Unfortunately the food quality has declined since we first started ordering from Taste of China a little over a year ago. Serious skimping on Shrimp in the Fried Rice which actually tasted old, and our Sweet & Sour Chicken literally had 3 pieces of onion in it. This will be my final experience with the once favored restaurant.

How crazy is it to believe that this little gem use to be a Whataburger? It’s a quaint place. You can tell they try to make it a little more«upscale» with the polyester napkins & cute paper mats. The servers here are all super sweet & attentive. Dining in, you get a complimentary bowl of won ton strips. Save it for the soup! And you also get freshly baked almond cookies at the end of your meal :) — Steamed Dumplings(5⁄5): My oh my. When our waitress opened that silver tin lid, my eyes widened as big as these dumplings. So plump & steamed to perfection. The filling was a tiiiiiny bit flavorless, but that is why there is dipping sauce! Let me just say that they have THEBEST saté I have ever had. Mix it with the ginger soy sauce they offer. It’s so addicting. — Walnut Shrimp(3⁄5): I definitely can say that I’ve had better but Taste’s walnut shrimp wasn’t too bad. They’re huge & was a bit heavily coated in mayo which made me almost regret every bite. Which is why I wish they replaced the won ton chips lying on the bottom with shredded lettuce like the usual — just to lighten up the dish. — Combination Chow Fun(4⁄5): One of China’s staple dishes! My bf absolutely enjoyed it. He was nice enough to share & the two generous spoonfuls he gave me — I felt were truly more«lighter» than most. The noodles weren’t glistening with oil & the meats were all so tender. My new go-to Chinese restaurant near home? I think so! They also use the drive thru which is very convenient :)

I’ve only eaten here about 10 times in the past two months I’ve moved up here. The food has an incredible taste and from what my family, friends and I have ordered we have yet to be disappointed. They have great variety of selection and also a good lunch menu. Whether you get the regular plate or the lunch plate, you get a lot of food. You get what you pay for. Let’s not forget to mention the service because it. Is. Exceptional.

We stumbled across the restaurant when we moved to Spring looking for a delivery Chines restaurant. The food is delicious and the delivery is quick. A nice high school aged boy always come to our door smiling and happy to deliver. I once changed a dish and the woman who was taking my order suggested a different modification because she didn’t think the way I ordered it would be good. The crab Rangoon, General Sao dishes, and noodles are the dishes that we get over and over. Go eat here!

This was my second time at Taste of China following 3 – 4 years after it replaced the old Whataburger at this location and not much has changed. You wouldn’t expect much looking at this location while driving by and once you’re inside there isn’t much to appreciate aesthetically but that’s not why I came back. I came here with my girlfriend after waking up late on a Sunday afternoon and we initially wanted to go to Bellaire. Since we lived up north I recommended Taste of China instead because I enjoyed it so much the first time. Let’s start with the service, upon entry into their establishment you’re more than likely going to be welcomed by busy cashiers on the phone prioritizing delivery orders but we were quickly greeted by a waitress with a smile. Their English may not be the greatest but you can tell they genuinely care for your overall comfort and satisfaction here. You can tell the waiters know their stuff and are always willing to inform you about any questions you may have about their food. Even the manager/owner stepped in on occasion to ask how things were and attempted to establish a relationship which I can appreciate. Overall I’d rate service a 10⁄10. Now for the important information, how is the food? Well, we started our afternoon meal with a couple cups of egg drop soup. Usually this soup is pretty tasteless at generic Chinese restaurants however at Taste of China, it sparked my taste buds and had a homemade taste to it. Added in a few chips on the side for a little crunch and the bowl was empty within 3 minutes. My girlfriend decided to also order the steamed dumplings which at first I was reluctant to order because of my past experience with dumplings at Chinese restaurants. It took a while to come out but I can tell why. THESEDUMPLINGSWEREAMAZING. I added a bit of soy and hot sauce and my share of dumplings were gone before I knew it. At first glance, it was clear these dumplings were made fresh and they definitely tasted like it. Even if its not true, they had me fooled. For our entrees, my girlfriend ordered the walnut shrimp while I ordered the special flat rice noodle(I forgot the Chinese name) which included pork, shrimp, and chicken. The noodles came out hot and DELICIOUS. It didn’t have the oily aftertaste how most restaurants serve them. All of the meats complimented the noodles perfectly and there was no need to add any sauce to adjust the flavor. I definitely recommend this entrée to any first timer here. I tried a bit of my girlfriends shrimp and fried rice and although I’m not a huge fan of walnut shrimp, it definitely was not bad. The rice lacked a little flavor to my expecting but keep in mind this is after eating some of the best flat noodles I’ve ever had. The shrimp are HUGE, along with all of the other portions rice, noodles, meats, and veggies. You certainly get what you pay for which is about the $ 10-$ 15 range for entrees. Finally to top it all off, we were given a couple fortune cookies and two very hot cookies. I’m usually not a fan of eating the post meal desserts as they tend to be stale or tasteless but after being proven wrong 3 times now, I thought why not. The fortune cookies were not stale, which is all you could really gripe about for fortune cookies and the cookies were SOGOOOOD, almost as if they were baked in an oven and served fresh. Overall I’d rate the food here a 9.86 because I think they could’ve made the fried rice better. This is definitely a restaurant I’d return to and recommend to anybody. I can see how some reviews can state the food as been ‘Americanized’ as most Chinese restaurants not located in Bellaire are. Most of the staff are Chinese I believe and although I’m not, I can appreciate their native tongue being spoken around the kitchen. It provides some kind of relief that this restaurants retains most of its authenticity, which most Chinese restaurants lack now a days. Taste of China is an absolute go-to if you’re up North and craving homemade Chinese food.

Good food, great service! I liked the service here better than the food; all staff is friendly and smiley and that makes a whole difference in my opinion. The food is good, but not amazing. However, is say they are the best option for Chinese in this area. And the lunch special is a very well served portion that includes soup, appetizer and the entrée.

First tome at Taste. Ordered three entrees and all were delicious and had a good proportion of vegetables. The downside was the complimentary fried rice. Just egg and soy sauce, but it’s free. May, the owner is very friendly and cares about her customers.

Decided to check this place out due to the high ratings but I was very disappointed. The food was greasy and the pieces of chicken were too big and bland in my opinion. It didn’t taste like they marinated the chicken prior to cooking it but just drenched it in sauce. My friend thought the same. I ordered the sesame chicken and she had the orange chicken, the soup was good, nothing spectacular. Service was okay, we waited a while to place our order but the waitress did apologize about the wait. I will have to keep searching for a good Chinese restaurant :/

This is definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants in the area! The portions are hefty, the staff are very friendly, and the prices are reasonable. I’ve tried their Hunan Chicken, Garlic Chicken, and Mongolian Beef. All were tasty and well balanced with meat/veggies. They even let me add mushrooms to the Garlic Chicken(for $ 1 more). I like their wonton soup, too. The egg rolls are decent, but not my favorite. If you eat there, they bring you crunchy fried wontons in the beginning as a complimentary app, as well as hot almond cookies at the end. It’s definitely a step up from your average Chinese restaurant.

The food was excellent and had a home made taste to it as well. It was the first time that my wife and I came to eat here and with both enjoyed the large portions and the freshness of the food. The waitress that seated us was very polite and always checked to see if we needed anything while we ate. I recommend that anyone craving some delicious Chinese food come by and try any of their appetising dishes.

The service here was exceptional. The food hot and fresh and seemingly homemade. Everything we had was very hot and delicious. The waitress Nancy was very nice and funny too and did an excellent job.(She only works Wednesday’s) The hot almond cookie at the end of the meal with the check was the perfect finishing touch. We will be back and we recommend it highly.

Wonderful service, delicious food, and reasonable prices. One entrée is enough for two people and it’s incredibly good. I love their beef with snow peas, orange chicken, egg drop soup, pan seared dumplings, and fried biscuits. Yum!

Nice looking place with good service, but I couldn’t eat the food here. I gave this place a chance because someone here said the BBQ Pork(Char Siu) was«authentic». Welp you got me, hook line and sinker! So the bbq pork itself wasn’t bad, but it was drowned in this horrible sweet brown sauce that I assume they use on every dish. WHYYY :(Absolutely ruined. You don’t serve char siu bbq pork in sauce! On the side maybe, but if it’s drowned in some soupy soy/hoisin sauce, all the flavor and texture just disappears. The vegetables were pretty typical American Chinese stuff. Broccoli, snow peas, baby corn, mostly really bland stuff also drenched in disgusting sweet sauce. The only highlight of the meal was the hot, buttery, almond cookie at the end. Amazing! They heated it perfectly. All places should do this rather than give you an un-fortune cookie. I would’ve spent my $ 10 on an entire plate of these. Their hot tea is some Jasmine tea bag brand I know I’ve seen at the supermarket. It’s decent. Overall, the almond cookie was good, but it just cost a bit too much at $ 10.

This place was pretty awesome. The food was made fresh to order. They had these awesome combination plates that had 2 different types of entrees and came with a soup and eggroll. I’ve found that most places don’t have good eggrolls. To my surprise, Taste of China has awesome HUGE eggrolls. The customer service here was exceptional! The lady at the register was super friendly. I really enjoyed this place and we will definitely be coming back!

This is by far the best Chinese restaurant in Houston. It is amazingly clean and everyone is so friendly and welcoming! My husband and I were so impressed that we will make sure this is the Chinese restaurant we come to from now on! We will be back soon!

Been coming here ever since it opened. Over the years, the service has not changed — quick, friendly, attentive, & accurate. The food has not changed either — decent American Chinese Cuisine. They do have BBQ Pork — Char Siu — 叉燒 — is one of the few«authentic» Chinese ingredient(s). If I remember correctly, the ribs are authentic also. Prices are still reasonable — So — if you like American Chinese Cuisine — give this restaurant a try.

You know it’s good Chinese food when you see Chinese patrons! I had the hot and sour soup, general tso’s chicken, fried rice and a gigantic tasty egg roll for under $ 10! The chicken consisted of generous portions of white meat with a flavorful sauce, fried rice was good but nothing special… but omg that egg roll and soup though. I had to order some to-go it was that memorable. Bomb dot com… no bomb dot org. They give you Chinese fritos too as an appetizer. I don’t actually know what they are called. Sorry. Anyway, don’t let the looks of this place deceive you. The building used to be a what a burger and still has a functioning drive thru. I’ve never been to China, but I feel like this is as authentic as it can get. Get your keester to Taste of china, you won’t regret it!
