I was in the South Limestone store on Tuesday around 8pm and the 2 sales ladies and a customer were talking very badly about physical traits of customers. They felt like it was a chore to wait on us.

Springfied, Ohio. I love the chocolate covered crème filled donuts. I have never gotten anything I didn’t like. My daughter who lives out of town stops in at Schuler’s as soon as she gets in Springfield.

Had the whole wheat donut recently and it was gummy in texture. I couldn’t finish it. Their quality has diminished over the years.

The pumpkin cookies are really good. The service and store itself is nothing worth remembering. I am taking some stuff back to Chicago, and I can’t wait to share it!

My friend brought me here since he lives nearby and told me that the donuts here are pretty famous in Springfield. I was pretty surprised by the sheer size of the store, since the place is huge but there’s only bakery displays around the perimeter of the restaurant while the middle is completely empty. I got two donuts, a cream-filled and a buckeye. I liked the cream-filled, but the buckeye was too rich for me with all of the peanut butter icing inside. There’s also a strange aftertaste in the dough that made me feel like it wasn’t too fresh, and I’m not sure if it’s actually true or if it was just me going crazy from the ridiculous sugar rush.

The store appearance is laughable. They moved and got a bigger store, for what? The inside looks like a sterile hospital featuring a counter, few cases and a few long tables scattered with overpriced boxes of cookies. I will never EVER go here EVER again! Employees are straight up RUDE and disrespectful! Expect to be given dirty looks and to be completely ignored, even when you’re the only person in the place! I usually like to give someone the benefit of the doubt, like maybe they are having a bad day. But how could I when there was an older gentleman before me who was taken care of very promptly and was given smiles and all. That all stopped once he walked out the door and it was my turn. I don’t know how Schuler’s manages to stay in business treating their customers the way they do. They aren’t THAT good! I’ll keep my dignity, and they can keep their freaking cookies!

Hit or miss really. As a life long Springfied resident, this place WAS the best in the land. However, they seem to really have gone downhill with most of their treats. All our holiday cakes were bought here up until a few years ago as they are NOT worth the money any longer. They do have some nice pastries, just get there early so they are fresh. All in all just average, uninspired food.

This is really hit or miss. The management of this place needs to be more pro-active and get rid of stale product or put it on sale as day old. I’ve had some delicious items that were fresh and others that were so stale we threw them out. I hope the management reads Unilocal because I am seriously missing my Columbus bakeries.

4 words: Chocolate Cream Filled Donuts — Uh Mah Gooooodnessssss! Schuler’s is a Springfield tradition and staple. If you grow up in Springfield you’ve consumed dozens and dozens of their cookies and donuts guaranteed. Schuler’s is a family run bakery with 2 locations. I must admit I miss the tiny Mitchell Rd. store, but hell regardless of the location, the sweets are damn good. Their chocolate cream filled donuts are our favorite. We’re also partial to their glazed, butterfly & chocolate chip cookies and iced pumpkin cookies. This is sugar induced coma at it’s finest. Schuler’s is the type of place that every out of towner gets taken to while they’re visiting, where every local that has moved away stops first thing when they get back and where locals that live out of town beg their family to bring them when they come to visit. This stuff is addicting. Their donuts are really light and fluffy with tons of great glazes and toppings. They are hearty donuts too, nothing whimpy and small. Be sure you have a big glass of ice cold milk, cause you’re gonna need it upon eating a goodie at Schuler’s. Schuler’s reminds me of my childhood. Waking up on the weekends and excited to see the big white box with blue lettering on the table. SCHULER’S…If you’re passing through town it’s definitely worth a stop to get a taste for yourself of the yummy goodness Schuler’s has to offer. And don’t go a blaming me when you get addicted and gain 10 pounds from your multiple visits, just call me up and we’ll go donut diving together. MMmmm Mmmmm Mmmmm

Sorry. I am not a fan. Apparently, Schuler’s Bakery is a favorite amongst locals. They have 2 locations; the main bakery on Main Street and the new one on Derr Street to replace their old Mitchell Street location. This particular location opened sometime in April. We recently visited Springfield, Ohio in order to throw a birthday party for my Mum-in-law. I needed to order a cake to feed at minimum 50. My In-laws recommended/requested Schuler’s Bakery. Although the bakery is fairly new, it looked tired and old to me. There are a few tables set to the side for those who wanted to enjoy their baked goods and a cup of coffee in the store. They have glass displays of cakes, cookies, tarts, and a fairly large donut display behind the counter. The center of the store were 2 long tables of marked down day old baked goods. Sadly, I was not impressed. Their displays were unimaginative and their cakes and decorations were hideous and uninspired. I did not find the staff particularly helpful or friendly. In ordering the cake, I could hear a toilet flush in my mind. There really wasn’t much in terms of options. We were given a choice of yellow, chocolate, or marble cake. Fruit filling? Forget about it. You have to order those a week in advance. We could order a cake from a book, but those could only be picked up at their other location, and I was already feeling terse and aggravated because I did not have free will as I had to answer to those who were with me. Frosting. I was given a choice of white or chocolate. There were no options of cream cheese, whipped cream or even butter cream. In terms of decoration, there was no help there either. I felt as if I was putting them out when I asked what those options were. My mum — in– law asked for roses and Happy … in pastel colors. We also ordered a 6″ inch cake for someone who was also celebrating their birthday that day. Yay and whoopee do. It only featured a contrasting trim and some confetti sprinkles. The total of both cakes was around $ 45. We also ordered a spider cookie and 6 wheat glazed donuts. I was chastised for not buying the day old. Donuts were not as great as everyone raves them to be. It tasted like Entemann’s to me. The cookie? All I can say is that when a kid takes one bite and immediately spits it out, it can not be good. My son said that it was bitter. The day of pick up was a nightmare. We are not from Springfield, so we aren’t familiar with the area. It was our task to pick up the cake and we were not given the address. I was not worried as I knew that there were only 2 locations, and I had my trusty I-phone. Google maps sent us to the Mitchell address as the Derr Road location had not been added. We drove all the way there only to learn the new address. I threw a fit when I arrived to pick up the cakes. Why? Because you could not read what the cake said. It was completely faded! I asked the cashier, «What’s this? Why is it faded?». She told me that they may have left the cake under the heat lamps too long. Are you F-ing kidding me? I asked her, «Would you pay for a cake that looked like this? This is totally unacceptable. I want it fixed». What kind of a bakery would send out a cake that looked like that? They knew full well that it was not right and yet they presented it to their customer anyways. No apology was offered. The fix ended up looking like 3 layers rewritten. Not pretty. I was also under the impression that I was ordering a 2 layer cake. I had ordered yellow and chocolate. Why else would I have asked about fillings? Instead they gave me a sad half sheet that was ¼ sheet yellow and ¼ sheet chocolate that was glued together with white frosting. I could have made a better looking cake myself. As a side note, they do not offer disposable cake servers nor offer them for sale as most bakeries that I have ordered cakes from do. The cake fell apart as I tried to serve it. It was hideous. If you are ever in the Springfield area, I would recommend skipping this place and ordering straight from Meijer or Krogers. At least there you know exactly what you will be getting and given more options.
