Stopped in here on St Patrick’s day… luckily it was later in the day. The staff was very attentive and patient as we were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. The food was great and we didn’t have to wait long after ordering. Considering the day and how packed it got shortly after we were seating. Kudos to all involved for keeping happy and professional… Would I go back… yep(they have Guinness on tap :) Would I recommend it. Most definitely… If I were to have one critic, the Couger Gold burger I order ending up really soggy on the bottom because of the sauce on it… Didn’t matter at the time though as it was Delicious… Might try putting some on then a side also… Just a thought…

We were in and out in less than 1 hr, but didn’t feel like we were rushed. Heidi, our waitress, was really friendly and made us feel like we were old friends. If you’re looking for recommendations, I highly suggest the bacon stuffed tater tots with Cougar Gold cheese dip. It was ridiculously good! At the end of the meal Heidi suggested deep fried Oreos for dessert! Who had room?! We will definitely be back!

Not really impressed with their service this time. Been to the onion plenty of times in the past and last night’s expectations fell through. The hostess was not very cheery and happy like she did not want to be there and customer service didn’t matter to her. Pretty much we got seated with the attitude of someone who was like«oh um yeah here’s your seat and ure menus» she didn’t even want to tell us the special on the menus when my husband asked. She just layed down the specials menus and said yeah all ure specials r on this menu. And walked away. So rude and unprofessional, couldn’t obviously answer a simple question for like a minute of her time. Our server was very kind thank goodness, our hostess was really strange she walked over like twice washed the table next to us, walked away, came back and washed the seats. Very strange indeed. We had my brother-in-law and his daughter with us and they enjoyed their appetizers that came out along with my husband’s. They all had the deep fried bacon wrapped onion rings filled with mozzarella, and some deep fried bacon potato cheese balls with some kind of white cheese sause. Our main dishes took a lil longer to come out. My husband ordered there spicy chicken wrap with fries, he loved it alot and saved the 2nd one for lunch break at work. My niece had the same one as my husband. My brother-in-law had the shrimp and chips, I had the mahi mahi fish tacos GF. My dish came out cold like it had been sitting back there for sometime. So kinda disappointed this time. Hopefully next time it’ll b better and we won’t get the same hostess. The dessert was the best part for all of us that night. Deep fried Oreos with a side of hot chocolate syrup and whipped cream!

The Onion is an exceptional restaurant for a date night, girls night out, or dinner with family. The root beer on tap is some of the best root beer I have ever had and the Thai noodle salad is to die for. Also, the chili lime onion rings are the best onion rings I’ve ever had. The atmosphere is upbeat, fun, and unique. Waitresses are all amazing from my experiences here!

Haven’t been to the onion in a while but food and service has always been good. Went in today and my beef patty was well done(asked for medium) and the patty was not juicy and looked factory pressed. They used to have some of the best burgers in town.

This place has become a regular stop for my colleagues and I who come to Spokane regularly for business. I’ve tried the Philly cheese steak, the Thai chicken wrap, and the bison burger. On the last trip I found out that the fries are bottomless, which I was not aware of previously. The onion rings themselves seem to be hit or miss, depending on how well they were battered. I’m not much of a beer drinker, but their selection seems vast and changes pretty regularly to keep you interested over the course of multiple visits.

Went in for a quick bite last night. We ordered two burgers, 1 came with half of the ingredients and both came with avocado so unripe I couldn’t cut it with my fork. The burgers were extremely overcooked and neither of us came close to finishing our meals. The only reason for 2 stars instead of 1 was because our service was fantastic and our server was so nice. We could have gone to Red Robin or D. Lish’s and spent half as much for a way better burger. Get real.

For what it is,($ 9 burger+beer joint) its fine. This is not a restaurant for the health conscious or those concerned at all about what goes into their body. There are no real vegetarian options save for salads(hold the meat) and deep fried selections. There is only 1 vegan item on the menu and it likely was cross contaminated with other meats and was served to me with MAYO! I brought this to the attention of the waitress-who did confirm the faux pas with the cook, apologized for the establishment and offered to replace the dish. So kudos to her for that. Vegetarians and vegans do not choose an establishment like this to eat at so the low stars are really for those of us that come with a crowd and want expect to rely on the menu and trust that the establishment is truly trying to serve appropriately labeled foods.

We had the pleasure of eating here last night and it was awesome. Fantastic beer selection on tap! I had the Cougar gold burger which was cooked perfectly. The cheddar was so good. We had to try the pea salad which is fresh and to die for. Also had a couple onion rings which are huge and perfectly battered! DW had the porky burger with BBQ and bacon. Her only complaint was that the BBQ was to saucy. Check it out!

The Onion never disappoints. We travel to Spokane often and always make a point to stop in at least once while we’re there. I have tried various sandwiches, burgers, and other entrees and they’re consistently delicious. Most recently I tried the Cougar Gold burger. It came loaded with melty, sharp Cougar Gold cheese and other classic burger toppings(onion, lettuce, etc.). It was cooked perfectly – nice and juicy. Yum! Many menu items rotate relatively often, but plenty of favorites stay on the menu(e.g. the Hula Burger and The Big«O»). This approach definitely has its advantages and disadvantages: while the variety of options is always stellar, sometimes one of your new favorite dishes gets nixed for another new entrée. Once I ordered a wonderful teriyaki chicken over rice, which is no longer on the menu. That said, I can always find something I like at the Onion! The restaurant’s atmosphere is great. It’s a very large place with fun décor. The service is generally good, though it can be awfully slow, especially if the place is busy. Overall, the Onion is a solid place to consider if you’re looking for a lunch or dinner spot!

Such a great location with delicious food! Great atmosphere followed up with food that you want to finish to the last bite, but can’t because there’s too much. Onion rings are huge and popular, hence the name of the restaurant. Ordered the Spicy Polynesian Chicken Burger with fries. Cooked with perfection that satisfied the tastebuds.

One of the worst restaurant meals I’ve ever had. We waited 10 minutes for someone just to show up at the hostess station, that should have waved us off. I ordered what was called a Thai Noodle Salad which was 95% noodles, not a scrap of salad. Is the onion afraid of fresh vegetables? My uncle ordered the nachos, a big pile of chips with no cheese to speak of is what he said. Even the onion rings, which I remember being delicious in the past, were over brown, and DRIPPING with grease, very unappealing. Onion, call gordon ramsey, he’ll tell you to fire all the cooks and redo your menu otherwise your business will suffer a slow painful death

My husband and I were looking for a hot meal late at night and this was the only place open and I’m so glad it was! We sat at the bar and the bar tender was so friendly and entertaining but not too disruptive(perfect blend of personable and professional) and the food — OMG the food! I had a bowl of chowder and their Cajun tacos(highly recommend) and my husband had their, get this, mozzarella filled, bacon wrapped onion rings. Sounds like a heart attack but I snuck a few bites and they were amazing! Overall great service and great food!

The food was alright, nothing to write home about. The wait staff was very pleasant. The restaurant was being remodeled while I was there so sheets of black plastic were hanging everywhere. Necessary evil I guess. There were many burgers on the menu that I would try if I ever travel back to the area.

I have been to the Onion several times and each time I have been more than satisfied with my meal. The selection is full of unique items. I had the Monte Cristo which is deep fried in batter«county fair» style. It was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. The JJ philly cheese steak is also tasty. If you have room after your meal, the crème brûlée is outstanding. It comes in two sizes if you just want a taste. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and plan on visiting there again.

We had a fantastic dinner here at The Onion. The onion ring appetizer was delicious. The soup and salad dinner was good. Taste was top notch. Ice tea was dark and good flavor. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was clean and cozy with the pub like setting.

It’s not called The Onion for nothing. Onion rings here are a must have. Huge, sweet and greasy. Sounds like an interesting date :-) I’m partial to this place because my parents took us here as kids when vacationing. Nostalgia comes back every time. But we went to the one uptown, never to this downtown location, so it’s nice to try a new spot. I like this locale too. Relaxing and friendly service. Food was as good as I remember. Martinis were strong. I had a crab salad special that I wouldn’t get again. My old stand-by was the Blackened Cajun Chicken Pasta. I suppose this place is like an Applebee’s. But I like them too.

This place is great for onion rings! My friend and I ordered medium onion rings and wow it was a lot of rings! We should have order small. I ordered steak and shrimps. I would recommend steak but not shrimps. Shrimps were not tasty and not crispy. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans. They were very good. Prices were reasonable. If you eat alone or two, small onion rings would be the best option.

Every time I’ve been to Spokane, I’ve visited The Onion(either this site or on Division). I’ve always had great meals here. This time, it was only average, perhaps a bit above average. I can’t rate 3.5 stars so I’ll round up to 4. Granted, we were here on the day that the Bloomsday event took place, so perhaps this restaurant wasn’t up to speed this day. But we’ve been here before after Bloomsday and it’s never been so problematic. Unfortunately at this visit, the place was not up to snuff. We were a party of 6 and we didn’t mind waiting for an available table. The place was hopping, as was expected. We were eventually seated at a large table mid-restaurant. Our server was pleasant but it was obvious that she and the others working today were harried and we witnessed a few near-collisions of waiters as they entered and exited the kitchen with large trays of foods balanced on their shoulders. After we placed our orders, we waited. And waited. And waited. Yes, the place was totally full, and yes, we expected a wait. But after half an hour, we seriously thought they forgot about us. Our food came out after 36 minutes. If it were awesome food, all would have been forgotten. But no, it was just… okay. Some dishes were better than others, but some were downright bland. My spinach salad was good and fresh. My kid had a chicken apple brie burger and it had no taste to it, as if it weren’t seasoned at all. Two kids had burgers and said they were fantastic(I think the burgers here are what to get!) and my friend had a French Swiss Dip sandwich which she enjoyed. Alas! They no longer have their famous fried Oreo cookie on the menu! I had talked to my kids about this dessert for the longest time and they were so looking forward to it! So instead they ordered one large milkshake which the server divided up into four separate mini glasses, complete with whipped cream and a cherry on each! They were the perfect size and the kids loved them and, although it wasn’t the same as the fried Oreo, it was still a great dessert for them. Very nice that the server did this for them all!(Note: a fellow reviewer contacted me to say that these deep-fried Oreos were never on the menu, but this place will make them for you if you request it. I could have sworn they were on the menu years ago, and see the owner’s reply to my last review. Still, perhaps they’re only made if requested, to which I say: REQUESTTHEM! They are amazing!).

The Onion scored points for each star… 5 Stars to The Onion for being prepared for us. We ate at the Onion at 5:30, on a Friday night with 12 youth and 12 adults. We called about an hour ahead of time and the Onion was ready. When we arrived the place was near empty, when we leave around 7:15, it was packed with people waiting. 4 Stars to the staff. The service wasn’t quite up to par. We paid separately, by family, the staff knew how to take our orders and deliver the bill. The staff had a great attitude and were very friendly to the whole group. 3 Stars to the service. My drink(draft beer) came out 10 minutes after other bar drinks were delivered to our table of 6 adults. The food was even worse, the staff had a hard time finding out where the food went. 2 Stars to the over all restaurant. The whole place was tired, run down, out of date, and needs a full make over. 1 Star for the food. Blah, Bland, and just Bad. The menu looks intriguing, but the food was delivered cold and overall assembled poorly. I doubt that I will go back. I will not recommend to others.
