The guy who runs this place was working the checkout counter during my visit. He’s extraordinarily knowledgable about all things wine. I know next to nothing about wine. He was happy to guide me to a specific type and specific origin of wine. Even with my price, type and origin criteria, he had a lot of options to choose from. I also appreciated that he wasn’t pushy about helping me out or having me buy outside my preferred price point.
While I was settling up, he explained that they have a fairly rigorous process of meeting with vendors and selecting what they put on the shelves, which helps ensure that everything they sell is of a high quality. Shopping here was like a quick, informal, miniature lesson in the world of wine, something I thought was fun… much better than leaving myself to gamble my guests’ drinks on what I thought looked good at the grocery store.
