I’m not sure what the hype is about this place. It’s an overpriced restaurant with not the best tasting dishes. There are not many choices on the menu to begin with… Between my husband and I, we had the pork chop and chicken breast. Both were bland I have to say. We ordered an off the menu fried calamari for an appetizer and that also could have used improvement. The service is great as well as the drinks. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend the place but glad we checked it out.

Outstanding burgers, fantastic local craft beer list… Quite nice for fine dining as well, but I’m in it for the bar. Head to the right when you walk in – and don’t be bashful: play some Bocce in the back.

This place is definitely the best restaurant in Sparta. Great to have a romantic dinner or a night out with friends. One side of the place is fine dining the other side is a bar/dance floor. They have live entertainment every weekend with a huge beer selection. The staff is very friendly and very informative about the menu and the beer selection.

This is the place to go for beer in Sussex and the surrounding areas. The tap list is bar none and they have plenty of tap takeovers to promote new and local breweries. The bartenders are the real heroes at Moho, keeping everyone happy even when the bar is full. They will suggest drinks if your selection is out and know the different styles in and out. Get here and drink the beer!

people from NJ, never left the mountain town are the customers giving good ratings; while the wanna be gangster staff reenacts if we know who their father is; or their crew? Only to give way to the 30 year old living in his moms house that is discussing his MAA moves. completely pretentious. 2 stars for the drink option only. If you’re a guy that is going to go with a group, you can get by it; but I would never bring my girl again. Drive to the middle of no where, you have to convince yourself the food is good; or get disappointed after the travel and this experience. people from NJ get ripped off on going out to eat, and never know it. it not even about $ though, if I want that experience I will go to Bay Ridge or Howard Beach.

Our 2nd visit was on Christmas Day & the food once again was stupendous! The staff here is excellent & I can’t say enough about the food! I had the avocado & lobster spring rolls for an appetizer & for the main course, a nice sized piece of chilean sea bass. My husband had salmon. Others in party had the pork chop, a ravioli special & a lobster pot pie! All were excellent. We will return again!

If you live in the Sparta area, this is the place to go. Steven and Rachel the owners spared no expense in the design and ambience of this gem. The staff is excellent and amazingly knowledgeable on the myriad of craft beers they sell. If you’re really into cocktails the bar is manned by trained mixologists including Anthony and Kasey who can make you a very special drink based upon the spirit that you want. Love the fact that they serve beer from local breweries in the Claremont vodka which is new to New Jersey. If you like vodka martinis ask for the hand stuff to blue cheese olives. The personal pizzas are spectacular and this is a fantastic place to host an event. If you’re reading this review and have never been to the Mohawk house it is definitely worth going and keep in mind you can ask for the bar menu regardless of where you were seated.

The moho is a beautiful building with a great view from a large, newly finished rear patio. The food is largely from local farms and ranches — very fresh. They do have up to 50 beers on tap and they are all craft selections. The tap selection always changes, and they don’t keep the same beers on tap. The problem is they don’t select proper beer styles for the seasons. Meaning; you will find stouts, strong ales, dubbels, imperial porters and barrel aged ales dominating the menu in the middle of july. This is nice if you are new to craft beer, and havnt tried these yet. But most people don’t want a 15% milk stout when its 90 degrees outside, hence this is why those beers tend to sit on tap for a month! They have a GREAT happy hr everyday from 2−6pm(all beer/drinks $ 2 off). Growlers are half off on most sundays. No NFL sunday ticket(just 2 tvs in bar area). The bartenders are great too.

This restaurant has convinced me that people in general do not know good food(I read the Unilocal reviews before I went) or, I got the backup kitchen staff to cook for my group tonight. Paying these prices for average small portions is an insult. This place is beautiful, the menu is written so well with great selections and the service was great, but I was SODISAPPOINTED in the food. When I dine out the food is the most important part. We had 3 Appetizers and 5 entrees and shared within our group. No one was happy. We went elsewhere for dessert after our Sub-ordinary meal. I could write in detail all the negatives but won’t waste your time. Save your hard earned money and go somewhere else, unless food quality is not important to you. This Foodie will not return.

Amazing food and service coupled with the best local ingredients. You’ll be glad you drove here no matter how far. Our server, Amanda, was outstanding and didn’t miss a single thing, even with our extensive list of food sensitivities.

We just celebrated our Godson’s 25 birthday here last Sunday and have immediately become a fan. The location, kind of hidden up on a hill, requires sharp eyes but worth reading Unilocal for location tips(that’s what we did)! The main room is cavernous — like a castle dining room. Classy and cool at the same time. The lighting was«romantic» but if you are like me, a member of the AARP set, you might call it dim. After reading the recommendations from fellow Unilocalers, my wife and I had their chicken. In a word, wow! Inventive use of cheese, spice and, wait for it, bruschetta topping mark the dish. Moist chicken perfectly cooked. The potatoes were flavored with a hint of lemon and cooked with a golden crust. I tried the Unilocal-recommended scallop wrapped in bacon appetizer. Fresh seafood and crisp bacon make this a smart choice. Our fellow diners had a variety of dishes — steak, short ribs(a rave) and the lobster special. All made yummy noises and were pleased with their selection. Service was efficient and professional — a pleasant surprise for very suburban Sparta. This out of the way eatery hits all of the notes. Great food, inviting atmosphere, professional service and prices that reflect the quality. A winner. Note: they are known for their beer selection, but we didn’t have any on this trip. Expect an update when we make a much anticipated return trip.

I’m the biggest fan of this place mainly because of their alligator tacos. They’re amazing. I love how perfectly chewy they are but boy are they spicy. I love spicy food and I can definitely say it’s the perfect amount of spice. I am also a fan of their charcuterie board and seasonal drinks. The blueberry mojito never fails. Their buffalo chicken pizza is okay but the buffalo sauce to bleu cheese ratio is ehhh. Definitely could use more chicken. The summer risotto was lacking the risotto as well, way too many vegtables, more like a salad dish than a risotto dish or the vegetables need to be cut into smaller pieces.

Very nice rest with a great beer selection. Bit on the pricy side, but the food was fresh. I had the scallops, which were good. As expected the portion was small. I was also there with a group of loud guys, and they still treated us well. I would go back for the right occasion.

Things I loved: — The view. See cute pics others attached. — The band that was playing when we left dinner — The great service and personal recommendations, like for the delicious Bloody Mary — The Bloody Mary(s) and the heartburn they gave me the next day — Valet parking — That you almost throw up on the windy roads to even get here, but then it’s worth it — The bathrooms are clean, which my grandma always said means a clean kitchen — The chicken Milanese — CHOCOLATELAVACAKE That is all.

Mohawk house is the perfect place to step away and relax! Whether with family or with your spouse! Excellent service and incredible food! We only visited the bar this time around. If you like tuna, you have to try the tuna tar tar tacos at the bar. The sweet potato fries are crispy with a buttery cinnamon taste and the brick oven pizzas always exceed expectations! We had the wild deer pizza which had fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil and just the right amount of sauce. There is entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings bringing you back to college days. Looking for the perfect place to have fun on a Friday night or any day brunch… Check out the Mohawk house!

Had some trouble finding the place so don’t follow the Unilocal address/location. It’s on 517, right before the intersection with 181. It’s behind the Methodist Church(which is across from the Shell gas station). Pointing out landmarks b/c we totally passed the place but didn’t actually notice it — it’s kind of on a hill but there is a sign by the road. I had a fantastic experience here. On all counts. Service: Exceptional. From the second we walked in. Hostess was super nice, friendly. Bartender was fantastic. Tom welcomed us from the moment we walked into the bar area and was super friendly and accommodating. Offered us water when we didn’t ask for it(this is a huge bonus in my book because I always forget to ask for water!) Helped us get set up outside after we decided to eat out there and even came out and checked on us. Location/ambiance: Beautiful spot. The outdoor seating is so nice. Since I don’t live around there, it’s a huge deal for me to sit outside and see a horizon of green treetops and a picturesque sunset. They have bocce ball back there too and spots to just sit and relax and enjoy the view. The restaurant itself is really cozy too. Has a mountain lodge sort of feel. The bar area has a large window that overlooks the beautiful view as well. There is a fancier dining room as well, outdoor seating or the bar area. So depending on how you’re feeling — you’ve got options. Beer: Great selection. They do flights and you can select either 4 or 6. Food: Only tried the pizza but it was very good. Not the best but solid. Thin crust(either regular or whole wheat beer). Tried the white deer & buffalo — both were really good. I highly recommend this spot!

My family and I went here for Easter Lunch/Dinner and I gotta say, this place is F.A.N.C.Y. Well, maybe not like a 5 star hotel fancy. More like«I couldn’t afford Aspen so I went to Colorado Springs instead» if you catch my drift. The place is set in this old-timey mountain lodge looking place(hence the Aspen reference) with rooms and rooms of different dining areas. We were seated on the second floor with a nice view of the surrounding forest so it was pretty good for those who enjoy atmosphere while you’re dining. It’s kinda like Gatsby’s Mountain Lodge Retreat when he was hiding from the feds. Now for the food. We ordered their Easter special appetizer which was an assortment of cheeses and meats like prosciutto and capicola. For the entrée I ordered the Pecan and Ginger Crusted Salmon which was actually very good! The salmon was cooked perfectly and the pecans brought an interesting twist on the on the overall flavor of it. My only critique is that while there WAS flavor, there wasn’t ENOUGH. Y’know? For the cocktails, I ordered the Bourbon Street which was Bourbon, lime, pineapple, and simple syrup. It was very strong yet refreshing which is something I like to find a good balance of. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at the Mohawk House. BUT let it be known, eat here if you’re willing to break the bank. The prices are verrrrry hefty. The reasoning is that the food is high-quality and everything is from local farms, which I totally support so I understand as to why it is pretty hefty in terms of the price.

The Mohawk House is an interesting place and one of my favorites. To the left, a formal fancy dining area. To the right, a classy bar with cocktails, wine, and a pretty impressive craft beer selection. I’ll typically find at least 3 or 4 craft beers that I want to try. I’ve only spent time in the bar/casual area. Note that you can still order the fine dining dishes in the bar area, in addition to tasty bar snacks, sandwiches, burgers, salads and pizzas. I highly recommend whatever their seasonal tacos are(the hoisin duck confit tacos on my last visit were outstanding!), and make sure to ask for the beer crust on your pizza. I have yet to have a seasonal salad that I didn’t like. It can get crowded and loud on the weekends but the atmosphere is fun, the bar bands are always great, and you’re probably there to knock a few beers back, so who cares? Need I remind you of the excellent craft beers?

The best beer selection in Sussex County, and they claim all of NJ… That’s up for debate, but 50 taps with a few rarities thrown is always a great place to go out of your way for. Their food is wonderful, but it is priced accordingly, so bring your wallet, haha. I’ve been a few times and generally tend to enjoy the specials a bit more than the regular menu, but their personal pizzas are excellent as well. The beer crust is not to be missed! The bar area is more informal, and where I tend to find myself most of the time as the dining room has more of an air of sophistication to it — I prefer a more relaxed atmosphere myself, and all of the same menu is available there as well.
