Good food. Seating is limited, food is prepared in back, so you don’t get to see the show. No frills, quick, fresh sushi. A ton of variety. Probably better suited as a carry out. Don’t come here if your pretentious, you’ll find something to complain about. Will order again, worth paying for.

Okay, 2.5 stars. Ambiance was lovely — intimate, properly lit, modern furniture, tile details. The ginger tea was also really nice — hot, spicy, a little sweet, and not too sharp. I really wanted to like the food as much as everything else, but the quality was uneven. We ordered a Green River, Green Grass AAC, Yellowtail and Scallion(Negihamachi), and Spicy Scallop. The Green River was excellent — the sauce had a good flavor balance, it was a reasonable size, and it was plated well. The Green Grass AAC was basically seaweed salad on top of an avocado, asparagus, and cucumber roll. I liked the seaweed salad, and I liked the AAC, but putting them together made them hard to eat and jumbled the flavors. I recommend ordering them as separate items(or deconstructing the dish). Yellowtail and Scallion — I’ve loved this roll at other spots for the delicate flavor balance, but this one was made with subpar yellowtail — too much fishy flavor, not the smooth texture I expected. I don’t know if it was made with fish that had been frozen, but I wouldn’t be shocked. I made it palatable by smothering it in soy sauce and wasabi, but good sushi shouldn’t need to be seasoned at the table. Lastly, the spicy scallop. I ate one piece and skipped the rest. It was very hot with no balance to the flavor at all — I think there was cucumber in it, but I couldn’t taste it at /all/. When the waitress asked how everything was, she seemed to assume we would say ‘fine,’ and was stepping away from the table when I explained that the spicy scallop roll was over spiced. I tried to explain that good sushi should have a balanced flavor profile, but I think she was a little irritated. She said she would tell the chef, but no one apologized or took any action, so order spicy items at your own risk. My wife and I theorized, based on the menu and what was good, that they cater to a more Americanized audience(makes sense based on the location) and that they haven’t figured out their inventory levels yet. Stick with things they go through a lot of and away from items that might sit around for a while. The cooked and vegan items seemed better than the raw ones. A disproportionate number of menu items include cream cheese or are tempuraed, neither of which are things I prefer. I hope they will shrink their menu and switch to some seasonal specials instead of trying to keep so much in stock. I would visit again though keeping the above thoughts in mind.

Ordered the sushi deluxe platter. It was fantastic. Came with miso and house salad. Ordered 3 more pieces of nigiri, not because I was still hungry, because it was so delicious that I couldn’t stop myself. If you’re in the area stop by and try it out. I will be including this place in my rotation without a doubt. SAYONARA!

First of all, why would you write a negative review of someone’s business based on the fact that the cooks were eating in a corner before you came in? What a sour puss. Joa Sushi was my fave sushi place in Dearborn and shall remain my fave since they relocated. Their rolls are always complex and delicious, plus they always remember to include my side of spicy mayo. I’ve tried so many sushi places since moving downriver and Joa still rules the most.

Stopped in here for lunch with the wifey after reading Unilocal reviews and Pekin Tokyo is closed on Monday. I’ve seen lots of restaurants open and close in this location but this was quite tasty. Don’t let the outside fool you, it is very clean inside and well laid out. There is not a lot of room but it accommodates 6 – 7 tables(ranging for 2 to 4 seaters) plus a bar serving about 10. I had a lunch combination of eel with cucumber and shrimp california, both were good. My wife had a michigan roll, this was quite good and she was quite happy. We topped this off with a small order of gyoza. Overall, I am impressed and will return again for sure.

We where waiting for this place to open for weeks and finally heard it was open. Tried it out for the first time today and we both loved it. It’s a pretty small ‘hole in the wall’ kind of location that used to be a tubby’s drive-thru, it has a bar seating and some 4-person tables but is overall pretty small seating. The interior is kind of cute and well maintained so the size isn’t a reflection of the business itself. They do offer take-out, so if seating is full you can still get your tasty grub. We got a salmon roll, unagi cucumber roll, and spicy crunch california roll with two soft drinks and soups. Price’s where really reasonable, especially if you’re used to going to Black Pine Tree and paying $ 8 for a single serving. Salmon tasted fresh and the unagi was super tasty. The spicy crunch roll was topped with a generous amount of tempura bits and sauce. All the rolls where filled generously and their miso was easily our favorite out of all the local places. They offer weekday lunch specials, and hot dinner meals like unagi rice bowl’s and udon soup. As far as alcohol goes it looked pretty standard for a sushi restaurant, nothing over the top or too fancy. They serve canned soft drinks(which I prefer, just a personal paranoia thing) as well as the standard green tea variations offered hot or iced. Wifi is free with a posted password on the wall and I had no issues connecting to it. There appeared to be one woman working front of house who was genuinely polite and quick with service. I got the impression English is not her first language so she didn’t speak conversationally with anyone at the restaurant, but was still genuinely nice and helpful. We really liked this place and overall prefer it to the other local places.

This place just opened(moved from Dearborn) into a place that’s decently run-down. It has been a Tubby’s, pizza places, coney islands, actually quite a few businesses have come and gone here, and all failed. My boyfriend wanted sushi and wanted to try it. So we did. It was quite literally a toss-up between this and McDonalds new all day breakfast… Don’t ask why. First off, the crew was eating in the corner, all smacking their lips(annoying as hell). The menu was filled with a lot of color-inaccurate/low-res/disproportionate photos. We ordered, the crew got up to cook, and we got our food in 5 – 6 min. That was the only good part Because we tried a new place, we didn’t try extravagant rolls. We got 2 Las Vegas rolls and a Yum Yum roll to split. Honestly, they were the worst we have had. They were served on foil on a plate. They were chewy and the rice was just… Weird. I needed a lot of soy to just deal with the taste. For the price(about $ 9+ per roll), I would definitely recommend going to Black Pine Tree or many other sushi places. No other customers were there when we got there, and not one person walked in while we were there. Unfortunately, I think, this will be another failure at this building. It’s probably cursed.

I couldn’t wait for this place to open! I got the spicy roll combo. It came with a spicy California roll, a spicy tuna roll, a spicy salmon roll, the house salad and soup. The sushi was perfect; the nori was a little tough but I like that and the rice didn’t have that sweet taste that I hate. The soup was basically broth with 4 cubes of tofu in it and the salad came dressed with some sort of citrus dressing. It was all delicious and I can’t wait to have it again.
