This is, without exaggeration, one of my favorite places in the world. I’ve been to hundreds of shows and there’s something about the Barn that is intangible and truly special. For bands that I’ve seen several times in several venues the Barn often ends up being my favorite of the bunch. As the name implies, you’re not going to find fancy accommodations. You park in the grass, bring your own chairs, and post up in a concrete-floored barn whose inside is covered in art and show posters. It’s not very big, so you’re going to get cozy with your neighbors who will quickly become friends. Despite being small and practically outdoors, the sound and lighting is always good. You’re going to get an intimate experience like no other. Before the show and during intermission you can gather outside around the fire and at several tall wood table scattered across the lawn. Some shows have grills ready for you to cook food you brought, and you’re welcome to picnic. Enos Farms is also on site with delectable meals for purchase, and they are conscious of including vegetarian/vegan options. While food is welcome, leave your drinks at home — the Barn has beer, wine, soda, and coffee available for you to purchase for practically nothing. Spring Green is a beautiful area, and getting to the barn takes around 45 minutes to an hour to get to from downtown Madison. Enjoy the pretty drive, and get excited for one of the loveliest evenings you’re likely to ever have.

Who would’ve thought that a small barn that is smack dab in the middle of an industrial park could host such cool music events? Definitely not me but now I am definitely a convert. They have performances almost weekly between Spring and Fall and really bring in some decent talent considering it’s in Spring Green. There is absolutely delicious food served onsite as well as beer/wine(can you say $ 2 Hamms?). Be sure to bring a chair for a spot in the barn, take the drive, and enjoy one of the most unique things you can do around the Madison area.

Ermagerd: love this place, though it’s fairly hard to put a precise and accurate label on just what the voodoo that they do do so well is, business model-wise. Have visited the ‘Barn a few times since established. Even enjoyed camping out for an event… and Mama does not camp cheerfully or without convincing. Great events. Fairly well organized for this sorta thing; fun space, excellent folks. (Side note: there are just some places that Unilocal’s survey questions are just absurd, no?)

Fun time at The Sh*tty Barn, with Left Lane Cruiser, Hop Head Beer Tours, Furthermore Beer, and Enos Farms — enjoyed a little«Big Mama» from Left Lane Cruiser. Fun venue — inside an authentic Wisconsin barn located within the city limits of Spring Green, WI — home of Frank Lloyd Wright and American Players Theatre. Cold Futhermore, Grain Belt, and Hamm’s beer. Delicious, locally grown — organic food from Enos Farms served on site.
