Shield’s

I have a Shield’s location by my house with better quality food and service, this location was alright the one time I went but there is a clear winner between the two locations. These guys need to up their game a bit.

Haven’t really tried much else on the menu here other than pizza and salad. Service is OK most of the time.

I was there recently. The Hostess said I could sit at any of the empty seats. When I Did, however, nobody came to take my order for twenty minutes. I finally got a manager. This was a Dinner visit. I noticed they have a pizza slice special-​but only at Lunch. You can’t get a slice for love or money at Dinner. Given that this is a Pizza joint, they may want to rethink this. Getting the check took quite a long time, too. I didn’t bother with Dessert.

Been a long time since we were here, last! Always thought this pizza was the best tasting pie ever! Happened bye yesterday, while in area and ordered the same style pizza as before. Pizza was served and looked great as always and that’s where the ”great” drops hard to 1 star! Little to no taste except for the raw, bland, tomato paste taste, right straight out the can! No flavor! Ordered onion, pepperoni as always with ”very little” onion and pepperoni! Crust was fair, about the same as a cheaply priced Ceases, so why the hype, here? Who voted this the best pizza in town? Did we just happen in at a bad time, maybe where the top chef was out to lunch? lol Sorry to say, we wont be going back ”at our expense” hoping the chef is back! Too bad! So sad! Many other pizza joints much closer to home and much less pricey!

Buddy’s pizza is by far the best pizza in metro Detroit. Shield’s is a close second! Unfortunately, they only have two locations so I don’t go here very often but when I do I never have a disappointing meal. The antipasto salad is loaded with meat and cheese and the house dressing is awesome. Not too strong, just right.
My favorite pizza here is the BBQ Chicken pizza. Not sure what BBQ sauce they use but it’s delicious.
My only complaint is the service. Sometimes I’ve had great meals, other times not so much. It real hit and miss. Seems like the later in the evening you go, the worse the service.

Good service, good pizza and good appetizers… what else could you want? The place is the same as it has been since it has always been. It has kept up its decent quality and that is hard to find in this day an age, I do not get in as often as I used to but when I do I know the food and the service will both be top notch. I actually like it here better than Buddy;s as the service is quicker and the food seems more fresh.

First time visit (Buddy’s fan). Great food and service is out of this world. Atmosphere fantastic. Will be back again and again.

Host a big/​small event should book this place! Staff and ownership are amazing! Food is always top notch. Always doing great food specials! Drink specials are amazing! $ 2 dollar 22oz for anything domestic on draft! Mixed drinks are always poured to perfection! All around great place:)

I am a fan of Shields pizza, so please don’t let my two stars for this location deter you from venturing out to other locations. I have been to this location many of times. At one point many years ago, this was the only location I would go to. But after my most recent experience I wouldn’t come back. Ill stick to the location in troy.
I had a coupon for a family meal, which includes, 2 topping pizza, salad, and bread sticks. I have ordered this same deal at the troy location mulitiple times and have been satisitlified with the quality of food I received. The Southfield location really disappointed me. The pizza was over done. It was made sloppily like they just threw something together. The toppings were in one cluster as if it would have taken to much energy and time for the staff to spread them out.
The salad and breadsticks were the savers in this meal. I absolutely love shields antipasto salad with house dressing it’s just wonderful. Thats what really took this review from one star to two. But no matter how well they did on their sides, the pizza is the main course; thats where this location really missed the mark. It reminded me why I stopped going to this location in the first place. It saddens me because I feel the level of shields standards have really went down.

It’s ok I only go once a year when my old high school class has and event. Last I was here I think it’s was 2 years ago I had an appetizer chicken strips. 2^nd time there In July 2015 I had was chips and nacho dip not bad but the drinks are high rum and coke $ 7.00? Plus the drink was a little watered down Will not do buy that again. Even though I only come here once every few years this will not be my hangout.

I have been to this place 20 or 30 times and have always been satisfied. If you like Square deep dish pizza, then you will enjoy Shields Pizzeria. I usually get the supreme Pizza and a order of antipasto salad for the table. The portions are heavy so 2 to 3 squares of pizza will be the typical portion size.

Was in town last weekend on business, and had a free Sunday night. So it was either order pizza and eat in the room, or take a short ride… the latter prevailed.
Decided to sit at the bar instead of taking up a table to myself. The bartender was very friendly, I think her name was Tara? Anyway, chatty and efficient without being overly-​hovering. .
But the Greek pizza, (sigh) was disappointing. The crust reminded me of Jet’s Pizza, but the cheese wasn’t even melted in the center. There was way too much Feta, and although I like Feta, half the amount would’ve been perfectly balanced.
3 stars based solely on service.

Pizza was bland and soggy. I find brick cheese to be awful, but even ignoring that personal preference, the pizza had no redeeming qualities. They use dried basil on the margherita, which is inexcusable. The breadsticks (which were free) were like the frozen foodservice type favored by elementary school cafeterias. The salads were also pretty sad and were mostly just iceberg lettuce with a few things on top for decoration. This is the type of food I’d expect at a child’s birthday party, the clown wandering the dining room affirmed this feeling. There was a menu of daily specials featuring more exotic offerings like fried catfish and salmon, though I’d hesitate to order an entrée from a pizza restaurant that can’t even get pizza right.
Service, however, was very good.

Great pizza and fun sports setting for Detroit fans. Deep dish small square was more then enough for one. Crispy outer crust, gooey inside, lots of sauce-​perfect!

Been the for lunch and dinner time 6 times in the past 8 months. Look at the dated posted of course lol. always helps.

To this day, even though I no longer live in Southfield or MI, Shield’s has been one of the best places I’ve had pizza. Period. The crust, the sauce, the toppings… they’re everything.

First time at this location. Service was good, pizza and salad were great. Small antipasto salad enough for two people. Very good pizza!

Growing up in Detroit/​Metro Detroit, shield’s was always good pizza, but always second fiddle to buddy’s pizza (similar places hence the comparison). After having it for the first time in 10 + years, I feel that exact same way.
Came here on a Saturday and to my surprise, it was quite empty, started off with the wings in both plum and buffalo sauce (both sauces were good, but the buffalo was better), now while I hate big wings, these wings were way too small (still good though). Now for the pizza I had the meat lovers and a pepperoni/​garlic pizza. While the pizza was very very good, the only negative thing I can say is that the ground beef here taste like it’s seasoned with taco seasoning. Other than that though, it is pretty good pizza here. I just at the end, while it is very good, it will always be one step below buddy’s in every aspect.
