Heroes is a good place if you’re looking for Games Workshop, Infinity, Malifaux, Pathfinder, etc. The main issue I had was with the owner John. He needs a little help with his people skills. He comes off like Conan O’Brien with Aspergers Syndrome. Some days I’ve been in there and he’s been kind of friendly, in an autistic way. Other times he’s been curt and dismissive. I could just as easily spend my hobby money online and save quite a bit doing it too. His attitude and demeanor needs a lot of work, and if he doesn’t get it together, I’m gonna do just that. His brother is super friendly, I wish he’d run the register more often.

Stereotypes are crashing down! I assumed that when I walked in the door of Heroes Games and Hobbies, I would be greeted by Aragorn, Son of Arathorn. Instead I was greeted by a very sweet Labrador retriever. I just happened to be at a Reed High game on Thursday when I got the hunger. I high tailed it across Bering to hit up Smiths for some snacks. I was stuffing my face heading back across the street when Heroes Games and Hobbies caught my eye. I decided today was the day I stick my head in and see what this place is about. I was greeted by a very friendly gentleman, and an even friendlier lab. There was some sort of lively game going on on a giant table in the back of the store. I have zero experience with gaming or models or any of the things they carry, but I found it all very fascinating. The gentleman that seemed to be in charge was really helpful and chatted with me about what he carries in the store. The overall feel of the store is very inviting and I enjoyed browsing while watching a large table of gamers enjoying the hell out of what appeared to be the most confusing game I’ve ever seen. Eventually I found the game wall and I have to say folks… I’ve been denying my inner-nerd because these games all sounded so amazing. These are not your typical card games or boggle, they are intricate games of strategy. I found one that sounded interesting and am now waiting for someone to play with me. Any nerdy takers?

Great Warhammer and 40k selection and various other table top war games. Owners are friendly and willing to do special orders. They have a smaller selection of RPG books but keep most of the main books and newest supplements for all the biggest games in stock. Lots of gaming tables and cool scenery if you are itching for a fight you can usually pick up a Warhammer game on tables that are nicer than the one you have at home. Support your local game stores. They love the hobby and are here for us!

This is a great shop with very professional and helpful owners and patrons. Selection is phenomenal, and their service is top notch. John and Ben(owners) were very welcoming and knowledgeable, and helped to make this a great experience. I’m from out of town, but was somewhat jealous of the great environment and awesome community that this local game store fosters. D&D, WH40k, WHF, CCGs, Board Games, you name it, this store has something for the small gaming nerd in all of us. Awesome Awesome shop. I encourage you to stop by, even if you aren’t really into the hobby, it will be worth your time.

Since I wrote my original review for Heroes, they have changed location, and, more recently, the owner has changed the focus of the shop from gaming to hobbies. This is great for war gamers and hobbyists but not so great for board gamers and RPG players. The owner and staff here are still great people, and I would love to throw them more business, but personally, they just don’t carry what I need anymore.

What a great shop. They carry a lot of good games with a «geek» feel to them(less mainstream stuff). If you’re into wargaming or miniatures at all, you have to come take a look. They lose a star for their board game prices. I’m not a wargamer, so I don’t know if that’s priced well, but they have one hell of a selection. They have a back room for games and events, and they carry some RPG books, though the selection of D&D stuff seems to be far more limited than either their board game or Warhammer selections. Overall, it’s a great place to go locally for Magic: The Gathering, Warhammer, and(probably) Dungeons and Dragons stuff, though unless you’re hurting for a board game, I’d go online. The selection is very good, carrying a lot of European games, but comparatively overpriced since I can get a better deal online after shipping.

Great shop, Good people, and an all around fun and inviting atmosphere. That being said this is primarily a war gaming store, they have a great selection of miniatures and codex, terrain and some good board games but there actual Role Playing section is more of an after thought. It’s stocked with the normal D&D 3.5 and 4.0 there are some Rifts modules and a smattering of this and that, now don’t get me wrong they can order you anything you need as easily as walking to the counter and asking but they are forced to keep there on-hand selection small due to the fact stated previously it is primarily a War Gaming store.

When I lived in Reno this store was my «FLGS» — friendly local game store. I’ve had the chance to visit recently and report that they have improved upon their selection! The shop is well stocked and laid out. Staff is professional and quite helpful when needed; and unobtrusive when not. I love this place, and if you like games at all, you will too. If you don’t, I’ll be pleased to break out my Imperial Guard Mordians and show you what for!
