version. This is one of their top dishes. I order it extra crispy no celery. The celery is good if you like it, I just like it without. Its comparable to sweet and sour chicken but much better. There are some hot peppers on the side within it that are nice spice if you eat one. I’ve known the couple that owns the place for awhile so I have some bias. Good people.

This is a hole in the wall, mom and pop, old school Chinese Restaurant. Great food and service with moderate prices. Kung Pao Chicken and Hot and Sour Soup were among the best I’ve had. Full flavor and generous portions. This place is nothing to look at from the outside and the inside is dated and bland but you will not be disappointed with your dinner. I’ll be sure to check this one out again.

Great food and great service. I particularly enjoy the General Tso’s Chicken. The cuts of chicken are high quality and the sauce is perfect(a touch of sweet, the right amount of spice, and almost no hint of soy). My wife loves the«chips» they bring out and the wonton soup.

I’ve been looking for a good Chinese food place in metro Detroit since I moved here in 2011. After settling for places with less than stellar meat and disgusting egg rolls, I stumbled onto this place. I ordered a sesame chicken dinner meal, with white rice and an egg roll, and ordered crab meat rangoons. The meat was high quality, and the egg roll and rangoons were delicious. I’ll definitely go back!

I’ve been eating here for years now, and Hunan Garden has practically spoiled me from ever eating at another Chinese Restaurant again. Reasonable prices, large portionns, friendly service(I’m greeted by name) and the best General Tso Chicken I’ve ever head. Perfect egg rolls too, hot, crispy, and no shrimp!

In all honesty, I have to give this restaurant another chance. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken, and, at least for me, there was not enough chicken in the sauce. Nonetheless, it was pretty good, but I wouldn’t say it was the best I’ve ever had. As far as the variety of menu options, their menu offers quite a variety of dishes, many of which I have never seen on the menus of Chinese restaurants. I would like to try some of the other items in future visits.
