The food is great for the price and there is a good beer selection. I really like this neighborhood and feel that The Elk has been around for a long time for a reason. Service can be slow sometimes, but staff is usually very friendly.

Great little spot in Spokane. Full of fun loving locals who enjoy good beer and food at a reasonable price. Staff is sways on their game.

Rude waiter on 3÷8÷16(lurchy guy with a beard), FSA food, not worth the drive or walk. With all the hand crafted foods available in Spokane, don’t waste your money or time on this one!

Food was great, service was great. Menu is always and consistently delicious. Atmosphere was cozy yet fun. Brownes addition has a great atmosphere and ambiance as it is. Will always come back here, live bringing out of town guests here.

Not bad, it’s basic pub fare. Service is good. I think it has a very devote following because there is nothing over the top about the food to rave about, I didn’t post a picture because its not worth the $ 11 blt. it’s just not special. There are some menu items a notch above bar food but otherwise its just a place to grab a beer. Maybe elk fest has done such a good job in wowing the hipster crowd who refuses to go outside of brownes addition that they keep coming back here. Sorry.

The Elk gets my vote for«favorite neighborhood pub that’s not in my neighborhood.» Every time I’m back in Spokane, this is the first place I like to meet up with my friends, because the food is great, the atmosphere is friendly and unpretentious, and there’s a wide selection of great beers to be had. The location on a stately old street in Browne’s Addition, surrounded by beautiful Victorian houses, is great for outdoor seating in warm weather. Some of my favorite dishes: BBQ chicken quesadillas — addictively delicious. French dip, one of the best I’ve had anywhere. The Reuben, ditto(okay, maybe the one I had at the Carnegie Deli in NYC was better, but this one’s still great). Bulgogi Beef Tacos, for those times when only Korean/Mexican food will do. Their daily soups are almost always excellent, too; the beef stew is awesome. Not so good in my book: 74th Street Gumbo. It manages somehow to be both fiery and bland at the same time. Plenty of heat but not much flavor.(Pro tip, Elksters: if you’re going to borrow a gumbo recipe from a big American city, try New Orleans, not Seattle). But apart from that, pretty much everything on the menu is very tasty.

The menu never changes but that is probably because they do a great job with what they have been serving for years. I wish they had french fries to go with the french dip, but the corn pasta is kind of fun. The service is friendly, it is loud but not too loud. Parking is easy. Great beer selection and a full bar. Great place to park your bike on a summer day and eat outside. They do a nice job.

My favorite pub for over 10 years. Never have I had bad service, never have I experienced bad food. And, even though I’ve sought out the recipe for the corn pasta salad, theirs is still top notch.

Awesome gastropub in Browne’s Addition. On the corner of Pacific and Cannon right off the roundabout. There’s plenty of free street parking. The Elk has about 8 tables on the front patio, a full restaurant inside and about a 10 person bar. If you want to sit outside on a nice day, get there early or expect a wait. They have Seattle Cider for $ 5. The beef bulgogi tacos are a must order! The plate comes with 2 tacos filled with bulgogi, cabbage and a spicy sauce, a side of white rice and a cup of cucumber kimchi. I poured the cucumber kimchi on the rice and made a spicy kimchi rice. Delicious! My brother and dad got the gumbo. My dad thought it was too hot and my brother thought it was perfect. Not sure if that’s a good measure for spiciness, but it makes sense to me! If you’re in Spokane and want a good lunch and a beer, come here.

Wow, that was close. I almost missed out on the best Reuben of my life! I was staying out near the airport and didn’t want to drive into town for dinner. I also didn’t want to eat a the hotel. I needed to fuel the rental car so headed down the hill. After getting gas I saw a grocery store and figured I would get something for in the morning. While in the store I almost got something to take back and eat in the room. Leaving the store I decided to check Unilocal and saw that Elks was close and decided to check it out. How fortuitous, the place was great. Service was fast and friendly, I is a very comfortable pub. The Reuben was excellent, every part. Homemade krout, super flavorful corned beef, delicious rye. Loved it!

Best Reuben sandwich I have ever had. Also tried the beef tacos which were bursting with flavor! Finished it off with warm brownie sundae and it really hit the spot! Great restaurant in a fun area!

After checking into our hotel, we went to a house in Greenacres, just east of Spokane, to socialize with one of my wife’s college friends. Given that her friend had to work that night, we were going to be on our own for dinner, so we asked for some recommendations. They suggested this joint at the western end of downtown, so we figured why not? I went to our hotel’s pool to work up an appetite, and we reached our destination at about 7PM. Given that the air was warm and still, we elected to sit inside, near the front window, where we could simultaneously take advantage of the indoor fans and the opportunity to people watch. I do have to say that the latter is a huge plus for this restaurant — on our two week 2015 road trip, it probably earns the award for ‘most interesting people to look at’. The food was very good — I had the 74th Street Gumbo(I had had my fill of hamburgers and pizza by this point), and as advertised, it was HOT! It actually required two beers to cool me off — I think if I were to return I’d investigate the Cajun Ravioli. As for dessert, I had the ice cream brownie, which was stupidly delicious, when we finally received it. Our waiter was very cool to begin with, wondrous that a road trip should include this Eastern Washington small city, but begin to slacken off as the evening wore on. We probably asked for dessert three or four times before it came. To be fair, he was apologetic for all that, and we had it comped, which made for a fairly economic and effective meal. If you’re in the Spokane area, this place is worth checking out, both for the food and for the vibe.

Another DDD(diners drive ins and dives) location on my list!!! Great service by Desiree! Ordered their famous Reuben Sandwich — delicious!!! Perks of business travel — Spokane is a great city to visit and the food places are awesome so make sure to try Elk Public House.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Local friends recommended this place as a great Spokane staple and they were right. I had the Sante Fe chicken sandwich with spicy jalepeno chips while my husband had their favorable gumbo with two local beers(River City Ale and MacksJacks). They have a dessert that is to die for, too, that is a brownie covered with two heavy scoops of ice cream and chocolate drizzle. We were lucky to have it compted due to our waiter forgetting it on our order– –which more than made up for his mishap. Would totally recommend this spot if in the Spokane area!

Great food, great atmosphere, and a great wait-staff. This became a go-to spot while in town, with several trips that always left my group satisfied and impressed. The patio area seating provided a nice feel of the neighborhood and beautiful Spokane weather. Amongst the must-have dishes are the Gumbo(best I’ve had outside of Louisiana… and better than some gumbo there…) which is properly served with soft french bread, and the Bulgogi Beef Tacos which I added a dash of sriracha to for extra heat. While it may be overlooked as an appetizer by some, the chips and salsa were outstanding, with an obviously house-made salsa that was a perfect ratio of heat to flavor, neither watery or too chunky. The beer and cocktail list provided a great variety, and I opted for their Mule most days, which was served in a copper-plated mug. Next time I’m in Spokane this is at the top of my list of places to drop in for food or a tasty beverage.

My mom and I had to fly to Spokane last minute on a family emergency. Since we were here we tried to have a little fun with it. So we downloaded the Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives app and decided to do the Guy Fieri tour. This was stop one!!! First walking up the large outside seating area was awesome!!! What a great neighborhood! The inside was nice but quite loud. Our service was very nice. My mom was excited because the featured(from the show), sandwich was the Ruben with dark rye, house made sauerkraut, and house made corned beef! She loved it. I had a chicken sandwich that also was good but my house made corn pasta salad was great!!! If I lived here I’d be here often!

We traveled to Spokane for a tournament recently and a few friends recommended we try this place. We decided to give them shot for lunch and I thought for a moment that the directions were off because our navigation took us to a residential section of town but behold, there tucked in all the streets of houses was a cute little section of Spokane called the Browne’s Addition that had a few eateries, coffee shops, etc. Admission: I may or may not have had a little too much to drink the night before so I was not feeling like eating at this point but I won’t let that ruin this review :-) The place was old and smelt like warm beer when we walked in(which didn’t help my stomach any) however the restaurant was small and clean. We found a table and from prior recommendations from Unilocal,my husband ordered the Ruben and I decided on a chicken asparagus dish off the specials sheet for the day. We also ordered a couple beers(of which really helped my headache). Food was pretty good. The bread on the Reuben could have been a little thinner. They were huge thick slices that was almost too much bread that covered up all the delicious pastrami but still a good sandwich. Prices were decent and overall it was a good experience. Seemed like a fun local hang out. Wouldn’t mind trying them again if we are ever back in town. They did have a nice patio out front but it was very windy the day were were there so we couldn’t take advantage of it.

This place was perfectly sufficient for the pub that it was. I enjoyed my nitro brew and the staff was friendly enough. I tried a few of my friends’ appetizers and they were admittedly less than extraordinary. The thai flatbread came across as undercooked to me and the garlic bread also lacked a traditional crunch. Maybe a bad batch by a hasty baker? I don’t know. I would’ve been irked had I paid for either of those, though. There just didn’t seem to be an atmosphere that drew me, personally, to the restaurant or its appetizers. I couldn’t quite tell what, if anything The Elk was going for, other than the large neon DRUGS sign above the entrance. It’s an OK place in a cool spot in town. No more, no less.

I can’t find fault in the excellent eatery. The staff were all terrific speedy and sweet. The atmosphere is bright friendly and comfortable. The menu is clever and inventive. Need I say more. I came in straight from the airport and Andi the lovely bartender made me feel welcome and steered me to the best choices for the Triple D fan. Try the Gumbo and try the Ruben! Oh the Gumbo!!! Perfect heat and taste nice chunky everything and the dirty rice is a nice touch. The Ruben is a slam dunk no holds barred grand slam! Such a great flavor from the house made kraut. The pumpernickel bread was unbelievable and the corned beef rivaled the NYC Deli big league. The hidden gem is the Mac salad. Hard to stand up to such an outstanding sandwich it’s the perfect match and a must try! the Elk is the real deal!

This is a great place to go for a light snack before hitting the town and beer. This is my third or fourth time being there and it’s close to the house. In a hipster neighborhood or others call it Brownes addition this is a place where you can dress super casual drink a beer have a light snack and then go out to enjoy the rest of your night. Great for a first date and/or casual dinner on the other side of the bar.
