BETTER than EVER! Accept no substitutes. The grocery store variety just doesn’t cut it after having Navarre’s king cake.

After telling my sister-in-law, who lives in Hammond, about how a guy I work with was raving about these king cakes, she surprised me with one. I was thrilled to get it, but somewhat disappointed in the cake itself. It was the plain cinnamon, with no filling and I found it to be very dry and in need of more cinnamon. The icing was very light and fluffy, almost whipped, but not good enough to make up for the dryness of the cake. Maybe the filled ones are better, but I really do not need to try another one.

Hands down, the most awesome King Cake ever created! Fresh, moist, and packed with the filling of your choice. They make them right in front of your eyes at the bakery, starting with the yeast. My favorites are the Chocolate and cream cheese, the bavarian cream, and praline. Others in my group swear by the fruit filled, strawberry, blueberry, apple, etc. Hometown bakeries like this are far and few between. The owner, Ernie, and his entire staff are great. Get used to the lingo, «sugar, sweety, baby, honey,» and that is just the way we like to be treated when we come in. They are truly glad for our business. Good coffee, and a decent breakfast. Plus, free WIFI! A tradition for our Mardi Gras group to stop in and load up on the King Cakes to take back to Chicago. Worth the drive no matter how far!

This was the biggest disappointment of a king cake I have ever tried. It was nothing more than an oversized dry donut, very bland. I can’t tell you how many people have raved over them, but I wouldn’t waste my money there. I know king cakes, and this doesn’t even come close to a true New Orleans king cake. Save your money and buy one from somewhere else.
