I came here recently for a presentation and was absolutely impressed by both the waitstaff and the meal! Upon arriving we were directed to the room the presentation was being held in and almost immediately asked what we would like for drinks. Thanks to our hosts, we were not limited as to what we could order in terms of beverages. A waitress brought me a drink menu which had more options than I’ve seen anywhere else… this of course lead me into a quandary of what I should order. While she was taking care of other guests, a waiter inquired if he could help, and made some recommendations according to my tastes. Ultimately he ended up slightly customizing one of their regular beverages to make it the absolutely perfect fit! We had a limited dining menu to choose from, but the quality of each selection was phenomenal. I ended up going with the Atlantic Salmon a la Plancha. Great serving size and the way the flavors of the salmon’s accompaniments played together was like heaven. Although none of my coworkers were kind enough to share a piece of their Grilled New York Strip with me(greedy bastards!) they would absolutely not stop going on about what a big piece it was and how delicious! Finally for desset… we had the options of Cheesecake with raspberry coulis, or the Tavern Chocolate Cake. This time I was fortunate to get both as one of my coworkers isn’t a big dessert guy. The Cheesecake was one of the best I’ve ever had; the last time I enjoyed Cheesecake this much was when I was in Spain. It didn’t have that overly sweet quality that has often plagued other cheesecakes I’ve tried. It definitely trumped the Chocolate Cake in my opinion, which(and I never thought I’d say this!) was just a tad too chocolatey. The group will back me up on this one. I’m definitely hoping to make it back sometime to get a taste of more of the menu!

I went here not too long ago for my anniversary. We went on a weeknight because restaurants are less busy so we wouldn’t have to wait so long. We were seated right away and our waitress was friendly and introduced herself minutes after we sat. I ordered wine and my husband got a soda. The wine list is pretty impressive. Since I’m not a wine connoisseur I decided to go with a glass as opposed to a bottle. I do think wine fans would be very pleased with what’s available. For an appetizer we got the spinach and artichoke dip. It was pretty good. The size was a little disappointing seeing as how it was promoted as being a starter for more than one person. The flavor was nice though. For dinner I chose the scallops. The meals came out in a reasonable amount of time. The plating was very nice and professional. The portion was okay. The flavor though was really good. The scallops were cooked to just right. I love risotto and the apple risotto was right up my alley. Tasty but not overwhelming. I ordered the garlic mashed potatoes as my side. They were also pretty good. A little bland for my liking, but I added a little salt and pepper and they were edible. My husband ordered the lobster cioppino and he liked it. He ate the entire meal! I don’t like lobster so I didn’t try his meal, but it did look nice. For dessert we decided on coffee and the crème brûlée. The dessert was really good. I had no where to put it after finishing my dinner, but I soldiered on because I love my desserts. It was crunchy and soft. I don’t know how they do that. Overall, our experience was pleasant. Our server was a little cold, but she delivered everything in a timely manner. Its location, while not being exactly downtown Springfield, is still a cause for concern. You never know who’s going to jump you as you walk to your car. This restaurant would be nice for a special occasion. I can’t see paying these prices for a regular dinner.

Another disappointing dinner! After hearing my family RAVE about the Prime Rib at the prestigious Max’s Tavern, I was anxious to try it. .. And was let down !! The family members who told me about their experience at Max’s were not happy either. You would think a place with the reputation Max’s Tavern enjoys would be choosier about the products the good they serve. On the up side, the sides were awesome and the staff friendly and efficient.

It’s funny because half way through this bad meal I remembered why I haven’t been in years. First off and I won’t even count it in the bad review because it seems like no restaurants aside from Pizzaria Uno’s is a place that the wait staff introduce themselves. Having been in the restaurant biz for 20 years it’s a no brainier… hi my name is… is your basic start to creating a bond with your customers to increase the tip. So my friend and I ordered tap water which I suppose you get warm as a punishment for not ordering the bottle water. Next our drink order came promptly and we ordered. The garlic bread with gorganzola fondue, it was ok. Next we had Caesar salad which had barely any dressing and the romaine was large enough that I had to cut down every piece. On to the 38 $ filet. My friend ordered hers black and blue, mine med rare. When the steaks came out the waitress as she walked by… and kept on walking ask how they were, I wasn’t even able to comment as per she was already past the table. So mine, well done, my friends medium well. My friend not being one to complain tried to get me to not say anything but for 38 $!!! A steak, I had to say something. In efforts to not make a scene for my friend, I called the waitress over(whatshername) and told her, we don’t want new ones but, please let the kitchen know that we were not pleased. She was apologetic and promptly sent over the management. She urged us to get new ones but we were not interested to have to wait for another meal as for 38 $ the chefs should know how to cook a steak. So, management through her arms in the air and said«well if you don’t want new ones I don’t now what I can do about it» Clearly they don’t value repeat customers. End of story.

I came here with an old friend from high school, I was in town for a reunion. It was the afternoon after Thanksgiving and the place was quiet, I think everyone was out shopping. The place has a great atmosphere, really liked the dark wood etc. The service was great, but that wouldn’t be too hard with there only being a handful of people in the place, but still nice to be catered to. We Both had salads for lunch, you know watching the waistline before a reunion! The salads were pretty big, definitely enough for a meal. The only knock I’d have on the restaurant was the prices for this area were on the high side. When I’m ever back in town and in the area I would go back for a real nice dinner and splurge a little.

Amazing menu good service a little pricey but portions were worth it. No need for extra sides with dinner unless you’re really hungry. Salad are a good portion as well. Chopped salad for an app and swordfish for dinner both were incredible.

Ordered the Ribeye, and got a Prime Rib. Sent it back(and you know never to do that). Manager came over and said«the Chef said 4 minutes», then our Waiter came by and said«3 minutes». Guess what 9 minutes it came out, every one at my table had finished. I said I don’t want it. We are done. She comes with the Bill and guess what, they wanted to charge me the $ 43.00 for the Ribeye I never got. Was that a mistake? I don’t think so. The bill was over $ 200.00 for my Niece who was up from Florida. Worst night ever.

Went there on Tuesday night and it was one of the worst meals I have had at a restaurant. Fine atmosphere and service was good but the food was poorly cooked/cold and the apps(we had one of the dips) was tasteless. What a waste of time

For a Max’s I was disappointed. The upper seating area shakes as people walk by due to poor construction. A party was going on in the Hall of Fame, and all we could hear was the BOOM of base. It was also a bit shocking to hear a manager cursing at the kitchen which is open out to the floor of the restaurant.

Very disappointed based on their reputation… the waitress was great as well as the service… ordered drinks. my uncle asked for basil Hayden bourbon. we then were told they were out of it… I saw full bottle on shelf and questioned this. we were told they had more in storage. but then told they were out and full bottle was for display… I found this odd as every bottle was half full or close to empty on shelf but this one. I let it go as it would upset my uncle… ordered mussles which were very gritty and 5 – 6 were not even cooked… sauce used was very good… again let it go not to upset my uncle who does not like confrontation… food was good… would I return not sure based on the flaws. mostly having the drink we went d but wouldn’t open because it was on «display». Really… been to a few max and never had a bad visit before

The burger and fries were good. But then we noticed mold growing in the water container they fill the glasses from. How many hands and contaminants had that water container been exposed to in the time it took to grow mold between cleanings? Several days without a proper cleaning perhaps? Which then made me wonder what else around the kitchen area might not have been cleaned.

Stopped here for dinner last night. Very nice and clean inside. Wasn’t really that hungry, so I ordered a bowl of the soup of the day, which was a light asparagus soup with grilled corn and leeks. very tasty. Also ordered the chilled lobster salad, which had avocados, farm tomatoes and an orange cilantro dressing. Very large lobster chunks and all fresh produce. Very satisfied and made for a perfect light meal. Also tasted the french onion soup, which was very tasty. Onions were caramelized and the broth was very rich and flavorful, with perfectly browned melted cheese on top, the way a good french onion soup should be. Highly recommended.

I was in MA for my graduation, and had our celebration dinner here. WONDERFULWONDERFULWONDERFUL. Fantastic food. Great service — so patient, so kind. The ambiance was so great, just relaxed with a bit of a fancy casualness to it. The food — great. Had steak, perfectly cooked.

We came here for a business meeting and a recommendation from a local friend. We had the french onion soup, chop salad, chicken wings and fried hot peppers for app’s. They were all great, the chopped salad was delicious with all fresh veggies chopped finely with gorgonzola chz however my guest asked the server if there was lettuce in the salad or just veggies and she said yes but it was just veggies not a typical salad with a base of lettuce, he did not enjoy it as much as I did. For dinner I had the special for the night, hanger steak with scallops & fresh asparagus, and it was cooked perfectly and the light sauce on the scallops was delicious. I highly recommend this one. One of us had the strip steak with mac & cheese on the side and & the steak was also cooked perfect. We also had a pasta dish that was very good, pasta was cooked perfectly al dante with just the right amount of sauce. The fourth dish, the meatloaf with mashed & fresh string beans was disappointing and is the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. It appeared to be sliced then grilled and it was so dry and honestly didn’t even look appetizing on the plate. Had we not been hosting business associates we would have definitely sent it back. For dessert we shared the chocolate beignet’s and they were ok, a bit dry since it only had a small coating of caramel on the plate, should be served with ice cream or more caramel sauce. Cappuccino’s finished the night and were light and fluffy. The service was very attentive and thorough. I am looking forward to coming back when I’m in town.

I love Max’s Tavern. It is one of my go to restaurants in the area. While the food is consistent the service is very attentive and friendly. Sometimes the portions can be a little on the small side for the value conscious. The bar is a great place to unwind after a long day at the office. The patio when open is a relaxing time save if Bondi’s Island isn’t putting out overpowering odors. I would say this is a great restaurant, but you will pay for the experience. It’s on the pricier side for the area. The wines by the glass could do with some old world wines for an option. The cocktail selection is diverse with an emphasis on artful cocktails rather than your 90’s standards. Overall a great place to visit for a nice night out or a work dinner.

Outstanding food. Sandwiches and salads were huge. Jerk chicken sandwich was tasty but piece of chicken was very small. Apple cider donuts, chocolate cake, sorbet, cheesecake were all delicious. Bananas Foster was a little disappointing. We were at Max Tavern to celebrate our daughter’s ordination to deaconate in the Episcopal Church. When it came time to pay the bill, our waiter informed me that our check had been taken care of by a friend of the restaurant by the name John. I did not get to thank John, but hopefully he will read this post. If he does, our family and friends want to say thank you.

Here on business & this was recommended but I was not impressed. I thought it was overpriced by looking at the menu. I ordered Fish and chips — the fish was burnt — not for me On the positive side the service was excellent

Dined here after going to the Basketball Hall of Fame(located in the same building). Overall I enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. I had the Kale Salad and while it was good, learned I am not a fan of raw kale. I also had the French Dip sandwich, which was delicious! Served with equally delicious truffle fries. I was not really impressed with the dessert options. We choose the apple cider donuts which turned out to be donut holes. They were just okay, but the dipping sauce was very good!
