Aside from one guy who is quite rude. If you don’t want to help people or have a constant smug of distaste on your face. Stay home(I no longer come in if I see you) — Otherwise, I’m treated well by other employees who are kind, find comic books for me and genuine *love to nerd out. Place has a pretty rad stash of old comics. I always leave feeling nostalgic and having spent $$ haha ! Thanks guys TG

This place is rad. I’m so glad there’s still a B&M comic shop in Spokane. The staff is friendly, the location is fantastic, and I find myself browsing for a while without getting uncomfortable or antsy. I appreciate their flat 10% everything policy, and it’s only a financial weakness on my part that I can’t afford to get a pull box anymore, but these are my go-to folks for all things sci-fi/fantasy.

The store is a geek haven with little frills and much character. Upon entry you are greeted by a dragon statue and a wall of comics. Furthermore, if gaming is your thing, your will find a large assortment of role playing game books, minis, board games and the like. The entire back of the store is dedicated to gaming tables and their late night hours allow you to play well into the evening. All of this probably stands as solid 4-star comic/gaming shop fare, and maybe it is, but it is the owner, John, and his staff who give Merlyn’s it’s 5th star and inspires the fierce loyalty you see from the fellow Unilocalers. Return a few times and will probably start being greeted by name. Come frequently and you’ll likely get a friendly recommendation on a great new game or comic you might enjoy. Open up a comic subscription box and you might find that they have tossed an extra no-pressure issue in there because it looked like something you like. I can’t say enough good about Merlyn’s and its staff. They are truly top notch and you owe it to yourself to become a regular of this local gem. Bottom line: Shops like Merlyn’s are the reason why you buy local and snub online merchant’s like amazon.

Went here for nostalgia’s sake and to support my «local brick and mortar store.» Walked around and didn’t find a whole lot relevant to my interests(old school gamer) and what was there was pretty spendy. Then this kid is at the counter lamenting out loud he rode his bike all the way down and was short two bucks. I asked what he was in for(thinking to cover his shortfall) and the cashier/clerk proceeds to lecture me about confidentiality/privacy. Seriously? These folks don’t have the games, don’t want to talk games; I’m out. It is sad that this place has fallen so far from its heyday.

Best comic book shop in Spokane, by far. I’ve always found the staff helpful and friendly. And I love that the entrance is guarded by a dragon, there is a TARDIS hiding in the back by the gaming tables, and the entrance to the bathroom… well, SPOILERS!

They were doing some re-organization when my husband and I came to check out the place. There were tables of kids in the back playing games and constructing models. Definitely a different scene in here. Merlyn’s has a ton of comics, action figures, t-shirts, and other merch. They had this Firefly flag for $ 40 I wanted really bad. Wish they had more Firefly/Serenity stuff, but I did get one of the comics. My husband got a couple Spawn comics and a zombie apocalypse book. I got stuck in the book section for a while, there’s an assortment of graphic novels, art collections, and novels there. I could’ve spent all day flipping through them. Merlyn’s offers 10% all the time and they have really good deals.

10% off evening and half off cover price for comics 2011 and older! Can’t beat the price. Old school comic shop plus games. Also now over 30 years old! Center on READING comics and not just collecting them.

Horrible customer service called to inquire if they had a couple of back issues. Person told me to come down and look. Seriously?

While I’m usually in Merlyn’s because my fiancé brings me along, I always appreciate the friendly staff. There are loads of playing tables in the back for all kinds of games, and this shop seems like a place where gamers can gather. I also noticed a board in the back where people post want ads for players or groups to play with.

Definitely the best comic book store in Spokane. They always update their new comics every Wednesday when new comics release, they update their back issued comic section frequently, and the store itself is always tidy and organized. They offer great discounts everyday, ten-percent off everything in the store and fifty-percent off of comics older than 2007, and their subscription service includes the ten-percent discount which is awesome for avid collectors. The staff are always friendly and attentive, and are always able to help with questions or concerns, and their product knowledge is top notch. John Waite the owner recognizes my girlfriend and I by name and is always willing to spare a minute with us which really makes want to come back and chat about the latest in comics. If you live in Spokane and love comics definitely stop at Merlyn’s.

Even if your not a Sci Fi Fantasy fan this is a fun stop. You might find a gift for some one who is a fan! Very helpful staff! Huge collection!

A perfectly decent local comic book store, but not the best. They don’t bag their books, and the store seems a little cluttered.
