I was skeptical not going to lie, and I also went because the name is so ridiculous. I was pleasantly surprised! Our server Stephanie(I think that was her name) added to our experience, super friendly and attentive. We had the cranberry brie for an appetizer it was great for the entrees we had Gorgonzola chicken and date stuffed pork chop, both were outstanding. This was one of the best overall meals I’ve had in awhile, I definitely will recommend and come back!!!

A true gem. Quiet, low-key atmosphere. Perfect for a mid-day respite from a busy schedule. As a vegetarian I’m always thrilled to have choices. After reviewing the non-meat options I chose the Wild Mushroom Sub with a Caesar salad side. Accompanied by a very generous glass of house Chardonnay it was a perfect lunch. I highly recommend Herbal Essence Café.

Overall this was a pleasant experience. Nice atmosphere, quiet, clean, good service. The food was good — decent selection. Presentation was well done — portions were reasonable. This was my first time at Herbal Essence — it was a Saturday evening and most places were busy… they had open seating and, considering the small space hey have, had room to spare… would definitely go back again to sample more of the menu. Our waitress was prompt, good people skills. I’ll be honest though — what sold me the most was the desert… double/triple chocolate cake… well worth it… worth going back for too.

The food was delish! Ambience was romantic & cozy. Service was amazing. We will definitely come here again. Perfect date night spot. The bacon gorgonzola sauce on their gorgonzola chicken was out of this world!

The food at Herbal Essence is outstanding. The servers were very attentive and accomodating. They have taken culinary artistry to another level. Not only was the food delicious but its presentation is extraordinary. A restaurant we will definitely return turn again.

Really enjoyed this place. We had the cranberry stuffed Brie en croute as an appetizer, and it was done perfectly. The sliced pear with balsamic reduction went perfectly with the cheese. The house salad was a good combination of flavors, while the croûton ring made for a great presentation it did make for difficult eating. My wife ordered the salmon as an entrée and it was good, just a touch more cooked than her preference. Not dry, just not to her preference. I had the shrimp linguine, and it was also very good. Six large shrimp that allowed me to enjoy a bite of shrimp with every bite of pasta. The linguine was an absolutely perfect al dente that made me giddy. The flavors were well balanced, but I did have to add salt to bring it all together. Great atmosphere and super friendly wait staff made for a great first experience. To top it all off, it is walking distance to the INBPAC. We will dine here again!

Best food, best artful presentation, and best price! We were most impressed with our experience at Herbal Essence. The taste and presentation of selections are better than what we have experienced on cruise ships. Plus, the prices are what you would pay at a chain restaurant. Our sincere gratitude to Herbal Essence employees. Val Lee(John 3:16 in the Bible)

I do really like Herbal Essence, I have been dining and recomending it for many years. Something is just missing the last few times I have gone there. They have a prize winning house salad. The bowl is a thin slice of delicious bread toasted then becomes the croûton, a fan of pear and candies nuts. It is a work of art as well as delicious. The last time it was just thrown together and less than the beauty I was expecting. I ordered a special, the lamb. Ordered mid rare, it arrived well done, at least. It tasted fine and was pretty tender but it lacked the juicyness I was craving. Service was pleasant, but very slow. Desserts were tasty enough from a small selection. I loved the bread pudding. I will continue patronizing HE but I do hope my last visit was not a downward trend.

This was the first time here. let me say the service is outstanding. I would go back just for the service. The wines by the bottle weren’t to badly priced. The food was ok. I think my salmon cakes were little dry, but I did taste my friends steak on their salad and that was amazing. Cute little place right downtown.

Delicious & great service. Reasonably priced for being so good-we got a 3 course meal for $ 28, everything was awesome! That clam chowder-oh man! Drinks were deliciously made & dessert(Apple pie) was so good. I can’t say enough good things about HEC!

So this is my second time at herbal. I brought my friend with me on Valentines Day expecting a good experience however it was mediocre at best. It took us over 20 minutes to get our appetizers and 15 for our initial drinks. The restaurant was not busy as there were many open tables. Dinner was $ 80 per couple which included a skimpy four course meal… see pictures. The waitress did however made sure that all of her tables were aware that she was away for eight months in Mexico thus trying for a free pass on forgetting about her service manners. Nobody came out to check on us and our food tasting experience nor did they thank us for coming in to visit. The bottom line is if you are going to have a fixed menu and expect folks to pay that much money for a meal I would assume that you would want your patrons experiences to be better than ours was. Not sure if I’m coming back.

This was our first time here & we had a groupon. We made a reservation although there was only one other table there besides us. We went for dinner and brought my very well behaved nearly 6 year old. While they don’t have a kids menu, they made several suggestions of things that they could make her. She decided to have the crab cakes appetizer as her entrée though. When the choice is between«kid» food & crab cakes she usually chooses the tastier choice. I ordered the Gorgonzola chicken, another ordered the spinach artichoke baked halibut, and the last in our party got the huckleberry ny strip. I got to taste everything(although was sad to share my own too cause it was so good!) and everything was pretty tasty. The crab cakes seemed a little mushier than I normally like them but kiddo ate every bite. Not only did everything taste yummy it also looked pretty… what I could see of it. It’s really dimly lit & out candle died before we got our meal. It took a bit of time to get our meals, but I’ll always wait a bit longer if it comes out tasting like our food did. We got a couple desserts to share, the chocolate cake was ok and the cheesecake was not too sweet which I liked. I voted for the tiramisu pie they had but alas I was overruled. Maybe next time, because I’m sure we will be back.

Really good little place… The server was so nice and helpful. The food was great! We got the spinach & artichoke egg rolls which were really good! The dinner salad comes in a rolled bread«croûton» with pear, filberts, and truffle dressing… It was really a great fresh salad… We got the salmon & the beef Wellington… Both were awesome… I really enjoyed the beef Wellington! We will come back for sure… Great nice place to come eat before a show!

Service was great. Dimly lit atmosphere, so much so I had troubles taking pics of the food. Ordered the creole shrimp for an appetizer and it was delicious. 6 huge shrimp served with a mini loaf of crostini bread for $ 9! For my main dish I ordered the shrimp linguini and it was delightful, served with fresh rosemary, sundried tomatoes, capers in a white wine sauce. Not too heavy and perfect portion size. The Hot Toddy we ordered was huge and stiff. Must have been in a 16oz mug. Half way through it my BF had a buzz. I ordered a salad to go with my dinner which looked great but it was so so compared to the extreme flavors of the other dishes we ordered. Next time I’ll skip the salad and order dessert.

I don’t know what happened. Tried Herbal Essence for lunch on a Friday and it was not a pleasant experience. Which was kind of a sad disappointment because we chose this place based on Unilocal reviews. The restaurant was darkly lit and depressing(walls and ceiling poorly painted dark colors and large screen TV showing CNN tragedies on mute) on a Friday afternoon and we were the only ones in there during the lunch hour. Well, the only paying people– there were many of the employees’ children and friends wandering the restaurant. The depressing interior and lack of customers should have been a tip off but we stayed just in case appearances were deceiving. They weren’t. My steak and brie salad was compiled of «leftovers» pieces and I was unable to finish it. If you know me, that statement alone is a shock. How do you drain all the flavor out of a piece of brie? It was like eating a soggy cracker– mushy in texture and completely void of taste. It simply had to have been old. Hubby’s Kobe burger was greasy and boring. No forethought or love went into the creation or presentations of these dishes and it was evident in the taste. Read the filtered reviews below and you will see this is not an isolated experience as of late. A waste of money and calories in my experience. We won’t be back.

I almost give it 5 stars and would have done 4.5 if I could. This is a very good restaurant. Cozy ambiance in downtown Spokane, with excellent food. We started with the hummus and chips which was great, moved onto the crabcakes which were very good. Then I had a cup of the chowder(soup or salad come with the entrees) which was *wonderful*. And I am particular about my chowder generally only liking it in New England. While this was technically New England style chowder(i.e., white, with cream) it didn’t taste like it does in Boston but was very good nevertheless. That was the pleasant surprise of the evening. I had the NY Steak au poivre which was cooked exactly as I’d ordered(medium rare). While the pepper sauce was good, it wasn’t very strong and I was half hoping to get steak au poivre the way you do in France — literally covered in cracked peppercorns with a sauce. So while it wasn’t the real thing, either, it was nevertheless very good. Somehow we were talked into what I think was a piece of chocolate cake which was wonderful as well. We’d have preferred a cheese plate, but they didn’t have one — hey guys, think about that as an addition. All in all a great experience. Highly recommended.

My coworker and I are in town for a few days, and came here for Restaurant Week. The 3 course meal was $ 18, a great deal in my opinion, for the food that we got. I had the Crab Cakes which didn’t really taste like crab cakes but they were delicious with the chipotle sauce they were in. My friend had the Yukutan Chicken Tostadas, which were basically chicken in some delicious sauce on top of tostitos-like chips — not super fancy, but definitely tasty. For my second course I had the caesar salad which was pretty typical. We both ended with the Bacon & Date Stuffed Pork Loin, which was yummy and reminded me of something I’d eat around Christmas time. I was also a huge fan of their bread and garlic olive oil. Overall, it was definitely a solid meal, and at a great price! I’d give the restaurant a 3.5÷5!

Breaking out the five stars for this place. Here is the deal — they are not as fancy/expensive as Sante’s or Mizuna nor is their food at that caliber but what you get here are excellent meals a step below find dining but above a neighborhood bistro like Picabu at an incredible value. Because of this I have been visiting this place more and more for semi-casual dinners and lunches and everyone I have taken there has been impressed at the«value» of the meal given.
