The owner is very nice. Good was fresh and great!!! Not a long wait to get the food. They are fast at making it and it’s made from scratch! Definitely will be eating there again! Couples or family’s

I really like this place, so far! I live downtown but I’m always on a budget and for that reason, I’m always aware of what’s here but can go FOREVER without ever actually trying it! Well, we wandered while on an afternoon walk, and i didn’t realize they were closing in five minutes. Regardless, the guy at the counter was incredibly friendly and didn’t mention it until my boyfriend inquired about how business had been thus far(because it was empty at the time!), and i think he realized what we thought and very kindly told us the hours for that day. He informed us that everything is fresh and homemade so if we wanted to order something, it would definitely be fresh! However, we have both worked in customer service and were frankly more concerned with being polite! We had already actually eaten just a few hours prior so we took a to-go menu, and wished him a good night. We came back two days later and the other brother was who greeted us, very smiley and friendly, as well! I ordered the skinny vinny, a vegetarian sandwhich with bell peppers and Portobello mushroom with mozzarella cheese(I think it was mozzarella!), chicken for my daughter, and my boyfriend ordered the Don with spicy peppers. The Skinny Vinny was great! Very filling, flavorful and delicious! My daughter was a little fussy about life, being three and all, so I ate a bit of her chicken and it was AMAZING. I hate eating at chick-fil-a, but always crave their chicken– NOMORE! The breading isn’t as floury and thick as some. It’s light, crispy and has flavor. The chicken on the inside is moist and dreamy. I’d guess onions are involved in it somehow, but honestly I don’t care what they bread that chicken with, I’d eat it all day. My boyfriend loved the Don and even though I’m more of a veggie lover, I enjoyed my taste of it as well! The portion sizes are on point with prices and I’m thankful that atleast one place downtown has reasonable drink prices as well!

Was pleasantly surprised with this place! I ordered the Don with sweet peppers. Generous portions of roast beef on a hoagie dipped in au jus. I wish there was some more flavor or seasoning in the meat, but still very good. The options of various fried things were great as well(fried pickles, green beans, and house chips… yes, I tried them all) They obviously make them at the restaurant, no frozen bags for them(not gonna lie, I’m a fry snob). Why not the 5 stars? I’m pretty big with ambiance and there was zero music… so it was kind of awkward in the large, quiet room. You could literally hear everyone’s conversations. Plus the guy behind the counter(maybe the owner?) while polite was anything but Mr. Personality and every chance he could he would run upstairs away from the customers. Just a little odd. But again, great spot worth checking out. I will be back!

Great little sandwich shop and you will not go away hungry! There is not much seating, but the chow here is well worth eating even if you have to stand! I had«The Don» with fries and got a beef filled sandwich with more fresh hand cut fries than I could finish. Very good!

Okay, so anytime I am out I look for a place that has chicago style italian beef sandwiches. Found this little place in downtown springfield and after reading other reviews decided to give it a try. I had the DON with sweet and hot peppers, not dipped but juice on the side. It wasn’t the best I’ve had and it wasn’t the worst. I agree the meat was a little bland but some flavor tried to peak through. The bread was not what chicago beefs are typically served on… too thick, but it did withstand the juice I ended up pouring on the sandwich to try and make it easier to eat. The peppers were cold, not sautéed well and warm like I’m used to. The guy seemed nice enough. Another couple was there and had the fried green beans and had us try them and they were very good indeed. The fried chips were also excellent. Some crisp, some soft, seasoned just right! I gave this place a 4 but really wanted to give a 3.6 because if you boast italian beefs and you studied culinary arts in chicago, then you should be able to master this sandwich. Overall, good try.

I was going to write a review that was nothing but positive, but literally as I was writing it an employee had a tantrum in the back about using a different sized bowl that would be harder to clean or something. Get it together dude. It’s unprofessional and annoying and I don’t come to Mo’ Beef on my lunch to hear that shit. Anyway, the food is great. Get the berry salad. Most delicious salad I’ve ever had. Has a raspberry vinaigrette.

I had The Don and it wasn’t too bad. Obviously it’s not a full-on Chicago masterpiece, but you’re in Springfield, Missouri. The meat was a little bland but otherwise a good sandwich. My only real complaint was the attitude from the guy behind the counter. Zero people skills and an amateur death glare if you’d try to engage him in conversation. I normally wouldn’t take it too seriously, but I was the only one in there so he wasn’t busy making a dozen orders or playing a part to make the masses think they’re in the big city. Still, I recommend everybody give it a try to experience this kind of sandwich.

Great food and great service. Don is always coming up with new additions to the menu, and they have yet to disappoint. I typically get the Don with hot peppers(which actually aren’t incredibly spicy, but definitely flavorful) and provolone cheese. The best way to get your sandwich is «dipped», in which they take the entire sandwich and dip it in the beef Au Jus. Is it messy? Absolutely. But it is by far the best way to eat the sandwich. They have recently started to make burgers on croissant rolls which are also top-notch. Awesome place for a quick lunch!

A solid 4. The portions were great! I had the signature sandwich«The Don.» The meat was cooked to perfection but lacked some in flavor even with the hot peppers. As I ate I noticed a whole garlic clove. My thoughts are that if they minced that instead of leaving it whole the flavor would permeate the beef making it perfect. Don’t expect to eat the sandwich like a normal sandwich. You will have to you use a fork. Their home fries are excellent. Their onion rings are good but they appear to be battered the same way a wanton is that you get at most Chinese restaurants. This made a unique flavor combination. There is not much seating but its a small operation so that is understandable. This place has a lot of potential and if they can get some of the small things adjusted it could be a 5 star joint.

You’re greeted with a hello when you arrive and a thank you upon leaving which is great. The portions are great and worth the price. The fries are potato slices and one order serves two people. Seating inside for about 13 people total. Tax is included their prices.

The Italian Beef Sandwiches are wonderful. Everything is fresh and scratch made. Nice people own it and are very pleasant. This is is the type of place that makes me so happy to dine local here in Springfield. They have recently added burgers to the menu. What can I tell you it is a very good burger. Quality ingredients well prepared and at a good price. Check them out!

The type of place we could use more of downtown… that isn’t executed greatly. The beef is good. I love their bread. They’re generous with the peppers. All very good. Here’s the bad: Mo’ Beef reminds me of a Epcot Center version of urban dives. Somewhere the ideal was lost in translation, I guess. Urban dive restaurants with counters operate on volume. So you have three basic requirements: 1) cheap; 2) fast; 3) good. If you actually go to a Chicago Italian Beef joint, the sandwiches cost like 4.50, some sweaty Greek/Mexican dude makes them in about 3 – 4 minutes, tops, and there’s a greasy goodness that stays with you for like an hour. Now let’s go to Mo Beef. It’s moderately-priced, and if we compare Chicago to Springfield in terms of cost of living, it’s overpriced. It is not quick. It’s not bad food; most of what I’ve had has been good. But the actual places in Chicago make better food in less time for a lower price in a higher-cost city. So…3 stars.

I have eaten here many times and really wanted to give this place a higher rating. I have visited from just shortly after they opened until present. I even tried to spread the word and invite friends and family to join me. That’s how much I was originally impressed. I’ll say upfront, I have not had all the menu items. I focused mainly on the«Don» and«Tony»; which are the two main beef sandwiches there. When they first opened the flavor was so much better. I am not sure if the recipe or process changed but it’s not like it was. It’s still good but something has changed. The main discrepancy I have is inconsistency. One time I’ll go and think this place is great. Then the next time I’ll go and I’m like is this the same place. Take this review for what it is – a review. Try it and I hope you catch this place on a good night(or day). Just be aware of the hours before you venture down for dinner. Disclaimer: My posts are just my opinion. I visit all places I review a minimum of three times and at varies times before I write a review. I don’t want to be one of those that posts reviews out of frustration or being elated out of one good experience. Take my posts as just a personal opinion. Do your research, understand the specific cuisine and go try new places. I respect all those who work hard to run a business. However, I feel being honest is important even if the review I write is less then flattering. Explore, experience and find those places you love! 1 Star = Poor 2 Stars = Fair 3 Stars = OK 4 Stars = Good 5 Stars = Great

Not bad Mo’ Beef. I don’t think my sandwich was dipped long enough but thats just preference. The fried green beans were awesome!

I’ve been back multiple times(what can I say, close proximity to work with the food not being terrible = viable lunch option), and I can’t really elevate my review beyond my initial expectations. The hangover was good, but the egg was over hard. UGH. I would’ve expected over medium for something like that; I didn’t know I was going to have to ask for eggy goodness to actually represent itself as eggy goodness(I’m looking at you, runny yolk) on a sandwich that lends itself to needing eggy goodness. That being said, the ham and croissant were both good. Their polenta is bland, I’m sad to admit(as that’s one of the items I was most excited about noshing on). And their italian beef, although good for springfield, just doesn’t live up to my Chicago expectations. It’s not even close. Despite all my negatives, I must say I appreciate the variety on the menu and will find myself returning at other times during lunch(perhaps to try soup or a salad or to ask for a hangover with an over-medium egg). We’ll see. Be sure to check this place out, but if you’ve been to Johnnie’s or Al’s, it’s just not the same.

It pains me to say this, but I was crazy disappointed with Mo Beef tonight. I came in shortly before their closing time to order my favorite, the Caprese(mozzarella, tomato and pesto salad) but there was no mozzarella left. Bummer, man! This is not the first time I’ve tried to order something that there is nothing left of here. That being said, maybe more stock can be compromised so the good stuff isn’t gone by the end of the day. As an alternative to the Caprese, I ordered the house salad and my favorite fried green beans to-go. My fried green beans were pretty near burned, which took all the flavor away completely and left my tummy feeling heavy. The salad was alright(I like their house vinaigrette) with fresh spinach, tomatoes and cucumber, but was otherwise simply lacking. Some cheese and pepper would have spruced it up a little. To be fair, it was New Years Eve and near closing time, like I said. But the least convenient times are the best opportunities to give people a special or consistently awesome experience. I’ll give Mo Beef the benefit of the doubt probably forever, but I have to admit tonight was a bit of a deterrent.

Being from Chicago I love a good Italian Beef! I was pleasantly surprised. The beef was marinated just right, PLUS they DIP the beef. The bread was fresh. I added cheese and hot peppers. Yummy! The onion rings were fresh and the batter was awesome! Overall 100% satisfied! I will be back.

It pains me to give this place a so-so review, because i was so excited to try it. If you are from Chicago and you are expecting a Chicago-style italian beef, prepare for disappointment. They don’t even put giardiniera on the sandwiches. However, if you have never tried a real italian beef, then you might like it.

If you’re gluten-free, go for the Italian sausage and polenta. Grilled sweet peppers with corncakes and spicy sausage. All for five bucks. Not a bad way to diet.

A treasure. Don’t let the road construction at Walnut & Campbell scare you off. You’ll miss the best Italian style beef sandwich in this state and any surrounding it. This place beats most of the sandwich places I’ve been to in Chicago as well. Now my mouth is watering.
