This Gonzaga University Art Museum is open Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm. Admission is always free. I recommend checking out the glass art by Dale Chihuly and the rotating exhibits. They also sponsor artist lectures. It’s not a large space, so you can quickly visit without getting that«visual fatigue» from giant museums. Rumor has it you can also book them for small events.

First off, I am not a fine art connoisseur but can share with you what I enjoy. This was my second visit. I saw«Manzana: the Wartime Photograhs of Anzel Adams» earlier this year. Today, I came to see David Hayes’ metal scultures displayed on the grounds outside and in the Chancellor’s Room. Their intense colors and bold shapes were a striking contrast against the green grass they sat upon, yet blended well with the architecture of the museum’s building. Much of what I’ve seen here is not stagnant nor boring. There are several Dale Chihuly blown glass pieces on permanent display, also in the Chancellor’s Room. That same room has a huge, expansive glass window overlooking the River Loop Trail and the Spokane River, with couches available on which to sit. No admission fee and there are some marked, free parking sites reserved for visitors. The parking lot is located at the end of Pearl Street, just south of Desmet Avenue, but be sure to log your car in with the friendly information desk staff inside the museum to avoid a campus parking infraction.
