Adam & Eve

Today, I took a 15 year old to buy her first vibrator, which was awesome. What was less awesome is that it was very hard to find a store that would let an adolescent who is under 18 look at sex toys with a parent or guardian. I totally understand that there are state laws around pornography, which is one reason why I prefer stores that have their porn sectioned off into an 18 and over section instead of limiting the entire store. Sadly, none of those stores exist in Spokane. For a bit, we thought that we would have to order for her offline, which would have sucked, since part of the goal was to teach her how to shop for sex toys without being ashamed or weirded out. Certainly doable online, but much better to do in a brick and mortar store.
Fortunately, the kid insisted that we try one more store and we stopped in Adam and Eve. The sex toys are directly in with the porn, which meant that she couldn’t go back. However, the staff were awesome and let her wait by the front desk, far, far away from the pornography, and we brought testers up to her. The staff were helpful, knowledgable and exactly the kind of staff that I was telling her to look for in a good sex store.
I am not a fan of having vibrators right next to the porn, both because it makes shipping with a teenager harder and because I actually don’t like pornography at all, so for both the kid’s and my own comfort, it would be better if they weren’t. However, the flexible and helpful staff were a definite plus.
