This is not Mexican food! They seriously used American cheese in their enchilads. Ewww… We moved here from So Cal 4 months ago and have been searching for authentic Mexican food ever since. This place only got 2 stars because they were clean and friendly. We will be searhing elsewhere.

Best Mexican food restaurant in the area. My family and I have eaten here almost every week for the past couple of years. Why? Because the food is excellent, the frozen margaritas are especially good, and the waiter service is superb. You will not go wrong enjoying dinner here. Very pleasurable !

Ate here with my son, wife and best friend. This is the 5th time eating here. Ordered the nachos, way too much cheese. Nachos tasted stale: my sons taco was way to hot on the inside, burnt his mouth biting into the taco. Now it’s 430am and I throwing up all my nasty ass nachos and having a super bad case of food poisoning. Never again.

I had bookmarked this place awhile ago but actually only came here that night because another restaurant nearby that I also wanted to go to hadn’t opened yet even though I was told it had. Upon entering I noticed this restaurant has two sides. On the left is the restaurant are and on the right is the bar area. Both areas are separated by a wall. I went left and after being presented a menu went with my standard first meal at any Mexican restaurant… the chicken fajitas. My first test is always the chips and salsa. Here they give you both red and green. I liked the chips and the red salsa(4). The green salsa was kind of bland. It just didn’t taste green enough. I want to taste the color green and I didn’t here(2). The food arrived within 5 minutes of the chips and the platter was barely sizzling. I don’t like that. I want the sizzle! The charro beans were very good(4) and I enjoyed them. The chicken fajitas with onions were seasoned well and I enjoyed them. They came with some guac and pico and made for a good meal(3). My service was good as I was checked on several times during the meal(3.5). My meal was good but when it came to giving an overall score I leaned more toward a 3 than a 4. Currently the average Unilocal score for this place is 3.5. I think that’s spot on relative to my experience. I would come back to try something else but I rarely am in this particular area therefore I doubt I will.

Stopped here one day after an epic fail at another Mexican Restaurant about a block down the street. I was really just looking for a margarita. Walking in first impression, interesting. To the left is a nice size dinning area and to the right a rather nicely decorated bar area. I was promptly seated and the server was ready for my drink order. Chips and Salsa — You get green and red of course. The red is roasted and served warm and not bad and could use some salt. The green was so so, but I’m not a fan of it period. The chips are just that and adding a little salt won’t hurt. On to the beef. I order a standard beef fajitas taco just to try the meat. My order arrives and I dig in. The tortillas are fersh and home made so that’s a plus. The fajitas came chopped up but had a good flavor. Then on to the margarita. It came nicely frozen not half watered down like some places. These margaritas have a different flavor from your typical margarita. They have more of a citrus(orange) flavor than lime. So it isn’t tart but it is surprisingly D-lish. The service here is wonderful and very friendly. I actually returned for a second visit and this time ordered the fajitas grilled with onions. Now those were amazing. So this spot is going to be on my list to frequent more especially for fajitas. They are reasonably priced and worth every cent.

«Home sweet home.» «Welcome to the family.» «Goodnight John boy.» «Sometimes you wanna go…» «Good times. any time you meet a…» «Welcome back. to that same olé place…» This is why you are seeing stars up there for this spot. This was the shock I walked into while just passing by while in search of a new spot. Far back in the strip center sits Los Generales. Do you get it yet? Of course not… so let me explain. On the outside this place looks like the run of the mill Mexican place with absolutely no character. But within seconds of opening the door, your mouth drops. «What the heck just happened? This place looks comfy.» It’s got a tavern feel and a staff that’s like you just walk into a family reunion. And get this… its not Tex Mex. Yeah I know you may find something on the menu that is but in it’s core… it’s not. Now let me be honest. The salsa here is not good. Simple as that. It has no flare at all. Neither does the green gaucamole sauce. It needs serious work. But what they have right… is… Margaritas and Quail!!! YES! Best quail I’ve had in Houston. They grilled it excellently. If you are a quail fan… this is a place that’s worth the drive. And with Jumbo Margarita’s at 6.50…its a done deal. You walk in this place you will not want to leave, especially if you sit on the bar side. Its got a real relaxing tavern feel with pretty comfy chairs. Get this… I was there for 4 hour! Just chilling, sipping and snacking. The fajitas are pretty tasty too. Not the best but definitely worth ordering AND its real beef. Its not that lime taste that I run away from but a beef taste that totally has a great grill flavor. It’s kid friendly and non-smoking and the staff is very attentive. I will certainly return on a Saturday just to get away and relax. If you are a Bourbon drinker you must try some of their bourbon infused Margarita’s. I thought I was the only one with that idea. Yum, yum, yummy. My only recommendations to management is to pick those giant rita machines off the floor. Just something about that that doesn’t sit well with me. Those things where designed to sit on a counter or table to show off and it makes a better presentation for customer to see it twirl. Hiding them is not a good idea and brings to question if its clean. I’m looking forward to more quail! Dont hide and Prosper!

They claim to have the best margarita in Houston: Los Generales Margarita. Tasted more like orange juice. I’ve also never heard of a Mexican restaurant that runs out of salsa! Service was mediocre, bar tender does not know how to mix drinks. Been wanted to try this place for a while … Big disappointment.

Pretty darn good Mexican restaurant that has fair prices and really strong margaritas. They even have quail! Place can get busy at night but it is usually slow so the service is always on point. Quality of food is good as well. Free chips and salsa.

Went there for lunch, charro beans were cold and so was staff. Enchiladas were good.

My parents and I make it a point to invite a family out to eat with us after church service every Sunday, and 90% of the time we go to Los Generales. The prices are reasonable, the portions are generous, and — most importantly for our purposes — the atmosphere is pleasant and quiet. Consistently good food.

Hands down one of the best mexican food restaurants in Houston! Reminds me of my grandmas homemade food! Margaritas are delish and happy hour specials are bomb! :]

I. Love. Los. Gen. There are 2 types of Mexican food in Houston: 1. Bougie-Mex — Pappasito’s, El Tiempo, etc. 2. Crappy-Mex — the dime-a-dozen Mexican joints on every corner where the margaritas are so strong that you don’t even notice the food Los Generales falls somewhere in between. It’s casual enough to wear your workout clothes, but nice enough to invite friends to join. The prices are great, the margaritas are amazing, and the fajita meat is good quality — which are the 3 factors I use when judging a Mexican restaurant.

We stopped in for a quick bite one night, because I just needed a margarita. The margaritas had a different taste, but was still good. I plan on going back. I got a ground beef burrito covered in queso, that was way better than I expected for the price. My boyfriend got chicken wrapped in cheese, bacon, and jalapeño that he enjoyed. We want to go back and try more items on the menu. I want to give 3.5 stars, but aw well.

Terrible service. Terrible food. Got chili rellenos. It was not even cooked, microwaved and no flavor. Chips were old and cold. Server was rude. Said«is that it?» And ran off before I could tell him about the food. Avoid this place.

Its fast, friendly and cheap. My wife and I love their margaritas. Highly recommend their fajita beef tacos and add queso to the top! PS ritas are strong but don’t taste like. they are just right.

A very good Mexican food place. The food is great, as is the staff. It’s in a weird location so you have to look for the sign to find it.

Our most recent visit: Ordered shrimp fajitas(6), they were pretty good — nice and tasty. Service was excellent — came around to double check if we wanted our drinks refilled(diet coke, ice teas)
