Golfed here last week. The practice facilities are nice, however, the course itself is in poor shape. I have never spent so much on green fees, for such a poorly maintained course. Major Lack of attention to detail. For Houston, I’ve come to see this is the norm, so adjust your expectations accordingly when visiting. (My comparisons are mostly with the Chicago land area, however I’ve golfed all over the country.)

The Oaks and Panther Trail are located within The Woodlands Resort and I had the opportunity to play The Oaks course twice while attending a wedding there last October. I wanted to play Panther Trail as well but they were booked that weekend for outings. First off the facilities and staff are first rate. They have excellent practice facilities including a grass tee driving range. The Oaks course is a beautiful course. It was in excellent condition and well maintained. It had the fastest greens I have ever played on and it took a little getting use to. The fairways are pretty wide but are lined by trees and/or homes. There are water hazards in play on multiple holes and some of the nicest bunkers I have ever played out of. There are rangers out there to keep the pace of play moving. Overall, I had a great time playing at the Oaks. I wish I could have played Panther Trail but now I have something to look forward to if I visit Houston again.
